Yves, another brilliant video and sad 😢 to see that you were scammed. But what sets you apart from most European vloggers is your idealistic approach to life. When exploring different places, you genuinely connect with the local people, steering clear of a superficial feel-good mentality.
In Nairobi, you not only explored its positive aspects but also delved into its less explored facets-an admirable approach that highlights Nairobi's multifaceted nature.
Moreover, your historical insights shed light on the roots of contemporary global south problems, revealing their colonial origins. For instance, the presence of Nubians in Kenya can be traced back to colonial beliefs in Hamitic theories, asserting that valuable aspects in Africa were introduced by the Hamites, considered a branch of the Caucasian race on the continent.
The British, following a strategy of racial and ethnic segregation, implemented a "divide and rule" perspective, allocating leadership positions and roles based on ethnicity. Nubians, Kemet, as well as present-day Somalis, Ethiopians, and Kenyans of the Swahili Coast, were favored over other black communities, following Indians and Whites in the hierarchy.
The influx of Indians and Nubians, brought in as indentured laborers for trains and policing/military roles respectively, shaped the demographic landscape. Consequently, areas like Parklands became home to many Indians, Eastleigh to the Somali community, and Majengo to Swahili Coast people.
