The designations in Italy are NOT absolute synonymous with quality because they have too broad parameters. Follow your palate or get advice from an honest connoisseur, the wine legislation in Italy was made to facilitate the great wine producers not for consumers.

Absolutely love Barbera. We never drink an American wine over it, especially if you’re eating anything.
Please do yourself a favor drink Barbera with meatballs and manicotti even and everything bagel with cream cheese is an excellent pairing

My wife and I occasionally drink American Barberas, but today we'll being shopping for Italian Barberas, marked DOC, DOP and DOCG!

If you like spicy notes go with the California Barbara. Very good.The gold country in Northern California and Lodi area are known for Barbara.
