What a breath of fresh air. The only thing I can add as a way of advice to my South African brother and sisters is for them to be aware that these meetings/conferences are nothing more than intel gathering on the part of Americans. Look how they deploy a so-called African to lead the meeting. In my dialect of the Nguni language we call it, "ukumunya umungula". They are trying to sus out what South Africa's next actions would be and then they can plan a counter.

Not some American assuming that South Africa can be pressured into a moral decision, taken by multitudes of our leaders over 60 years ago! It’s a moral stand that our liberation movement made to support the liberation of all and more directly, that of the Palestinian people. They supported our struggle to the hilt, with training our freedom fighters and helping to finance our liberation struggle. Palestine are our brothers in arms and we can never desert their struggle for freedom under the unjust oppression of this so called israeli state!

Joy Reid is either uninformed or deliberately repeating US propaganda, when she says there is apartheid in Gaza. Apartheid is in Israel proper- a society where its Palestinian citizens are second or third class. Israel is very far from a "liberal democracy" & this is clear to the world. Gaza, now destroyed by Israel's genocide, was under a brutal siege prior to Oct. 7, not a situation of apartheid.

Apples and oranges. Perfection is an utopian idea. All governments do harm & trample on citizen rights to varying degrees some more than others. In USA you can change the government every 2yrs if you don’t like the direction that things are going. You know very well there are more individual freedoms in USA than in both those countries combined. You can even take on the state and win. You can even have a press that is hostile to the government & have it protected by the same government.
