There's a good chance Earth has been freed of the Combine for 1000s of years cause of Freeman and the mystery man, and all that wheat is to feed abundant human life
GLaDOS actually says something at the end of 1 how she’s safer inside, and so Portal 1 likely takes place around the time the Half-Life games take place, so Portal 2, being set an indeterminate amount of time in the future, likely a good few decades at minimum, a few thousand years tops, is likely LONG after everything there.
@@TheWither129 it’s really depressing when you think about it, Chell hasn’t met another human since she was kid (when GLaDOS casually murdered everyone there). Now she’s probably the only human alive.

America was pretty much completely destroyed by the portal storm and all that's left of humanity is with the Combine at Eastern Europe, she definitively won't find anything that can shoot at her, but for all we know she's probably gonna wander the remains of American until she dies or some Alien creature kills her, so R.I.P. Except the part when the scientist gave glados neurotoxin gas even tho they know she has murderous intents just because she said "it's for science" that's really dumb
I love the effort put into the video. A good connection with black mesa, One more thing I would add to open the bigger picture, is the Borealis events, Borealis an extremely important part of this universe. As you can clearly see it in HL2 Ep2 on the docks in Aperture, Yet when you play as Chell in portal 2, You can visit the dock in the Gel testing phase of the game, and find the Borealis missing. It opens a greater mystery as to who got to the Borealis first. Having Glados dormant anything could have taken place.
Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching! I love all the snippets of information that we get on the Borealis. I do go into the Borealis in my Half-life timeline video! I'm hoping we find out what the storyline with the Borealis would have been at some point!
The Borealis isn't in the docks of Aperture in EP 2, wtf are you talking about? It's clear from the message Mossman made that it seems to be in an Arctic shelf, possibly Antarctica. Somehow the ship was teleported to that location due to what it was carrying iirc.
@@connor48880 even if someone would make custom stuff about it, it won't change the fact, that there's no canonical evidence to us, the audience, so far, since it isn't confirmed by valve officially. I used to think that the massacre, at least, took place in '98, too, though I'm not sure why now that I look back. Anyway, according to the Half-Life wiki - yes, the events of Portal take place in 2010.

I find the thought of Combine soldiers being sent to investigate and then get lost and tested on for 5 years before another squad gets sent in to look for the first in an endless loop satisfying. I legit don't see The Combine being able to infiltrate it successfully and have a theory the moondust lining prevented any Xen portals from ever appearing in or around AS. Even an Overseer being sent in would get trapped, sent to a room with like 1000 autoturrets and hear sadistic text-to-speech laughing at it's psy-grub ass.
One thing that's always been on my mind is what happen to chell after portal 2....is dug rattman related to cave jonson? Is he related to chell? Or both
We're not sure what happened to her. The last thing we see is her coming out into a field of grain. A theory is that this is yet another test chamber or she may have escaped. As the amount of time is not stated from which the labs went into hibernation, we don't know what was happening on the outside world or who she met. I don't think Doug was related to Cave or Chell, and I couldn't find any evidence to suggest it. There was a theory that Chell may have been Cave's daughter, but again it is unconfirmed and there is a lack of evidence.
Doug rattman isn’t related to cave Johnson. The story actually would most likely suggest that chell is the daughter of cave Johnson and Caroline (glados) as she was the daughter of someone at the facility who was clearly knowledgable on potato science since her work has ‘daddies recipe’ on. Cave johnson was awarded for potato science. Her surname was redacted from the system. It’s clear she is Caroline’s daughter due to the ending of portal two, the song at the end translates to my daughter and some of the lyrics point strongly to that conclusion. So I think if anyone in the story was related, it was chell being cave and Caroline’s daughter. It also would line up well with the timeline.
No mention of what started GLaDOS's murderous traits in the first place: the mission statement for Aperture was 'we do what we can because we must' which is the epitome of nobility, but it was mistakenly typed into the main control unit as 'we do what we must because we can', which basically means GLaDOS could rationalize and justify all the killing. It went from we must do what we can to the ends justify the means. Beat Black Mesa at any cost.
lot of businesses start out with extremely basic products and end up making billions. Cave was probably the type of dude who saved up all the money he made in his shower curtain era and poured it all into making aperture labs whereas business men nowadays spend it on private jets and their mansions.
valve made this entire story in ~7 years (portal 1 began development in 2004, portal 2 released in 2011) portal 2 came out 9 years ago... if they are working on portal 3, even a bit, it’s gonna be outstanding. i believe in you valve, please count to 3
I heard that is was something they were trying to figure out, but it would be really hard cause it sounded like they wanted to do a Half Life Alyx thing where its VR but VR with Portals would make everyone throw up. So I think its gonna be a while before we get anything, But it will be an adventure!
In chapter 1 of P2, while Wheatley is guiding Chell’s relaxation vault to the P1 chambers, there are a few relaxation vaults with some information on them, including an expiration date. So it’s highly possible that Chell could’ve been in stasis for a maximum of around 20 years.
How come the Combine not able to detect the lab? The facility needs energy and that energy can be trace. I haven't played any of these game but with this amount of lore and source material, this can be a good Netflix series or probably a trilogy movie, the universe of Half-Life.
Valve wantes to make movies on there own. But the latest info was that they talked with other to do these movies. And the entire facility can perform test to a minimum of 1.1V
Maybe they DID try to enter the facility but GLaDOS was able to keep them at bay this is still unknown how she did that possibly spraying neurotoxins all over the facility.

@@beardedoranges8358 there is probably a wiki on it if you Google "portal 2 community test cave Johnson" but the gist is that every chamber is meant to be a different multiverse and one of the first recordings is cave saying something like "after we found out how to get into the multiverse finding test subjects became that much easier" you then get random clips of cave telling the player about the "overlords" commands or how the fight with the mantis men is coming along, there's is a clip of a mantis cave talking about how the fight with the men mantises is going badly etc
He did not kill people intentionally or directly, but some of the tests may have caused subjects untimely demise. But just because he didn't kill people personally, doesn't mean he was a good person. 7:10 - "Sometime later that year - " How do you know that the morality core was built _before_ the BYDTWD disaster in the early 90's - but only installed onto GLaDOS after? I was always thought that the core was built as a direct result of that tragedy, not... before. I'm not really sure why this timeline has that event sandwiched inbetween the construction and installment of the core.
With dates, I did rely on the Wiki. I'll have to double check though to see if I am mistaken. I took information multiple pages to attempted to put it into a chronological timeline!
when glados got chell with the elevator outside, chell didn't really got outside. she got in a fake scene somewhere in aperture science lab, while atlas and p-body (maybe i think) turned glados off instantly. this continuing story of mine is in thinking with time machine game.
Really good, but you forgot how aperture became a defense contractor and how cave was exposed to Mercury while making shower curtains, which probably contributes to the overall madness and wackiness of the company and their methods. There a few other small details and missing important details but this is much better than other similar videos I have seen. I like the animations too, good job
There were a few things I kept, and in retrospect, I should have put in to add clarity for his mind set and some aspects of the story. I was focused on telling the main story and had to cut a few details to make sure the video wasn't 2 hours long! Thanks for watching!
This was awesome, how did you get the info though? I've played both games but alot of the information isn't mentioned in either, this is awesome, i love portal so much dude
Thank you! A lot of the information is mostly in Portal 2. To fill in more of the information, the Portal Wikia helped a lot! If you like Portal, you may like the Half-life timeline I also did!
I just thought of the fact that if Chell was only a child at Aperture Science during Bring your daughter to work day and Glados was activated during that day shouldn't she have the mind of a child during Portal 1 and 2?
I feel there is something wrong about abandoned salt mine that Cave purchased. A businessman who's wealth based on shower curtains, all of sudden decides to invest money on science. But most weird part is the salt mine, why buying a mine that is 4200 meters underground ? This brings me to some hypotheses: 1- after getting very rich Gman appeared in front of Cave & told him what to do, thus contributing to events of Portal 1 2-or, somehow Cave discovered about salt mine & what was there changed his life. Maybe mine discovery has something to do with military & World War 2, through which he discovered that salt mine, after all, he developed high-tech shower curtains for military, so he might have useful contacts that brought him valuable info Also, why Portal gun & Gravity gun have the same colors, orange & blue ? Two games have their stories going around portals. What if Cave discovered in that salt mine that orange mineral we can see in Gravity gun ? Somehow he understood the value of that mineral, so he decided to go into science to unlock it's true potential. Now, why did that mineral was in that salt mine ? Well, why did portal gun worked on moon ? I suppose that mineral came from moon (somehow) as asteroid & when it fell on earth, it pierced the bottom of that land place for 4 km. Cave gone crazy with time, I guess this has to do with mineral experiments. Also, Mesa might have stolen some info regarding mineral as well as mineral itself, thus created their own experiments, but while Apperture got their Portal Gun mechanic, Mesa got dimension Portal result. Besides, if experiments with mineral brought Cave to craziness, then in Mesa, it brought to Gman. & the last, all this is might be bullshit.
Sorry to disappoint, but the latest Valve statement was there won't be a Portal VR because of Motion Sickness problems. Apparently they tried and failed.
My theory is that when chell escapes couple years later rat-man is awakened by GLADOS accidentally when they where looking for more human test subjects and GLADOS try’s to test with him and enviably GLADOS will try to kill him with neurotoxin but since he is basically immune to it (bc he didn’t die the first time or the second) he escapes and finds the switch to turn off the facility and he pulls it now GLADOS is permanently turned off he gets to the surface and gets almost killed by the creatures and finds refuge in one of the abandoned camps from the resistance.
Great job on this timeline video! I really enjoyed seeing all of the portal events in one coherent timeline. Side note: it was nice to read the discussions about the lore in the comments (plus it was super cool to see you being so interactive with your viewers. One thought I've had is that if Doug Rattman still is alive. Personally, I believe he is (he gets into the relaxation vault, but in portal 2 the bed is missing, however, we don't know if anything happened to it? (moved somewhere else? destroyed? he escaped?)). Anyway, I think it would be really cool to see him incorporated into a future game. Any thoughts? I would be really interested to see what you think. Also, great work again glad to see someone making cool videos like this about my favorite game ever!
Thanks for watching! I didn't realise that loads of discussions would appear here, but I love it. A little community of sorts. It was never confirmed what happened to him. I believe he did pass away but it is plausible that he could still be alive. It'd be great if he managed to leave, and get to the outside. There, Chell and Doug could possibly deal with whatever is happening on the outside world. Stick around, I have more Portal/ Half-Life content in the works!
portal 2, despite having no jumpscares, gore, or horror elements whatsoever, remains the scariest game i ever have or ever will play. the test chambers later on in the game chill you to the bone, especially combined with the disturbing prerecorded messages and inkling that something horrifying happened there. once you get into the gaps between levels, where you can see forever into a gray abyss, there's no scarier feeling. absolute masterpiece of a game.
I found portal 1 more of a horror atmosphere tbh. Throughout the game you’re wondering where is everyone then find out this AI you’ve been talking to for the whole game killed everyone. Portal 2 still has some horror elements with the old aperture but for the most part it’s comedy focused with action sequences.
I have to know how you got these accompanying animations. I can tell you used locations from Portal 1 and 2, but all of these scenes aren't from the games, and they are so well done!
Im assuming the rat man gave chell the companion cube at the ending of portal 2.. If that gets confirmed then thats just sweet. Or sad depending on how you look at it.
I'm pretty sure he's dead by that time. And I've read somewhere that Valve said that this is in fact the very same companion cube that Chell supposedly destroyed in Portal (and it doesn't have the general cube redesign that happened in Portal 2)
My pet theory: Coming off the possible (and very likely) theory that Caroline is Chells mother, i think Caveman is *not* her father. I believe an employee had a secret relationship with her, giving birth to Chell. Caveman never found out, thus he asked for her to be uploaded - but she felt guilty, which explains why Glados "had" to delete her. Ratman might have been that employee, which would explain his affection for Chell, but i dont know if the timeline matches
It's crazy that Chell grew up in Aperture Science Laboratories. With how much time passed between when she came with her mom for Bring Your Daughter to Work Day to her finally escaping the facility in Portal 2., my best guess is that she is between 20-30 yrs-old biologically but I couldn't imagine how old chronologically.
Legitimately, I could see what happens next aligning with Half Life 3, or near that time. I'm imagining a spin-off game, with a title along the lines of "Half Life: Portal".

If GLaDOS didn’t get rid of it, who did?
So many possibilities...someone should make a Custom Map telling that story
The Borealis isn't in the docks of Aperture in EP 2, wtf are you talking about? It's clear from the message Mossman made that it seems to be in an Arctic shelf, possibly Antarctica. Somehow the ship was teleported to that location due to what it was carrying iirc.
Wasn't it black mesa who stole it which is how they developed their portal technology?
@@connor48880 even if someone would make custom stuff about it, it won't change the fact, that there's no canonical evidence to us, the audience, so far, since it isn't confirmed by valve officially.

Guys, I think Chell is Caroline's daughter, because if you translate the song the turrets sang it calls Chell " My daughter"
@@Skyrionn we actually kinda are. All of it it is revealed in Portal 2 Sixth Perception or sometinh like this
@@phinus7295 That's not canon
Read Blue Sky. I accept that as canon lol
This is the moment you realize how little business sense Aperture's history makes.
"Here me out, what if we took people's wallets"

Cave was probably the type of dude who saved up all the money he made in his shower curtain era and poured it all into making aperture labs whereas business men nowadays spend it on private jets and their mansions.

One question, though. When Cave Johnson tested, did he kill his test subjects at the end? Or was he not evil.
As far as I'm aware, the subjects were paid for participating in the experiments, so I'm assuming they lived.
Some subjects did die though.
He did not kill people intentionally or directly, but some of the tests may have caused subjects untimely demise. But just because he didn't kill people personally, doesn't mean he was a good person. Also, while fictional characters can often be purely black or white (evil or good, which is not the case here by the way), in reality, it is never that simple, just remember.

I feel there is something wrong about abandoned salt mine that Cave purchased. A businessman who's wealth based on shower curtains, all of sudden decides to invest money on science. But most weird part is the salt mine, why buying a mine that is 4200 meters underground ? This brings me to some hypotheses:
1- after getting very rich Gman appeared in front of Cave & told him what to do, thus contributing to events of Portal 1
2-or, somehow Cave discovered about salt mine & what was there changed his life. Maybe mine discovery has something to do with military & World War 2, through which he discovered that salt mine, after all, he developed high-tech shower curtains for military, so he might have useful contacts that brought him valuable info
Also, why Portal gun & Gravity gun have the same colors, orange & blue ? & the last, all this is might be bullshit.

portal 2, despite having no jumpscares, gore, or horror elements whatsoever, remains the scariest game i ever have or ever will play. the test chambers later on in the game chill you to the bone, especially combined with the disturbing prerecorded messages and inkling that something horrifying happened there.
once you get into the gaps between levels, where you can see forever into a gray abyss, there's no scarier feeling. absolute masterpiece of a game.
I found portal 1 more of a horror atmosphere tbh. Throughout the game you’re wondering where is everyone then find out this AI you’ve been talking to for the whole game killed everyone. Thank you! I really appreciate it. I hope you enjoy it!
@@Skyrionn where did you get all the models?
It's crazy that Chell grew up in Aperture Science Laboratories. With how much time passed between when she came with her mom for Bring Your Daughter to Work Day to her finally escaping the facility in Portal 2., my best guess is that she is between 20-30 yrs-old biologically but I couldn't imagine how old chronologically.
Petition to change "from Rags to Riches" to "From shower curtains to SCIENCE"
Chell probably be like:
"Shit, let me back in!"
Who knows if the Combine are still there. With the Combine draining the earth of all resources, it makes me think why there is a field of grain there.
No.
Good video!
Thank you! Thanks for watching!
Legitimately, I could see what happens next aligning with Half Life 3, or near that time. I'm imagining a spin-off game, with a title along the lines of "Half Life: Portal".
These videos are why I love TH-cam. You just search and boom a full movie for free by a guy that goes a better job then all of cable
If you liked this one, you may like my latest timeline on both Half-Life and Portal! Thanks for the compliment too. I really appreciate it.
Really well done! I really like all the visuals you created. It definitely helped the whole story make sense. Great work!
Thanks for watching it :D
Nice job
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
