Yeah, probably more than 3 hours. I dropped the pan on my 4x4 and it took me a full day. Very satisfying when your oil pressure returns. I had mechanics quote me $800 in labor to replace a $3 part. Such a bad design on GM's part.
@@bruceyyyyy hello bruce, did you have to prime the oil pump when you replaced?? Im scared to put everuthing back until i figure out about how to prime the easiest way
@@bruceyyyyy i got pump replaced and went to start and truck had no oil pressure so was told it had to be primed so after spending over 2k in 3months with 3dif mechanic shops i tried doing it myself but now i dk how to prime easiest way and have no faith and $ to hire another mechanic and its my only vehicle and its used for work truck so im beyond frustrated,.any help u can give on priming orr i would greatly appreciate it bruce
So I’m not understanding what you did. You replace the O-ring between the the pump and the pickup tube? Not understanding at all. Trying to find video now on how to replace oil pump on a 4.3L Chevy s10. 2002. Can’t seem to find a decent one.
Mine came right off with an M18 impact. I then removed the pulley with a puller and reinstalled it by heating the balancer up before sliding it over the crankshaft.
@@bruceyyyyy I have the M18 impact. I only have about 60% luck getting things off. End up using the breaker bar a lot. Some say it’s the 5.0 battery. I’m not sure.

@@eastside0434 I just replaced the pump since I had to have it come off. Was around $100 for a high pressure version. I get around 70 cold and around 50 hot now according to the factory gauge.

I didn't drop the pan on this 4X4. I did it from the front by rotating the bracket that holds the o ring. It was about 3 hours start to finish.

@@jeremyjones8872 I did not.

@@jeremyjones8872 It looks like there is a service port on the side of the block that can be used to prime it.
Well that couldn’t get any more less informative
Please explain why you cut that tab off, was it to fit the wrong O ring?
So I didn't need to drop the oil pan
It was to move bolt from lower mounting on pump to upper side, easier to install

Yes the o ring was the culprit. This is a 5.3 V8 so I'm not sure how helpful it will be for you.
Was it ticking?,im trying to figure out if that's my problem
Mine wasn't ticking. Just had very low oil pressure.
@@bruceyyyyy thanks
How tough is it to get the harmonic balancer bolt off?

It definitely does better with my 9/12AH batteries but it gets heavy with those.
Thanks, I guess I'll already spend over 3 days trying to figure out what the problem now thanks to you, I know now what's is the problem is.👍
I did it the same way .
Very nice
I think it had pressure, just didn’t show on the gauge
How much would a mechanic charge to do that
A good shop not a lot with this method. But this isn't an approved method but any book that I've seen.
A mechanic wouldn’t do that 😂
how did you remove the screw from the lower position of the pump? did you have to remove the pump to do it?
Yes the pump was removed and reinstalled.
But not the 4.8?
I think the 4.8/5.3/6.0 are all the same set up.
Will this work on a 6.0.?
I believe this procedure should be the same for the 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0

False advertisement. This video is way longer than 3 minutes.
Fun fact: 3 minutes and some seconds is still 3 minutes according to the National Education Association
@@bruceyyyyy I trust the knowledge base of the public education system
You mean 4 minute video.
Wouldn’t it just be easier to drop the pan? 😂
Maybe on a 2WD. Dropping the entire front end doesn't seem easier with this being a 4WD.
Did it I do tik noice
Gambler!!!!!
GAMBLEST!
You just change the O ring to fix this problem???????????
Yes. Common issue with age.
