I Never Saw It Coming | Ghost Max Review

  • The new Ghost Max from Brooks is an easy shoe to underestimate. It's like they purposely tried not to draw attention to itself. Yet the highly cushioned midsole is surprisingly versatile and smooth through all the paces, even up to your quicker efforts, making this one of the best max cushioned shoes of the year. So don't judge this shoe by its upper. It's what's underneath that'll drive you forward.

    The production value of this review is insane. Very underrated channel

    Great content ! I like the camera angles & still shot of the shoe during foot strike.

    I’ve tried a lot of Brooks. This Ghost Max is going to replace the Glycerin and that’s a wild statement. I pray the Ghost Max doesn’t disappear like the iPhone Mini 🤣

      Max 2 is coming out in October and if you check the Brooks website, Max is one of the Best Sellers. I think it's fair to say the Max line is here to stay. Fingers crossed 🤞

    I love the energy return of the Triumph 20 and 21. How is the energy return?

    • @writeorrun
      @writeorrun  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Initially, I would say that the triumph had more energetic rebound. It actually felt kind of harsh for me as a heel striker. The 21 now feels a lot smoother though than it did at first. I think the higher drop on the triumph also makes it feel slightly more bouncy and so it’s a little better at the faster speeds. That said I think the ghost max turns over my feet a bit smoother. It’s easier to forget about the shoe and enjoy the run than with the triumph. I hope that helps you decide.

    I am on the heavy side (192lbs) and have a pretty bad back. I can only run on the treadmill because actual asphalt destroys me. Would these shoes be good for my 2-3 mile runs or should I be looking for something else? Thanks!

      @writeorrun  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t think that’s too heavy, btw. This foam is on the denser side so it’s more responsive, which might aggravate your back. Since I don’t know what shoe you’re using now it’s hard to compare. But if I wanted something softer I’d also consider something with a bit of stability to balance it out. Of course, I’m no doctor of any sort. That said, I have turned to the Ghost Max when I needed a little sorting out after a long run. Definitely check out a store that lets you return the shoe no questions asked, like a Running Warehouse. Btw, they don’t pay me to plug them. Let me know which way you go! I know having a sensitive back can be annoying.

      So I am coming from Hoka Bondi 7s, which I enjoyed but it was time for new shoes. I bought the Ghost Max 2, took them home and got on the treadmill. Wasn't please with the shoe. They felt much better in the store. I returned them and got the NB 1080- V13. More plush and they feel lighter. I enjoyed the rocker feeling of the Ghost Max but I needed more cushion then I had anticipated. Thanks for your review and replay!@@writeorrun

    What's you take on using it for an ultra marathon, how do you think it will perform?

    • @writeorrun
      @writeorrun  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it depends on the terrain and your physical condition. If the course is relatively flat and on a road surface I think they would be fine to use. My feet were a little sore on my really long runs but for me that’s only 10+ miles, way short of an ultra. But I think they would be sore using most shoes until I’m able to build up the physical strength to handle higher mileage. If you’re able to do ultras I think that won’t be much of an issue for you.

    Great Video!
    I never liked the regular ghost, its a dull, boring shoe that really shows its age and lack of Innovation. Especially the loft v2 is a very outdated foam, similiar to Nikes cushlon (they tried to keep it also too long)
    By no means the ghost is a bad shoe its a very stable and durable daily trainer for heel strikers.
    So in my opinions with the ghost max they did what they should have done with the regular ghost years ago. This is how the ghost should be. Just dont like the loft v2, they maybe should use the v2 and v3 in combination like many other Brands do.

      You make a good point. I think they will have to move onto Loft v3 eventually and then even beyond that if they want to stay competitive.

    Same sizing as Triumph?

    • @writeorrun
      @writeorrun  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. Both brands fit true to size for me.

    So, go buy you some mesh with probably no warranty for $100++
    One sharp rock or even nail. There goes your day lol. Oh, to add to it. The shoe isn't even waterproof.

      What are you even talking about? Are you running in worker boots with steel soles?
      Who needs a waterproof shoe? Or one that can survive a nail? Is the comment supposed to be a joke?

      They're pretty much perfect for me. I once tried running in an NB "Fresh Foam X 840". My feet never hurt more after a run than in those marshmallows.

    Only granpas like this expensive outdated shoes. Their price is the same as higher stack TPEE or even PEBA foam shoes and yet here they are pricing 160$ on an EVA with 26mm of stack. EVA was first used in shoes by brooks in 1975. and they are still using EVA in 2023 and pricing they same as other companies with PEBA or TPEE shoes with higher stack.

    • @writeorrun
      @writeorrun  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I guess I have grandpa qualities. lol. I understand your point. The newer foams are better in general. But I think they did a good job incorporating a decent rocker design to get the most out of the EVA. I’m looking forward to trying their new Hyperion models coming out in 2024. The nitrogen infused midsoles look promising.

      @Frichilsasta08 I think they might have been referring to the regular ghost. I wasn’t completely sure
