  • I Drove By My Former Clients Home & Knew Something Was Wrong...
    BACKSTORY:
While on my way to fix the little red edging at Luke's house that everybody called me out on in last weeks video, I decided to take a different road to his house. I'm not sure why I decided to take this way, but now I know why I did. Why? Well because this road lead directly past one of my former clients homes. As I drove by that home, what I saw nearly broke my heart...
This client was my customer last year. I performed my lawn care service on a weekly basis, that included mowing, trimming, edging, and blowing. It was right around $45 per visit. We made the yard look pristine. However, due to financial reasons, the client made the decision to cancel our services. Service was going to be done by either her or a family member. Cancellations do not bother me whatsoever. I too have cancelled on many service providers before, and in the lawn care business, cancellations are expected.
Jumping backward to last week while driving by the house, I took a quick glance and turned my head back onto the road. But then the thought hit me, the yard was A MESS! What did I just see? I quickly turned around and parked my truck on the other side of the street. I couldn't believe the yard had gotten away like that. Weeds were growing on the street curb, weeds were growing a foot high in the lawn, seemed like nothing was being done to the lawn for quite some time. As mowing season was quickly fading away, I knew I had to act fast. So I gave her a call...
I left a message stating that I would be happy to come by the next day with my equipment and mow her lawn for free to finish off the season. She called back later that day and was SHOCKED that I had made that kind of offer. She told me that she had been dealing with the sickness that has been going around for awhile and that it has been hard finding someone to come out and help maintain the yard. She said that the help she received made her lawn look worse (this year of course, not last year when we mowed). I said I will be there first thing in the morning. She kindly offered to pay me but I said I offered to mow it at no charge first. Of course, she still said I will leave a tip in the mailbox for you :)
    God bless you!

I was thinking that some businesses need to get together for those that are in need. Perhaps the landscaper knows a painter who knows a pressure washer who knows others. When a house in need is found, the call can go out for help from the others. 1 hour per week or month can really help someone in need. But the scout comment in here is great too.

Can I just say how much I appreciate the fact that you actually bag and carry out all the clippings! That's my least favorite part of lawn care is repeatedly emptying that bag. So many channels have guys doing a lot of free work which is a blessing but I just grit my teeth when they just repeatedly go over yards on riding mowers to "mulch" all the debris. It may eventually work it's way back into the soil and I understand that there are time constraints but close up it does NOT look groomed and from experience I know so many of those clippings are going to get tracked into the house! So thanks for the extra care you put into your excellent work!! God bless you for helping out these residents and the joy it brings their neighbors!!

I will tell you the same thing my sweet Father-in-love said to me when I mowed his large lawn using a grass catcher: Thank you darlin' for helping me out. First time in living here for 50 years that the lawn has looked this great. He had never used a catcher. You rock! Oh, and Hello from Texas.

straightening that red brick was not about making me happy it is about attention to detail... my gardener missed something the first week, then missed it AND another thing the second week, I left a note for him on week three and he ignored the note... there was no week 4 , the next gardener I caught using his weed whacker to "mow" the entire yard, yeah that only killed a few areas... finding a gardener that actually cares about what they do is pretty much impossible... that's why I left the comment... happy to see that you made the effort, thumbs up from me.... gardener and slug relocation specialist, ok I subscribed
