- In this video I give a full in depth tour of the 2001 Jaguar XJ8 Vanden Plas. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

I love these old XJs so much. Slim and long and elegant. You could see the silhouette a mile away and know it's the XJ. Now we have the same cookie cutter crap from all brands.

The last of the "real" Jaguars (X308) 1997-2003. Metal made fluid works of art. Monarchs of luxury from Coventry England. Highly unreliable, yet worth every penny. From the hand finished real walnut wood with boxwood inlay to the Conolly leather with piping to the walnut picnic tables, mark my words these cars will be highly prized by collectors within 10 years time.

They are already hard to find in good condition in 2017. Prices in my area are going up up up!
A jaguar from this era is never going to be highly prized.
They are actually very reliable, especially the straight six.

Earlier today I was thinking "I wish Kyle would do another X308 Jag" then lo and behold you've done one!
Unless you are referring to pre-1995 Jaguars, reliability did improve. We have three of them in our family and all of them are XJs. The other two, a 2006 Super V8 Portfolio and a 2009 Super V8 Portfolio are in excellent condition. All of these have been daily drivers for my father who's a doctor running between 4 clinics, administrative duties at the university hospital, and etc. The same cannot be said for my mother's two BMWs that go in for repairs more often and are driven much less.
@saabkyle04 I love your videos mostly seen all of the ones of between 2001 and 2011 models! Only place where you can find almost any car and watch full tour and start ups! Keep up the good work man!

And so did we. My father has a 2001 Vanden Plas Supercharged that we bought over 11 years ago in 2000. That was new for the U.S. in 1999, unlike England in 1997.

Hi; i'm looking at one of these. A man here is only asking $1000 for his 2002 and says it's 'running rough'. Not sure how many miles are on it. Any advice on buying it? Anything i need to know or be on the lookout for? 'running rough' may mean a new engine for all i know :) I'll take my first look at it tomorrow. Hope you can help; thanks

@extremepsychogamer I beg to differ on that because unlike other cars; Jaguar does not use rivets to install their parts, but uses bolts and screws. Even though many of their replaced parts carry a LIFETIME warranty, those parts that accrue wear and tear are made up of a better material than most other cars. I have been able to use parts out of salvage yards that are over 20years or more for a Jaguar and for other cars; and the salvage parts are only good for about 7-10 years.

It's a rebadged Daimler. Mercedes-Benz thinks Americans can't tell the difference between them and the British manufacturer and forced Jaguar to use Vanden Plas instead.
The fact that the Daimler Brand has alway been British and the name was regestered before mercedes used it in there brand makes me think that ford need to stick to there guns because the Daimler name was brought back when they changed to the aluminium bodied xj. VP was another coach builder. I use to had the top spec Daimler Vanden Plas but the VP badge never went on the grill or boot boss because VP is trim level.
Mercedes do like to think they are something more than they are.
It's easy for Daimler AG to to so since they successfully gimped the grey import market and shut down American LaFrance. They've also extorted Studebaker into distributing only their cars when attempting to help Facel Vega enter the U.S. market. Current owners Tata need to find ways to end Daimler AG's legal abuse.
Rosco P. Coltrane Tata being India do not give a toss about about Mercedes plus Tata are many time bigger than Mercedes they did bring the Daimler name back to American between 2008 and 10 but they have dropped the name fully at the moment.
at the moment they concentrate getting market share from BMW and mb the issue Jaguar have is not the look of the car but the interior material quality is not there yet

Then why has my father's 2000 Vanden Plas Supercharged lasted for 12 years without any frequent or significant repairs? The only major issue was with Nikasil liners from 1997 to August 2000 production. Ours was built during that period and it's fine.

@WilliamVandervleut That was always the idea behind Jaguar cars, traditional styling. It's not until now with the newest XJ did they start looking really modern. The car might look old but it still had all of the latest refinements of the time.
@Daaoud94 Yes. This is the equivalent to the Daimler V8. In Europe you also have the Super V8 feauturing the XJR's supercharged 370BHP engine
@Jakeman2164 This Jag will have a valet key dude, basically you press the valet switch and then the glovebox/boot (trunk for the US) will only be able to be unlocked with the valet key, as if you pressed the button and gave them the usual key, they could just unlock the glovebox or boot with that key.

@Mackintosh95 If I remember right it locks all the other doors and the glove box and trunk so a valet driver or service worker cannot get at your belongings in the trunk, and glove box. One of my ex-girlfriend's had stuff stolen out of their Subaru while it was in the shop.
@DrJohnBecker I was wondering the same thing, from what i've seen he never does exhaust clips on Jags, pretty disspointing because they sound amazing.

@tremer88 The Vanden Plas is the extended wheel base version so the rear doors are larger to provide easier access to the rear seats. It is done that same way on long wheel base S-Classes, 7-series, A8, etc.

@851995STARGATE Hey like I said it's just what I heard. I saw that Jaguar was on the list for most reliable vehicles up there with Honda, Infiniti, Lincoln etc. I can't remember whose list it was.

These jags are great,fast as hell ,smooth as hell sexy as hell and u plenty of room and real fucking wood it own the freeway haven't had no problems after 5 yrs nuff said!

@talldude123 Yeah, but where do you think they got it from? They used a Jaguar engine in the Explorer at one time too but it doesn't mean it was made by ford, just used by them lol

the Vandan Plas does get the same but its the average MPG on that model and not the whole range of the XJ8

I hve a 2000 jaguar xj vander plas v8 and it keeps saying gearbox default it reverse just find but it starts to struggle when putting it in drive
You have the ZF 5hp24 transmission. Before it blows, have the transmission pressure regulator replaced. Inexpensive to do before it blows, very expensive after.

@bobbyfishstick5 It sounds like a good idea, but it would never be the same. You have to purchase it Spindrift white with the ivory interior to get the same effect. I am selling my 98 Vanden Plas Xj8 in cashmere to purchase one in white right now. Wish me luck!
Timeless elegance for the privileged few, although in today's crazy market conditions, one is probably able to buy real treasures like these, on very reasonable terms.

@saabkyle04 Yeah but I have seen almost every video you've made for the past year and almost every but Jaguars have exhaust clips, and Jaguars are cars known for a good exhaust note. Don't get me wrong, I'm probably one of your biggest fans and am not trying to be mean about it, just hoping if you see enough of us that do have a care of the exhaust note you may have more the reason to film it.
My ford focus uses the same key You know that Jaguar was the only ford product in the USA that offered that style key, Ford Motor Company USA thought that they would loose Jaguar sales if they made the same key standard on all Ford Cars sold in the USA
Damn jag has come such a long way in a few short years. They went from making grandpa cruisers like this to some of the sexiest cars on the road.

@talldude123 Ford is no longer involved, and even when they were they did not make much parts for Jags, they actually took alot of the Jag's technology and features into Ford branded vehicles.
