BMW R1250GS, do your Michelin Road 6's drift to the left🤔

  • Just wondering how many GS's fitted with the Road 6 Michelin tyres have a tendency to drift to the left. Tyre pressures are fine and indeed the bike handles really well with the R6's but the thing drifts to the left when I take my hands off the bars. Or is it just me? May be I will keep hands on the bars at all times!
Folk have said the R5's don't do this.....what tyres are good for spirited road riding and don't veer?

Installed in a Kawasaki Z900RS. Also pulls to the left. I spent alot of time aligning the wheels with the string method, basicaly perfect alignment. Still pulls to the left.

Spanish 2023 Hornet 750 here 👋, fresh mounted Road 6s by a top shop (did 1000km in a couple of days) it pulls heavily to the left when hands off, didn't do it with the factory mounted Road 5s. That being said, I'm going to keep them because in absolutely every other scenario they are brilliant. No pull whatsoever when hand(s) on at any speed, from slow U-turns to [REDACTED] on the highway. Today went to my favourite twisties in Catalonia to test them at high lean angles and the bike goes on rails, so i see no danger whatsoever. Still pretty embarrassing coming from a huge brand like Michelin. Will try Roadsmart IVs next.

Same issue here. Put on road 6’s on my 2021 BMW 1250 gs and experience the pull to the left as well. The handling and feel of the tyre is great, but the pull is noticeable, especially with no hands on the handlebar. Precious tyres (although noticeably worn out) did have this. Not sure if its the tyre or the alignment. From all comments it looks like the tyre

Just got into the motorcycle life, I threw an road 5 for the rear on a used bike to get by and it was fine, threw a road 6 up front and my 14 cbr500 pulls left and to remotely balance handlebar free, I gotta lean right, for the first month I thought it was my newbie lack of skill but I came from an MTB background and can balance a bike no problem, I think its the tire honestly

When checking online forums, it's not an uncommon issue. Yeah, supposed to be a great tyre, but they do drift to a side. It's not an alignment issue, it's the tyre and the bike. It's why I haven't gone for them ... yet.

Thanks "so much" for the video.
I was just about to buy new sneakers for my dear companion (Super Tenere 2020).
Actually she'd asked for a pair of A41s when I was searching for fresh T32s since I'm more biased to stay on-road.
Strangely everyone around was suggesting the Road 6s. The service, the dealers, Mr. G...
It made me suspicious somehow. And I've seen your post. And in the comments:
"They now know, and they'll fix it."
Wow!!! What about those who are affected?
Guess I'll listen to "her" and try and buy a pair of A41s if I can find something fresh...

I have the same experience with the 6's on my 1250gs. A pitty because the handling is perfect. I replace them for the Pirelli's scorpion trail 2 and the problem is almost solved. I think it is caused by the rotation direction of the engine. The 6s are more tensly of that matter

That’s not the tires. It’s the torque reaction from the Boxer and shaft drive. My 2017 GS does that no matter what tires I’ve put on it: Metzler, Michelin and Dunlop.
Just keep your body upright and let the bike move side to side underneath you. The bike will rock side to side as you roll on and off the throttle. That’s how the boxer is meant to be ridden. It’s kinda like a passive type of counterbalancing.

At tyre repair shop now- they say this is common with most heavy adventure bikes spending most time on uk roads (camber to left). The right side wears quicker! Solution: have a nice adventure holiday in Eorope! Also I get frequent slow punctures in rear tyre. Told that sticky tyre compound collects flint etc at front tyre which flips it back to the rear. Probably buy Bridgestone next time.

I have just installed road 6s, on my 2018 GSA and the bike is drifting to the left. Did not have the same issue with my anakee 3 and I was paying attention prior as I had seen this video before removing the Anakees. Would be interesting if this will eventually go away!

does it still do this if you move your butt to the right a bit? there's also that wiggle thing you got to do whenever you put the wheel back on the fork, while applying the brake and jumping on the suspension and only then then tighten the final screws, did they do that at the tyre shop where you got them fitted?

I'm going to test if there is a problem with the tyres. I have a friends T12 here with a Metzeler Tourance exp tyre on the front. This bike tracks perfectly. Im going to swap wheels with my bike that has the Michelin Road 6 tyres that pulls hard to the left and see what happens. If it doesn't pull after changing the wheels I'm going to claim them faulty and ask for a refund.

Yep - A really WIERED problem to have!!
But - I believe it is NOTHING to do with Tyre Makes at all!!!
I believe we may all have this problem, to a lesser or greater degree? It's just that we've never noticed it before!
When I ride my Bicycle, with NO Hands - The bike leans slightly to the Left!
When I ride my XTZ660, with NO Hands - The bike leans Slightly to the Left!!
    - Over 5 different makes & types of Tyres fitted!
When I ride my BMW (R1200GSA), with NO Hands - The bike leans slightly to the Left!!!
    - Stock tyres AND Michelin Anakee Wild (50/50) tyres!
So - The common denominator here is NOT the Bike, NOT the Tyres, but ME!!!!
Nothing to do with the MAKE of a Tyre!!
Nothing to do with WHAT we are riding!!
Extremely unlikely to be the seating of the tyre bead on the rim??
Personally, I believe it's to do with our Skeletal makeup, or bias...
    - We ALL have one leg slightly longer than the other (maybe only a fraction of a mm - But it's there)
    - This in turn, leads to slight imbalance in the hips & Joints?
    - This then leads to our upper torso compensating slightly
    - And maybe even our Inner-Ear balancing system 'Prorammed' for our Slight 'Tilt'
Under NORMAL situations (Sitting, Walking, Running) we will NEVER notice this difference.
    - Though if you take a look at Olympic Athletes, they have these errors(?) corrected by Physio & Orthopeadics!
However, as soon as you have a Great Big Flyweel spinning away, any 'Slight' imbalance it exagerated 100x or more.
    - So, All to do with physics!
    As for this video...
This chap may well have had that problem with the previous tyre?
    - He just did NOT notice it!!
    - Maybe due to tyre weights, flywheel effect, who knows.
But, I can almost guarantee, that if/when he refits the old tyres back..
    - He'll then notice a very slight bias!!
Added to the above, may be the issue of Road Camber??
But for ME, the Camber angle (UK/France) makes NO difference.
    - Bike leans to the Left, whether I ride in the UK or France.
    - There may(?) be a slight difference in the lean-angle - But I've never really noticed this.
    In conclusion...
This effect ONLY happens when you are riding with NO HANDS!!!
So - There is a Very EASY Solution to this non-problem ;-)
