Great video! Quick and to the point with some good tips and tricks. I have the same tool/pulley dilemma as well, so I will be doing some grinding, it appears, today when I take on this job.
Hi, Thank you for your video, it caught my eye as have the same tool. The way you extended it saves me having to use a pole, which would move the holder away from the pulley slightly! I don't think the pins are long enough or tool needs milling as can see the locating body hitting the ribs. Further more, the socket I bought is 80mm long which isn't long enough, if I add a 50mm extension then I will have to remove the fan. Original pulley and new one are both genuine Mercedes parts. With that tool it looks like I need a 100mm socket (that I can't find anywhere) or a shallow socket with a 50mm extension which I'm reluctant to use
You're welcome and thanks for your comment that may help others. You may need to mill the edges of the tool to get it to sit deeper in the pulley. Yes, I understand the stubby extension may be a little sketchy. We used a deep impact socket 75mm long with a breaker bar. It could be we had just the right size. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
@@fatherandsonfixThanks again, took no time at all, just needed to remove the four torx screws on the back of the fan and remove it, to give a little more room as needed 100mm to clear the tool before attaching the breaker bar, I guess the tool and or engines vary. Mines a CL500 face-lift
@@MrPrince173 Yes, we have the M112 (v6), you have the M113 (v8) that we wish we had :) Thanks for the follow-up which will help others with the v8 and tighter clearances.
Yes, the steps will be similar. You will want to check the tool and crankshaft pulley are correct for your model. You should have the M272 engine. Leave a comment with tips for your model to help others that have the same vehicle.
We had about 199k on the car when we replaced the pulley. It looked like the original pulley! We've put about 500 miles on it since then with no issues.
Perhaps, the challenge is getting enough access. To use a power tool you may need to remove the bumper cover, support bar, radiator and fan. This method doesn't require any removal on the M112 (v6) and only the fan as needed on M113 (v8) and vehicle. You could try a universal joint for the power tool, but it may not hold up to the torque.
I HAVE A HARMONIC BALANCE WITH FIVE HOLES IN IT {2009 mercedes e320 bluetec 3.0 diesel. the pins in holder will not line up with the balancer i have. FIVE HOLES IN BALANCER.
Thanks for your tip which will help others with the E320 bluetec. If the three pins don't line up, you could try measuring to see if two of the pins will line up, then grind down one. However, it may best to look for another removal tool.
@@michaelbrueckner3893 Yes 360/5 = 72. The tool we have is 360/3 = 120. We thought if you could shave the sides to get the 120 out to 144, but probably not. We've seen people weld their own tools before. There are also universal holders that adjust.

You're welcome, John. Glad it helped!
Great video, thanks mate.
Thank you, that's a honor from you! We love your videos.
Does the crankshaft rotate clockwise?
Yes, when viewed from the front.
I believe I have a m272 engine on a c300, would the procedure be the same?
Yes, the procedure is the same. The tool and part may look slightly different. Always double-check part numbers and instructions for your model.
hi, would this work on a 2011 ml350?
Yes, the steps will be similar. You will want to check the tool and crankshaft pulley are correct for your model. You should have the M272 engine. Leave a comment with tips for your model to help others that have the same vehicle.

Can you use a gun to just zip it off I mean the crank bolt?

Hej. What size wrench does the pulley bolt have?

27mm
can any body tell me what a M112 is? is that the W211 ???
M112 is the v6 gas/petrol engine, M113 is the V8 engine.
