I was in 7th grade when this was filmed. This was the year I fell in love with KISS after Rock N Roll Over came out. Amazing how much of their face was actually shown there.
I recorded this interview on my little tape deck when it first aired. Just put it right up against the tv speaker. I listened to that cassette tape for years. So great to actually see it again. Thanks!
I watched this on the original broadcast as a kid and was completely losing my mind knowing KISS was just a half hour from where we lived when they did this interview. Brings back great memories of a completely different time. Magic.

Fifty-three year old lifelong KISS fan here! Always loved this interview. I got it on VHS many years ago, probably from a KISS convention dealer. Got a kick out the 1970s clothes and jewelry. From 9:32 to 9:47 Paul kind of forgets there’s a camera behind him, and shows some of his right profile a few times! It’s brief, but it’s there. Also- why was Ace only half-sitting on that chair? They talked about Peter’s earring. I think Peter was the first KISS member to HAVE an earring. He wears one on the Dynasty cover. Loved Paul’s comment at the end- ‘We were just about to eat the flowers.’ Cool Tiger-embroidered jacket on Ace. And of course, the famous ‘one red sneaker and one orange sneaker’ story at Ace’s audition! Ack! I wish Allison had asked better questions, though, and followed up on a few of their answers. And Gene with his insect jewelry, a long white scarf and a beret on his head! What a hoot, that Chaim! Finally, she says they’re all ‘much taller than the average man.’ Uh, not quite! I’m guessing Peter is around five foot 7 inches, if that. Ever seen him standing next to the other three? Paul’s around 5’ 10’. How do I know for sure? I met KISS (Revenge album lineup) at the The Ritz in New York on June 28, 1993 (I still have the pass!) with Bruce Kulick and Eric Singer. They were all shaking hands and signing (free) autographs at a table (it was a VERY long line!). Clips from their KONFIDENTIAL home video played on a screen behind them. I’m 5’ 10’’, and Paul and I were eye to eye, so I know he’s around 5’ 10’’ too. I got a kick out of that! Gene’s a little taller. They were all very cool to everyone, shaking hands and signing for a few hours. Was a real thrill to meet the authors of Detroit Rock City, Black Diamond, Deuce, and a couple hundred more! A few of my rock and roll heros! LONG LIVE KISS! 😎👍🏼🎵🎸🥁
this is simply amazing to watch. this is right before the tipping point, right before the band rapidly imploded. they were still 4 brothers, grateful & supportive of each other. Ace is still soft spoken and eloquent, Peter fully invested. Paul & Gene speaking way more than the others, as was normal…. but not because they wanted to drown out any division, but purely out of passion. if only 1978, that horrible movie & enough money for all the coke & booze in the world hadn't happened...
That stuff is fascinating. They should release more like this. Those who were around during this time period would pay thru the teeth to see them walking down the street with no makeup when they were young.
I was 6 hen this was filmed. I was around 9 was I was allowed exposure to Kiss . And I never turned back. On a sad note San frans best days are so far behind it. Used to be such a beautiful town. Now it’s fallen victim to the filth of humanity.
In 1976 I was a little boy and I bought the album out that year. Detroit Rock City. Anyway, Satan appeared outside the window for 25 minutes when the, God of Thunder song played. You have been warned!

? I mean the solo albums ended up being a disaster, but they plowed through it. The silly movie they made was one of the highest rated of the year for television. Dynasty was a platinum record. The subsequent dynasty tour was something most bands could only dream of, and the fact that it didn’t make money, for the band was because of the band itself, and the expenses that they incurred not because no one came to the tour Unmasked was dead in states but huge in Australia. The elder and creatures of the night were the lows for popularity
They were/are so brilliant at the gimmick, geesh, they take off their make up they can walk around an no one knew they were KISS. Put the paint and their KISS again.
I wonder, how the peoole in the background would've reacted, if they were aware of who is sitting there, just a few Yards away. I mean this was, when KISS was on top of the World.
Was 14 when this came out ! Was a fan since 74 ! And still a fan at 58 !! The 70's were the best ! Hands down !
