I went through the same issue. The heat cycle worked fine when the outside temperature was cold, but when the weather warmed up the unit would not heat. All indicators were the thermostat, but that proved not to be the case. I disconnected the white wire, just as you did but that did not help. No error codes whatsoever. When I put the unit in cool mode, then changed it back to heat mode, the heater would come on for a short period then shut off without any errors. That was the clue. This unit was a commercial installation, on top of a flat roof. The back of the condenser was facing south, so it was getting the afternoon sun, which was the same period of time that the heater stopped producing. This is also where one of the three thermistors was mounted to the exterior of the condenser, so I covered it with a white cloth to shade it from the afternoon sun. It worked! The unit continued to provide heat without cutting out. I orded a new thermistor harness, ( three to a harness ) and a new mother board, just in case it was a program issue. Now, this seems to be a factory defect, which I spent many hours troubleshooting. However I don't see where Gree is owning it. The company needs to standup and do the right thing.
Had the white wire issue on a pioneer unit same type of setup. Just whenever white wire was connected no blower fan in heating their tech support guy had no idea why either.
I sale / install these daily I love them best on market, most of the time it ain't the equipment itself usually thermostats or outta sink due to power surge.
The 5 ton air handlers had an issue with the electrical grid here in Jacksonville and we had to change out the motors. Other then that I like these alot..
My 230 BH is wired w/o heat strip in MA because these Gree units automatically fire their heat strips when in defrost mode. At ~.$30/KWh, even only during defrost a 5-10KW heat strip can add up. If you opt w/o, the fan shuts off during defrost and the system basically stops apart from defrosting the outdoor coil. I actually requested an unwired heat strip and it was an orderal: -Electrician installed 5KW strip, but didn't install the >15A wire (came back). Technically, he figured he was safe, as unit was initially wired not to call for the strip. Duh -Separate switch is necessary, to avoid frying the A/H board. Can't simultaneously wire the A/H both ways (strip/no strip). -Dip switches were all left on their defaults ANYBODY going with these somewhat unique, ton-selectable Gree Flexx units, I believe they're delivered toggled to the higher ton settings and your installer has to switch them to 4, or 2, ton manually. Young HVAC guys, in my case installed a Mitsu smart-multi and Gree system and didn't/wouldn't touch any dip switches (including the branch box). Gree actually came to my house and the installer, again, had to come back. Beware. Boston barely got below 15F for a couple hours, all winter 23/24. So, I don't believe we will but can't comment on whether 0F, etc., will have us reaching for the 5KW.
was hard to see what terminal white wire was going too but in general, the outdoor unit doesn't really know if it's heating or cooling. It has a reversing valve signal on B terminal and that wire goes directly to your thermostat which will energize or not-energize (depends on system) when at same time calling for heat to the air handler on W1 terminal.
Yes. I got it running, the last segment I took the White wire off the board in the air handler and it came right on. For some reason once I took it off the motor came right on. Strange and Gree has no clue why that happens either.
I'm having the same issue with my Gree Flexx. I installed a new system last month, and the heat did not work the next day. The HVAC guy came and started it; it worked a couple of times in the previous few weeks, but the heat did not work last week. The HVAC guy came and tried multiple things and switched from a Nest thermostat to an old Honeywell Thermostat to a different thermostat with a separate O/B connection. Nest and Honeywell's thermostats had single O/B connections, and he suspected the issue could be that. The fan still would not turn ON in heat mode, with the thermostat having a separate O/B connection. On further diagnosis, he concluded that it was an issue with the fan not coming on in heat mode. The fan works fine in cool mode. He left without fixing it and told me he needed more time to figure this out. I have FLEXX36HM230V1BH and FLEXX36HP230V1A0. I do not have a heat strip. Should I ask him to check the white wire?
Yea I had wire issues on mine as well but it was different issues. Live in RI so we have the heat strip just in case. But had a $900 electric bill the other month, and had my AC tech come out. Narrowed it down to a few issues but it ended up being the wire to the heat strip had a burnt connection (due to a shitty electrician messing with the unit), and that burnt connection was somehow moving power to the heat strip 24/7. My overall running time of the unit was 24 hours a day and it dropped back down to 10-15 hours instantly. I need to have my tech come out and check my thermostat because your issue with this unit sounds familiar to my new issues now (system shuts off and doesn't come on unless I power cycle it).
@@stevenpitera8978 you have a 4/5 ton??? If you do it’s the motor. You need to have him change it out. If you have to turn the breaker off then on that means the fan motor has an issue. @@Sunrise_HVAC strange. I’ve had similar issues with eco bee if it wasn’t set up right, when calling for the heat strips the fan won’t turn on. On the eco bee setting you have to have let the thermostat control the fan or else fan on turn on during heat strips
Why not use multimeter at the condenser unit outside, to verify what the thermostat is or is not calling for. It's just 24vac, reversing valve & compressor wires.
Did that and there was no 24 volts going to the unit through the w1 wire. It was cooling just fine and there was 24 volts to the B terminal in heating, which that is supposed to have.
