Great information Pan, love your technique with applying and removing the wax. Just like you said a lot of people try to put too much on and it is very difficult to remove once it drys! Great advice about not waxing in the sun or on a warm panel. Keep up the great videos Pan.
Thanks! Yup, as much as I love ceramic coatings, some people don’t want the added complexity or the extra time needed to coat a car, so a nice coat of wax is perfect for them.
So I used a bunch of your suggestions and recommended products... I bought the soap the IPA prep the paint sealant and the liquid wax! I spent quite a few hours working on my 2018 M550i! You got me at 7:02. I just put a paste wax by hand on my car and it was awful. Very streaky. I put it on too thick! And I started wiping it before it was fully dry. I have waxed many cars in my life when I was younger, but I made a big Boo Boo today.

Thank you for taking time to talk about wax. I know the trend is more for ceramic coatings, but traditional wax and sealants aare great options, too. I like Meguiars Ultimate and plan to try Finish Kare this summer.
Thanks! Yes this was the objective. I love ceramic coatings, but for some people, it's a bit too complicated and takes more time. So I thought I'd share the basics of paint protection: a great coat of wax. :). Perfect for quickly protecting the paint against the elements, getting a couple of months of protection, great beading and great shine.

You are AWESOME ! I am sooooooooooooooo intimidated by all of the products and tools. Two quick questions: what is the difference between waxing your car and polishing it? Also, I bought a DA to remove the wax. I must put too much on and it was extremely difficult to remove it so I thought the DA "buffs" the wax.
Polishing the paint if removing defects such as scratches and swirls, remove oxidation, and restore depth and gloss to the paintwork. That’s why they call polishing “paint correction” because you correct paint. In polishing, they have two categories: compounds and polishes. Compounds are for bigger and deeper scratches and polishes are the finishing stages of paint correction to improve clarity and gloss. Once you’re done polishing, you now have to protect the paintwork by using your choice of a wax, paint sealant or ceramic coating. Remove waxes by hand buffing, not machine polishing. If you find it hard to remove, you’re either putting way too much wax on or using a cheap wax. I hope that answers your questions.
That is a Rupes LHR15 MKII polisher, high end, more for professional use. For beginners, here is one that I recommend: amzn.to/38c9Rx5 Also, here is my tutorial for paint polishing for beginners: th-cam.com/video/X2qjO5xZZ2E/w-d-xo.html
Perfect timing on the new video pan, we actually have sunshine this week here in the UK. Great tip as well for applying a sealant to the paint before giving it a coat of wax. Wouldn’t have given it any thought. It’s normally cleaned, glazed and then sealed and that’s my lot. Going to give your tip a try tomorrow and wax it after I have got some sealant down. 👍
Very informative and knowledge video Pan. Some wax can be remove right after you apply it and you got to be careful because some can stain plastic trim so tape it. Also some wax are call cleaner wax which they can remove scratch.
Thanks for instructive film and great channel! I'm a beginner in this field but have been using the Simoniz carnauba wax for some time. This has been very hard work, so i wonder, do you know this wax, and if so, do you suggest the same procedure for this as in the video? Or, could the Simoniz be harder than other waxes, so that application requires more attention to moisture, or temperature for example?
Simoniz isn’t that good. For a better experience, more gloss and ease of application, watch my favourite sealant/wax combo video here: th-cam.com/video/ZtILoTKSXq8/w-d-xo.html
@@PanTheOrganizer By the way. How do you assess the quality of the products you use. For example, in terms of wax's ability to protect, do you measure this more systematically, or is it general impression over time? In case of Simoniz, i got curious, what makes it not so good? If not covered elsewhere, could how to assess products be a theme for a future video?
@@PanTheOrganizer I've got some swirl marks and minor scratches too... So should I go through Rubbing Compound > Ice sealant or ice sealant > paste wax?
Hey! Great video! Thank you very much for this tutorial, although I have a question. On which parts of a car is it allowed to apply wax? Can I wax windshield, plastic parts, headlights or anything else? Or only on a car's paint? Thank you, have a good day!
Thanks! Typically, you wax painted surfaces only, to avoid residue on plastics or trim. You can certainly apply wax to your headlights and tail lights, it helps protect them against UV rays and that yellowing effect, and some also apply wax to glass surfaces, although glass sealants are better for that task. Question for you: how did you discover my channel?

Pan TheOrganizer Appreciate the fast reply your are the best thanks! So if i am using a regular liquid wax after 2-3 months and the paint is still in good condition I only need to clean and top up the old wax with a fresh layer of wax?
Thanks much Pan, big fan of your videos. I waxed my car and missed a spot when buffing so now I have some hardened wax that won't come off, what can I do to correct that? Compound?
@@PanTheOrganizer it's just that I believe if the surface is unrefined, no protection layer will bond with it. And if at all, then it probably won't even last half the period of time it Should. Am I right or should I learn ?
The better a surface is prepped, the better a protectant will bond to it that’s for sure. In turn, that means better product performance and maximum durability. 👍🏻
When polishing and waxing vehicles, what kind of attention do you give to vinyl stripes and/or decals? Do I tape over them on the edges? Can I just wax over them?
If they are glossy yes, if they are matte/sating I tape them. But these days, people are getting away from waxes and mostly asking for ceramic coatings. You don't have those issues with coatings.
I don’t know about a DA polisher. I know that you can get a soap like chemical guys clean slate or dishwashing soap (anything that isn’t PH neutral) to strip off the wax.
Great video. I have a strange question. My land cruiser 80 series got scuff marks all along one side. Will waxing remove the scuff marks. The paint isnt scratched from what i can tell. Thanks in advance.
Are wax applicator foam pads reusable or do they have to be disposed of after a single use? Mine is pretty saturated in wax so just looking for some tips to clean it or if I should just toss it.
Hi Sabrina. You can use a foam applicator multiple times. What you do is after you are done using it, you can spray a bit of all purpose cleaner on it, work it in with your fingers, and rinse with warm water. There are also pad cleaning sprays you can use, like this one: amzn.to/3rQXOOD Also, I made a video about how I clean my detailing tools and equipment here: th-cam.com/video/6uFdYBqbT2Y/w-d-xo.html
I don’t use rotaries, but I take care of my DA foam pads the same way I do for my microfiber towels and I have a video on that here: th-cam.com/video/kbG3H-EeZ-s/w-d-xo.html
Typically microfiber pads are more aggressive compared to foam waxing pads (which are super soft). So I would recommend that you buy a soft foam pad made for applying liquid waxes and sealants.
😊 I have a black car I really what the breaker to be as glossy as possible what is the best way to make this happen. There are so many options from waxing detail spray quick detail spray wet coat ceramic spray graphene spray, I usually use water sport remover after of you times of rain. Is using wax could be the best option?
Hello sir ! Opinion please , wife’s car has over spray of paint or plaster . I washed car but still there I can remove with my finger nails but I’m sure that’s not the ideal way to remove overspray . Should I wax ?
You should clay the surface with a claybar and clay lubricant. That can remove overspray. Watch my tutorial here: th-cam.com/video/XB8UaTCXuLg/w-d-xo.html
Hi Pan, I found your video when I went looking for help waxing a vehicle. I think I've been applying my liquid wax too thick, because it still looks streaky after I've tried to wipe off the dry wax. Thanks for the info, and thanks for the product suggestions. I hope you can answer some questions: 1. How heavy is the mechanical waxer? Is it hard to hold for long periods of time? 2. Will this work on my fiberglass RV? It's older and not painted like a car. It has peeling decals on aging whitish fiberglass. Would a paint sealant even work on unpainted fiberglass? 3. I've been told I can remove some stains by buffing them out with wax. So far I've not been able to achieve that by hand. Would the mechanical waxer make a difference? 4. Which of your videos covers removing blemishes? Thanks for any help you can give me.
Are there any specialty waxes that is meant for a specific colour? I know there are some for black and white? but are there any waxes meant for other colours like blue / red / yellow? Are these worth it or effective over a wax that's meant for all colours? or just going for high end wax is enough for those gloss?
There are, but I haven't seen any real visual improvements when using color specific waxes. Just get a quality wax from a good brand and you should be golden regardless of paint color. By the way, I made a recent video on the best liquid waxes and sealants here: th-cam.com/video/yuHqg-AbtdI/w-d-xo.html Welcome to my channel. Great informative video, Pan. Thanks. I noticed that you didn't mention any of the Optimum products, neither sealant nor liquid wax. Is it because you think all the other products you mentioned in the video perform better?
Thanks Michael! For the Optimum products, they are great. Their OPT spray wax is very good. I just couldn't possibly name all the waxes I like in this video, that wasn't the goal. I have hundreds and hundreds of different products (if you watch my videos, you know what I mean lol) so I just take a selection for each video. This was more a tutorial on proper application methods. ;)
Of course, I am. Since November 2017, I think. Pan, do you think it would be of interest to many of your subscribers, especially those are less experienced (like myself) to learn how to do paint correction at home with minimal investment? I'm new to this and would like to start taking care of my car by myself, but I'm hesitant to shell out $200+ for a DA polisher in addition to about $150-$200 in washing products that I've already bought.
Yes it would be super. One usually starts with an entry level polisher like a Porter Cable 7424XP or Griot's Garage 6 in DA polisher, Harbor Freight, etc. and you learn the basics well and eventually move up to a big boy Flex 3401 or Rupes LHR15 MK II. Paint can look soooooo much better once properly polished (compound and polish).
The best protection you can actually get is a ceramic coating. Those last for years, instead for a few months like traditional carnauba waxes. Here's my tutorial on applying a ceramic coating: th-cam.com/video/sqQYVjxFqK0/w-d-xo.html Welcome to my channel. Is there anything I can do to renew the color on the hips of my Dodge ram truck they are sunburned , my truck is metal flake black paint. Thank you Sonya
Are the "hips" of your truck in a plastic material? If yes, you need a plastic restoration kit, as it has been oxidized by the UV rays so you need a kit like this: amzn.to/3TKLf4n If the hips are painted, you need to machine polish the vehicle to restore the gloss and shine.
Ok, so please correct me if im wrong....after the washing and cleaning of the car, you... 1. do the decontamination stage 2. compound (if needed) 3. polish 4. then wax right? im always getting polish and wax confused. because polish makes the car shine but so does waxing. Unless polishing brings out the original paint color and the wax just brings it more shiny. can you please help explain it to me if the steps i mentioned was correct or not? Thank you
Yes your steps are right. Wax (like sealants) is a paint PROTECTION product so that always goes on last, to protect all the paint correction and polishing you did.
It depends what wax you applied. You must follow the specific instructions of the wax you bought, as some may have particular instructions. For most waxes though, you apply, wait to see a slight haze and then buff off.
Pan: Is it ok to wax after claying followed by ceramic spray? I'm wondering if the ceramic spray adds anything to the freshly applied wax. Any advice is appreciated. Great video as usual.
Good and informative as always! Just bought meguiars ultimate paste wax and will try it for the first time on my new car this weekend. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Olle!! Just remember to apply a super thin coat and to work in the shade on a cool surface, and you'll love the results. ;) What car do you drive by the way?
Pan TheOrganizer yes will do! Nothing fancy. Just bought a 2018 Skoda Octavia Estate metallic quartz grey for my wife. I drive a Volvo thats a couple of years old! Im more of guy who loves to maintain and clean the cars than spending alot of money on nice cars, as much as I would like to, the family and house has to go first! :)
Yes you can absolutely apply paste or liquid waxes with a dual action polisher, as long as you use a super soft pad (no cutting) and low speed on your polisher (speed 1 or 2). And you would buff off using a microfiber towel.
@@PanTheOrganizer thank you for the response. I watched the video but maybe i missed it, if i use a sealant can i use a paste wax or is it best to only use liquid wax and sealant?

Hi Pan I recently mailed you regarding paint on my car. I used the tar remover and the paint came off. Unfortunately its left rubbing marks. Can you suggest how I remove them? paint correction is my thought and have just purchased a DA polisher and finishing compound.
I don’t really understand your issue and it’s hard to troubleshoot at a distance without seeing the vehicle and knowing exactly what you did, what products you used, etc A tar remover should not remove paint if used properly. What tar remover were you using? Did you follow the instructions on the label? Did you reach out to the company of the product and troubleshoot with them?
@@PanTheOrganizer Hi Pan The tar remover i used removed the road paint which was splattered over the bonnet in 4 places. The car paint is intact but has left rubbing marks after removing the white road paint.
If you rub too hard on paint, of course that will cause scratching and marring. The only way to remove those is by machine polishing. You're in luck, I have a paint correction tutorial for beginners here: th-cam.com/video/ustTEVGMOTI/w-d-xo.html
Hi. I would be very careful using waxes on PPF. Using a PPF specific ceramic coating is a way better option. Here's my tutorial on applying a ceramic coating on PPF: th-cam.com/video/7RCgqdGrvrA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=NlgFCrqWnpwzSdSm And my PPF maintenance tutorial: th-cam.com/video/I3AszYhWhs4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jI1YewMz4XVKLPjR Here's an explanation by PPF experts at Esoteric Car Care: "Generally we shy away from paste wax on PPF due to possible buildup of reside along seams and edges; cleaning up that residue can be rather tedious. Petroleum-based products (be they in the form of waxes or sealants) should be avoided when caring for PPF as well. Not all waxes and sealants are petroleum based so read the ingredients carefully. While you can indeed use spray waxes & sealants (noting the above caveat) on PPF, ceramic infused sealants and/or true coatings are often the preferred choices."
@@PanTheOrganizer thank for the info and fantastic videos! I’ll stick to the spray protectants for now. I plan on ceramic coating my vehicles if the stars align and the weather is perfect as I don’t have a garage only a portable tent.
My set came with a large soft foam pad and a smaller one. Does it matter which one I use to wax my car. Also my pad doesn’t have those indented ribs it’s just flat is that ok ? Thanks
It can help break those down a bit, but to truly remove them you need a stripping soap (like Purple Power Vehicle and Boat Wash) and a least one step of paint polishing. To know if you have nothing left on your clear coat, run water. If there are no beads, and the water is slow to sheet off, then there is no protection.
is it true that liquid wax are not as concentrated as paste wax comparing 2 of the same brand same model wax just that one is liquid and other is paste.
You’d have to look at the % of carnauba content in each. But paste waxes traditionnaly last a bit longer than their liquid counterparts. But liquid waxes are easier to apply. In the end, it’s a question of personal preference.
If I buy a used car what do I do so I don’t ruin it by mixing products? Also is it okay to compound and polish and wax/sealant and do it again in a few months except with ceramic coating? Thank you in advance

I started to pick up some new pads from Lake Country, and noticed they didn’t have any red finishing pads, but only black finishing pads. I assume they’re the same, and don’t carry the red anymore? I’m looking solely at the CCS pads.
I am not aware that they stopped producing red pads. But upon looking at different sites it seems to be the case. They do say that black pads are ok for wax and sealant application so maybe they changed the foam structure a bit.
@@PanTheOrganizer While I’ve got your attention. Do you ever use pad conditioner on your DA pad for waxing? Or is that a product you only use on your pad when polishing?
@PanTheOrganizer why when I wash my car and put the Turtle seal and shine after a few days the car collects dust? What could I do for the car not to collect dust.
My car is black so I always struggle whenever I have to use any kind of towel. I’ve gone through so many micro fiber towels but it seems like they all leave marks of some kind but I’ve never applied the wax this way so I think I’ll try a liquid wax with the machine and see if it’s any better. Is there a benefit of using a cleaner fluid instead of an ipa solution ?
What kind of cleaner fluid? Paint prep or IPA is what you should be using.
Swissvax prewax cleaner fluid or dodo juice lime prime

Just wondering do you have to clay bar the car everytime you wax the car
No. Only when you feel gritty like contamination on the paintwork. Twice yearly is a good average.

@@PanTheOrganizer it's just that I believe if the surface is unrefined, no protection layer will bond with it. And if at all, then it probably won't even last half the period of time it Should. Am I right or should I learn ?

Is it ok to add a coat of carnuba wax over ceramic?
No
When polishing and waxing vehicles, what kind of attention do you give to vinyl stripes and/or decals? Do I tape over them on the edges? Can I just wax over them?
If they are glossy yes, if they are matte/sating I tape them. But these days, people are getting away from waxes and mostly asking for ceramic coatings. You don't have those issues with coatings.
@@PanTheOrganizer So if I did a ceramic coating, I would just coat over my stripes?
Can I apply a paste wax first and then a spray wax?
Yes

On a new car, a leather coating.
Hey Pan, can i sue a DA Polisher Machine to remove the wax? if so, what pad should i use for removing the wax? thanks
I don’t know about a DA polisher. I know that you can get a soap like chemical guys clean slate or dishwashing soap (anything that isn’t PH neutral) to strip off the wax.

Did I miss when to reapply wax to the red soft pad on the polisher or does the 'X' wax pattern last for the entire car?
You have to reapply after every section when you feel you need to add more.
There are also pad cleaning sprays you can use, like this one: amzn.to/3rQXOOD
Also, I made a video about how I clean my detailing tools and equipment here: th-cam.com/video/6uFdYBqbT2Y/w-d-xo.html
Do you have a video on how to care for (wash) rotary foam pads or hand applicator pads after use?
I don’t use rotaries, but I take care of my DA foam pads the same way I do for my microfiber towels and I have a video on that here: th-cam.com/video/kbG3H-EeZ-s/w-d-xo.html
Pan TheOrganizer thanks Pan. I'm not familiar with the term DA. Is that the same as a random orbital device?
can I use a microfiber applicator on my DA to apply wax? I don't have a foam pad handy
Typically microfiber pads are more aggressive compared to foam waxing pads (which are super soft). So I would recommend that you buy a soft foam pad made for applying liquid waxes and sealants.

I hope you can answer some questions:

Can I use a ceramic spray after a paste carnuba wax or vs vs or don’t use the two together ?
It's recommended to not mix regular waxes/sealants with ceramic based products. Their chemistries won't be compatible.
Ok, so please correct me if im wrong....after the washing and cleaning of the car, you...
1. do the decontamination stage
2. compound (if needed)
3. polish
4. then wax right?
im always getting polish and wax confused. because polish makes the car shine but so does waxing.
So which would be better to use? Wax or a sealant?
Sealant then wax on top.
Exactly.
can Wax be applied on glasses?? (windshield, door glass erc.)
Yes, unless the manufacturer says differently.
Does it matter how long you leave the wax on the paint?
It depends what wax you applied. You must follow the specific instructions of the wax you bought, as some may have particular instructions.
For most waxes though, you apply, wait to see a slight haze and then buff off.
Pan: Is it ok to wax after claying followed by ceramic spray? I'm wondering if the ceramic spray adds anything to the freshly applied wax. Any advice is appreciated. Great video as usual.

Cool video, Pan! Question...Can DA polishers be used to apply paste waxes or should they only be applied by hand?
Yes you can absolutely apply paste or liquid waxes with a dual action polisher, as long as you use a super soft pad (no cutting) and low speed on your polisher (speed 1 or 2). And you would buff off using a microfiber towel.
hello Pan , could you make a review in product to add a protection underneath after ice cleaning like Swisswax motor shine . thanks

Hi Pan
I recently mailed you regarding paint on my car. I used the tar remover and the paint came off. Unfortunately its left rubbing marks. Can you suggest how I remove them? paint correction is my thought and have just purchased a DA polisher and finishing compound.
I don’t really understand your issue and it’s hard to troubleshoot at a distance without seeing the vehicle and knowing exactly what you did, what products you used, etc
A tar remover should not remove paint if used properly. What tar remover were you using? Did you follow the instructions on the label? Did you reach out to the company of the product and troubleshoot with them?
@@PanTheOrganizer Hi Pan
The tar remover i used removed the road paint which was splattered over the bonnet in 4 places.

Pan, any recommendations for waxing a car with PPF to avoid that white line at the seam? Or is there an easy method to remove that white line?
Hi. I would be very careful using waxes on PPF. Using a PPF specific ceramic coating is a way better option.
Here's my tutorial on applying a ceramic coating on PPF: th-cam.com/video/7RCgqdGrvrA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=NlgFCrqWnpwzSdSm
And my PPF maintenance tutorial: th-cam.com/video/I3AszYhWhs4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jI1YewMz4XVKLPjR
Here's an explanation by PPF experts at Esoteric Car Care: "Generally we shy away from paste wax on PPF due to possible buildup of reside along seams and edges; cleaning up that residue can be rather tedious.

It doesn’t matter which one you use. And yes even a flat foam pad is ok.
@@PanTheOrganizer hey that’s awesome thank you so much for the quick reply I appreciate that. Thanks again
Hai Pan, does the Carpro eraser removes earlier applied wax or sealant?
It can help break those down a bit, but to truly remove them you need a stripping soap (like Purple Power Vehicle and Boat Wash) and a least one step of paint polishing.
To know if you have nothing left on your clear coat, run water. If there are no beads, and the water is slow to sheet off, then there is no protection.
@@PanTheOrganizer - thanks Pan
is it true that liquid wax are not as concentrated as paste wax comparing 2 of the same brand same model wax just that one is liquid and other is paste.

Do you recommend any kind of towel? Is the shamwow any better than microfiber? Ty
Use a microfiber applicator or foam applicator to apply, and a super plush soft microfiber towel for buffing like The Rag Company Eagle Edgeless towels.

@@PanTheOrganizer thanks. I’ll do that. Already ordered a dual action polisher and so now I’ll get those towels

Is regular old turtle wax any good?
Turtle Wax has come a long way these past two years. They have something even better than their regular wax, that’s inexpensive and is one of the best on the market. Watch my video here: th-cam.com/video/49DtbUBHMpg/w-d-xo.html

Pan TheOrganizer I saw the car shampoo on another channel. Ordered a gallon to check out. I guess I’ll let you know how that works out. Just got bitten by the buyers bug as I have plenty of soap ;-)
I get where you’re coming from. I must have 25 different soaps! Maybe more!
