- Cave Johnson. The eccentric billionaire responsible for the creation of Aperture Science. Although some amazing products were created, the company also had it’s dark times. Where did Cave come from and what were his ambitions? I went to Aperture to find out!
I started Skyrionn to go back and look at easter eggs and the little details in classic video games. From that, I’ve moved on to looking at timelines and lore in video games.

If I have the facts correct, the Cave Johnson in Portal 2's main story isn't actually the one that discovered the multiverse and started the Extra-Earth Outsourcing Initiative. That was Cave Prime. You know he's from a different universe because he shuts down the development of GLaDOS in response to the ramblings of an alternate-universe Cave that was successfully uploaded into the program.
@GoTi4No That can't be true because the GLaDOS project wasn't shut down in the Portal universe. Cave Prime shuts it down in his universe.
@GoTi4No no he called himself cave prime because his earth was literally earth 1. This isn’t just something he decided as another cave obsessed with monitor for universal incursions from other earths referred to cave primes test subject as coming from earth 1 despite not being told this by cave prime.

There's just one small discrepancy regarding the extra-earth outsourcing initiative. He didn't discover it. It was the Cave from Earth 1, Prime.
You can tell they're two different Caves because of two things: Cave Prime didn't have the illness anymore by then, judging by the lack of a raspy voice and severe coughing, which means that he got cured from it somehow, while our Cave Johnson from the main campaign did die.
Secondly, Cave Prime Caught wind of the things that AI Cave from another universe said, which was a fault in the logic processes that made an unavoidable path towards wanting to kill Aperture and everyone inside it, after which Cave Prime Hastily cancelled the Genetic Lifeform and Disc Operating System initiative, as by his own words "that could have ended poorly", and as we know, GLaDOS did end up being completed in the main campaign.
These two facts (as well as Greg being Cave's assistant instead of Caroline) are what difference main campaign Cave from Cave Prime.
I find the abandoned part of portal 2 amazing. It's preserved but not and amazingly it feels so real. The voice things are like a preserved item found in a abandoned building. It's amazing. The empty rooms and abandoned test sections feel so real. You can imagine when they were used and inhabited. It's beautiful how you can hear the past through voice recordings. Imagine exploring a place like that in real life. "Over here!" Your voice echoes through the dark halls as you shine your flashlight on broken pipes. The voices of a man long dead blast over the speakers having no meaning other than to be a peek into the past. You can almost hear the busy halls of this place eco along the now empty walls.
In Another dimension, Cave somehow managed to become the leader of Black Mesa, and shut's down the project that leads to the Combine invasion. He also labels them under the Aperture brand of "Blaperture Science"

I honestly doubt that we get much more cave lore outside of desk job, desk job felt like a sort of last hurrah for cave Johnson, anything else we get will mostly be small references not much else

Definitely play them both! Start from Portal 1 and then go to Portal 2, this my suggestion :) One of my favourite games ever.
One of the Universe in the Multiverse has Cave Johnson achieve immortality as a incarnation of GLaDOS

Cave Johnson's looks are based off of one of the artist for the game or something, they have the same face and a couple times he cosplayed as cave

The cave from the Game isn't the cave who discovered transuniversal traveling. He died and glados put Hersfelf in Charge. The other cave ist from another universe. You can hear it in his voice btw. He Sounds very healthy while he introduces the multiverse if you ask me

I just found out that he wasn't really a scientist through this video and not gonna lie it hurts a lot, it gave me a different perspective on the charecter and I liked thinking of him as an actual scientist who founded Aperture science

why does everyone just assume he died? it never says so explicitly anywhere in the game. maybe he did end up getting to live by some means before going on to work on the perpetual testing initiative. Cave johnson dying doesn't really make any room in the timeline of events for perpetual testing to take place anyway.
Why do you assume Portal One and Two take place in Cave Prime's universe?
