It is so refreshing to hear someone suggest to add food. I get so sick of hearing the ole well I can always fish or eat plants. Hello what if it's the wrong season. And I don't know about you but I dont always catch fish when I go fishing for fun. Let alone relying on it. You need to be in good enough shape that you can think clearly to effect self rescue. You can't do that if your hungry.
Exactly! I have been hunting and fishing all my life and many times come home empty handed. Just because you hunt or fish or plan on gathering plants, does not mean you will be able to obtain them. Many times you will not, either weather is bad, timing is wrong, too much noise or shadow or scent, etc. Many factors go into hunting and fishing and no one scores game each and every time they go out. Carrying some food with you is just plain common sense. Thanks for watching!
Nice kit. I can picture using it on a scout. It might be a little bit hard for me to get used to wearing with a full sized back pack. An assault pack would probably work.
Thank you for the quick response! Please keep up the great work that you do. As I said before, I am a recent subscriber and totally enjoy your no nonsense approach to survival!
Great kit mate, food is always a great idea, I always have food in my survival bags and packs. For the same reason you say, plus I can't go without food for longer then a day without wanting to punch something, I need to eat or I get very grumpy. Nice man
Same here- Hangry! Most people do need to eat, even if it is just a snack, otherwise they do get grumpy & angry, their blood sugar drops, then they don't think clearly or make good decisions. (And some people are diabetic or hypoglycemic or have to take special medications WITH food...lots of medical conditions out there). Yes, you can go without food if you needed to, but why push it if in a survival situation? You will need some calories to go out looking for more food/hunting/fishing/etc. Having a few items in a pack that stays around your waist (in case you are separated from your main backpack/BOB) as well as extra gear is always better than being stranded with nothing. Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching!
Great video and kit my friend. Add a very small, collapsable stove and I'm set. Thanks for a very well thought out piece of kit I might add--I would expect nothing less from you.
Should have links to our website both in the iCards bubbles, at the end credits, and on the TH-cam page itself. schoolofselfreliance.wix.com/schoolofselfreliance
That is a kick ass kit! I really like it but the only thing I didn't see was a spork or some kind of eating utensil. Not a biggie for me I could look past that. keep up the good work. you do a great job!
I like this kit alot i would add more food because im a beliver that if im hikking for a day i should have enough for two days and if i get lost on average i should be found in 2-3 days and practicing my skills so i can figure out hoe to get more food
liked your video a lot! Instant sub 😀 I remember being told about 10 years ago that most accidents happen when the hiker is more than 200 yards from their main pack. So this advice is perfectly placed. I'm surprised that there is an assumption that nothing is being carried in the pockets or trouser belt, cos I think most of us carry an fak spork whistle and compass on our person at all times in the field. Keep up the great work brother. G
I would hope people carry items in their pockets (hikers are better at it because they go out for multiple days at a time), but I know lots of fishermen and hunters who don't because they think they are only going out for a few hours or 1 day and then end up in trouble. If this pack is kept around the waist at all times, then you will always have basic survival gear until help arrives or you walk out. Thanks for subbing! Share our videos and check back weekly as we get more videos up! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching and commenting! The pack is a VooDoo Tactical 3-way Deployment Bag and the belt is a padded VooDoo Tactical belt adapted for use with this pack. A Condor Battle Belt would also work just as well.
As its been said in our bug out bag videos, signaling devices are up to each person. Some people do not want to be found. Some situations you will not want to be found. Not every situation is a "lost in the woods" scenario. You could use the tins in the kit to signal with. Don't need a mirror to do that. There is room to add that if you wish.
damn that means I got some type of mini-bag :( I'll look for the correct size soon. What are the approximate dimensions of the one in the video? At there 5 molle attachents on the other side?
There are 2 sizes of that bag sold- Condor makes one size (smaller) and VooDoo Tactical makes it in 2 sizes (regular and enlarged). It is a 3-way deployment bag. I have the enlarged one from VooDoo, sorry about earlier. I consider it a normal size compared to smaller packs out there. Yes, I have 5 molle attachments on the back side.
OK that makes a lot more sense now. Mine is definitely the smaller one so I was having a hard time wrapping my head around the amount of gear in there and the size perspective from the video
Great site.Love your no BS attitude. very refreshing. Please do a soundcheck before your shoot your next video.Sound quality on all of them very poor. You obviously like you booze.LOL
I don't think there is such s thing as "the ultimate survival kit... There are too many variables to make that claim. Examples: why are you in the situation? Want rescue or escape/evade? Stationary vs mobile? Alone or group? Bring supplies or forage? Etc......
I think you have mistaken this video for a Bug Out Bag or loaded backpack. This kit is designed to be the very basic gear you would need in a survival situation that you can keep around your waist should you be separated from your backpack or BOB. You will have more gear (more specialized/specific gear) in your backpack or BOB for the situation you are in, but what is in this kit is the bare necessities, so to speak. Too many people set down their backpack to go gather firewood, or to go set traps, or go fishing/hunting, and then either get lost in the woods, or lose their pack (kayak/canoe turned over, fell off a mountain, etc), but having this small kit around your waist at all times prevents you from being without ANY gear in the woods should you lose your backpack. I believe I said all this in the video if you re-watch it and listen.
SchoolOf SelfReliance Gotcha... I am a Christian and my gear/prep plans are designed more as an INCH bag where should I be caught in the 7 year Tribulation period I want to disappear and never found. But yes, everyone ought to have the basics: water, shelter, fire, food (or food procurement), and a cutting tool. I also add navigation to the list of essentials. I built my BOBs around that main core then added specifics to for the when, where, what, why and how of bugging out. One must prep even in the situation of survival. Count steps and direction of travel and make a map from base camp to resources. Or make a marked trail to follow back. Like my grandpa said, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"
Great kit Mike. You're no nonsense approach is spot on.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Remarkable. A kit that highlights the shelter component; quite rare. Very good job.

Nice kit and it looks like their might be enough room for a poncho and perhaps a thin light weight jacket.
Thank you for the quick response!

There is room to add a small stove to the bag if you want to. Thanks for commenting and watching

Thanks for watching and commenting! The pack is a VooDoo Tactical 3-way Deployment Bag and the belt is a padded VooDoo Tactical belt adapted for use with this pack. A Condor Battle Belt would also work just as well.
That is a good looking kit!
what about a signal mirror or whistle this is a great kit but theres nothing to signal with to aid u in resuce

Awesome gear
what kind of survival blanket
GI aluminized Casualty Blanket heavy duty with grommets
Not to be confused with the smaller, thinner space blankets. You can find the heavy duty casualty blanket online surplus stores and ebay
either that bag is much larger than the similarly desgned one I have, or he is 4ft tall 100 lbs
The bag is normal design size and I am 6 foot 1 inch, 200lbs.
