    Most the people I know who drive land cruisers have never driven them off-road in their entire life of owning the vehicles. The Tank 500 definitely looks like a luxury car in the same leagues as the land cruiser for half the price.

      That's a good point mate. TLK 300 drivers are mostly either business owners, or wealthy retirees who simply grew up knowing that Toyota is the way to go and now that they need to haul their caravan around Australia - what can be better, if you have $150k loose change? 🤷‍♀️🙄 (yes, I'm openly jealous, but that's beside the point). Tank 500 should be diesel, otherwise, it's a great vehicle.

      @@ValueCarsAU Diesel? Out dated technology. Who whats a diesel? GWM is not mad. They have never had a diesel engine. The PHEV version is MUCH MUCH better than this HEV one. The HEV version is not available in China, why? too outdated to be sold.

    When looking at the T300 and the T500 we were persuaded considerably by having a better step height on the T500. We are in our mid sixties with hip and knee issues and having a vehicle that is easy to get into, is worth the extra spend. There is no comparing the two vehicles - chalk and cheese.

    • @ValueCarsAU
      @ValueCarsAU  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm actually changed my mind on the step matter - as my latest video shows - and I agree with you. If you have a little more cash to put towards a T500 with a step, it's absolutely worth it in your situation.

    The soft closing door is one of the most appreciated feature by the chinese customers. I allow you to close the door without getting dirty with you cloth. The massage, heating and ventilation are almost standard for all chinese cars over $70,000.

    Sound system matters to me. Diff lock matters. Side step and massage seat is a bonus to me I would enjoy but not a big deal. I will see both of the models in the flesh and then wait to drive the new Prado too and most likely end up buying one of them. I find the Tank 500 exterior pretty ugly but love the inside, the features and the value.

      Hey mate, I'm sure all this fluff + diff lock (real thing, sure) matters to a lot of people, statistically, otherwise they wouldn't be selling this model. I'm happy for you that you have some extra loose change to put towards added features as at the end of the day - money talks. You have it? You spend it.

    I am not sure if the “soft closing tailgate” means electric suction door. I have also watched car review videos in mainland China. They said electric suction doors on each version. I have also checked the specs on Thailand GWM website. Electric suction door function also exists on base version. However, GWM Australia does not mention this function on their websites.

    I’m not sure if the lux includes the panoramic sunroof either, or electronic retractable 3rd row seats. I think there are other features also from watching tank 500 videos in Thailand who are the makers of the Australian version, I’m pretty sure. In all I think GWM Australia have not listed all the features or they still don’t know themselves 😂, or I’m just trying to justify the reason why I ordered the ultra. Always enjoying your videos Dimitri

    Dimitri, do you think paying the extra $7K may translate to a better resale? If they are very off road capable and are half the price of a landcruiser then surely buyers in the 2nd hand market would like those extras as I assume the depreciation would fairly significant so even more attractive for the 2nd hand buyers? Thoughts

    • @ValueCarsAU
      @ValueCarsAU  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good question mate, but I honestly don't think so. Perceived value is what it is on the market, and having an extra massage or a side-step wouldn't bump resale value by much - certainly not by 10% of the vehicle cost (or at least I don't think so...)

  • @nostradamus2642
    @nostradamus2642 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Totally worth it. I'll be placing an order for the Ultra. A Russian reviewer made the point the Tank 500 backseat is industry leading and far more comfortable than Lexus and Range Rover. The retractable side steps is a premium touch. I wish they offer 21 inch wheels as an option.

    • @ValueCarsAU
      @ValueCarsAU  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Like I said, it all depends on 2 factors - how much cash you have to throw at it, and if you need those extra features, e.g. seat comfort. To some it's worth extra 10% of the car value, plus, they have the money. In that case - why the hell not?

    Like all the earlier comments; the Tank 500 misses the mark with such a piddly powertrain. If they can sell it in the Gulf, as mentioned below, with a decent powertrain, they could do it in Oz as well. People would definitely consider it then.
    Maybe the issue is trying to get foreign buyers used to the underpowered options so they are ahead of the game with regards to fuel efficiency regulations. It won't work. A secondhand V8 Landcruiser will run rings around a 2 litre Tank 500 for not a huge amount of extra money. Plus value retention on Landcruiser is second to none.
    This situation reminds me of (and only older viewers will remember!) when GMH launched the bargain bin VC Commodore with the Starfire 4 engine. Just like the UC Torana 4cyl beforehand this car was hopeless compared to the other decently powered, more expensive, Commodores and no one bought them. GMH had the sense to use, possibly the greatest motor ever, the Nissan 3.0l from the Skyline in the VL Commodore and that was a great car. The Skyline was even better, I loved my GTS back in the day....
    So the takeaway is that the Tank 500 may be great value but if GWM later decides to bring in a decently powered version, which it seems exists, then anyone who buys the early 2 litre versions will be stuck with it for life because of the zero resale value. I hope no one buys them which forces GWM to bring in the GCC spec vehicle. Now that will be something special.

    • @ValueCarsAU
      @ValueCarsAU  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree that they've missed out on giving us a V6 and/or a Diesel. I disagree that an ancient V8 Landcruiser with a ton of kms on the clock would be better than a baseline Tank 500 (for most city dwellers). I think Tank 500 will be mega popular, in a similar segment but among its own - growing, if we look at the sales numbers - crowd.
