For 1100 dollars you could just park it and sit in the back seat watching DVDs! Amazing, what a result, what a car.
The u shifter ?? That's the J gate ! Looks great JR, thanks for the video !
In my Jeremy Clarkson voice "That's a proper JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAG."
“2004 rich” is my absolute favorite era of Euro luxury. I had a 2006 750Li for several years and loved it. It was a hell of an endeavor to bring it back from all the neglect and deferred service, but man, what a car. Keep this stuff coming!
Three days ago: We aren't buying cheap cars anymore
Today: Let me show you this $1100 Jag
....all about the views
'junk' cars, he said. diferent kind of cheap ;)
I have no idea what the direction of this channel is now.
He's no longer buying cars he has no interest in just to flip
@@Tyler-vv2vp it was a joke
I had a 2004 XJ8 in 2010. It lowered itself 10mm once you hit like 60mph. Great car man.
My xj8 had a transmission fault too - took it to Jag if Wichita and they added 1pt of fluid and upgraded the software. Never had another issue.
One of the best designs ever, not a bad angle on it..
Hit the lock button twice to fold the mirrors in. It should have auto leveling headlights as well, should cycle when you turn the key on. I've had my 2004 XJR for 11 years now and its been an awesome car.
The j shifter keeps you from shifting into reverse when you're manual is shifting the car on the highway. I did this with my 1984 XJ Vanden Plas on Motorway in England. Actually turned the motor over backward and the oil pressure gauge went to negative. Unfortunately the oil pressure gauge never worked again after that. Fortunately I didn't hurt the engine and drove it for years after. that is the purpose of the j shifter.
Cannot believe it, gone through all the comments, and only found 1 whinge BAG.I love Jags, had my first in 72, l am now 82, and still driving an XJ6. In all l'v had 7. Makes a refreshing change to read so many Americans liking the Jags. Keep Safe 🙌 Love to America
Older Jags are so cool!
JR, I love your content. But the way you pronounce Avatar is physically painful to listen to.
And Plas (and budnz)
I'm from the UK. And the way Americans say Tesla plaid really winds me up. They say plad. It's clearly not plad.
@@jliscorpio beat me to it
How do you pronounce plaid if not plad?@@shiTthebed86
But extra bonus points for correctly pronouncing pièce de résistance.
Double tap the lock button on the remote. This deadlocks the car and makes the mirrors fold in when that feature is activated. I have an XJR, same year as this. Great cars.
Hey JR! Landon here, so I’m familiar with this car because a classmate of mines dad had this car and listed for sale because it was having issues so glad your saving it!
Greatest iteration of the AJ V8 which basically spanned this entire generation of XJ, which doesn’t eat timing chains. Just wish they had done more with the wheels… the Super V8 5 spokes (basically the Vanden Plas plus S/C) are gorgeous
Sepang
Also Callisto are gorgeous
Hey JR, you should do a complete Fleet update during this transition period , to see what’s staying and what’s going.
Thanks!!
Good find, JR.❤. Those XJs are so comfortable. I have an XK8 in our fleet, but want an XJ for the extra seats and a little more comfort.
My grandfather had an 87 Vanden Plas. He drove it every day to metropolitan VA from southern MD for years. I learned how to drive in that car. It was the epitome of cool to me as a kid. I actually cried a little when he sold it… even though it was horribly broken at the time. I would have loved to have that car and learned how to fix it. One day, I will have a car like this… and every time I drive it, I’ll think of my “Pop.”
I have a 2006 VDP in the same spec with the rear entertainment too. Mine being an 07 it’s the LWB. Love it, true elegance. You have to double click the fob for auto fold.
Great video John, cant wait to see you work on it. Thats is a real lovely car. 👍👍👍
My jaw still on the ground floor ever since you showed the aux connectors for PS2 or Nintendo 64.... I'm still flabbergasted
Just sold my XJR it had the same thing
Cool video, J gate… brought back lots of memories, I worked at jag/ rover dealership during this period… these were really nice rides back in the day
Cant wait for the next video on this car! This is why I love WatchJRGo
Its not a "U" Shifter - its a "J-Gate" so sorry a pedantic Brit in in the UK JR
What a beautiful and elegant car...now imagine if it was the deep emerald green!! I can't wait to see it back on the road and hear that engine roar!!
Na, dark green, British racing green.
@@blackcountrymeI hate the British racing green
I had a 1998 Jaguar XJ8L, British racing green, loved it.
This is 2nd in line to the Super V8. Super V8 has all the options of the Vanden Plan + the supercharger from the XJR.
Looks it has everything expect the phone and adaptive cruise control. They're excellent cars. $1100 is great for only needing a new trans.
Thank you for the tour. I "oohed" at brief glimpse of a XJR. Now I know what the insides are like.
I had the same exact car except mine was a gorgeous Portofino blue with a tan interior. The coolant overflow tanks fail all the time and they’re prone to vacuum leaks, so et your smoke tester ready! A truly magnificent car. The higher gear shift circuits go bad and a little research will tell you that the transmission is a ZF model used in numerous vehicles. Mercedes will charge you $15K, Jaguar will charge you $8500. I forget which regular car has the same unit but you can find out easily.
Absolutely love the idea of ditching the old junk cars and getting old-school luxury vehicles! I also appreciate having a video to watch every day!!! Keep up the great work
LOVE THAT THING! Big Jag fan man here. Bumper + PDR for hail damage + transmission + bumper.... and then cruise away!!!
For the power folding mirrors you may need to disassemble them and lubricate the gears inside. Overtime the grease inside tends to dry up and that often attributes to them not operating properly.
We've seen you get excited by a newly bought car before, but dude, you were gushing. It was fun to go along with you and get just as excited.
On the xj8 and XJR double press the fob lock to fold the mirrors. I have the 04 xjr equipped inside exactly like yours only have 80090 miles
Thw auto fold only works if you hit the lock button twice quickly... it's a feature too save the motors from over use... I have a 2006 VDP... LOVE this car! you made a great buy.
More Jag content! Heck yeah!
That back seat entertainment is unreal
play Unreal Tournament 2004 and it is unreal unreal 2004 2004. :)
Hey John Ross my grandfather back in 2007 purchased a 2006 Jaguar XJ8 Sovereign gold with a beige leather interior. It was his daily driver up until 2014 because the air suspension broke so you might wanna take a look at that on this one to see if it’s good or not. That’s a common failure on these X350s
I had a 2004 XJ6 in the UK. Soooo relaxing, quick enough, decent economy. Great car
Love seeing your excitement with this cool older car.
Excellent purchase! super content!
19:02 When the car is unlocked you have to press the lock button twice and it will make the mirrors fold automatically as long as you have that setting selected in the system
Cool car JR! People will always be interested in jag content and rotaries.
If it doesn’t have Bluetooth (phone only) fitted you can add it under the console. I added it to my 2004 VDP and it worked perfectly. Check the manual to see about pairing first.
Nice Jaaag.
The rear center console is really cool. You can never have too many buttons and lights. The green display color on the head unit
and rear console controls definitely reminds me of the old Alpine, back when Alpine was really good. I started using Alpine in
probably the late 70's, early 80's. They made some incredible equipment back in the day. I've still got a early head units in the
original boxes that I sent to Alpine and had them serviced so they would be ready to go if I decide to use them...
It's insane how much more loaded this is than the 2003 Mercury LSE I just bought. This is crazy!!
Slick deal brother! Nice find.
I thought for sure it would be an '04 Mercury Cougar....
[Well, he said there was a cat in the logo]
🤣 Great video!
Why the hell did you say "Avatar" like that?😟
This audio system needs the "SANDSTORM" test to ensure total bliss!
Whoa touchscreen 😲🤘🏽🔥In 2004? Niceeeee!
stunning automobile glad you are fixing her
Awesome video. I’m been watching since the limo days.
The 6cd changer is Alpine in every Jaguar. I like how people used to look down jaguar cars as outdated meanwhile they hold thoes technologies what you did not find in other luxury brands cars like touch screen navigation from 2002, electric park break.
It looks a lot like the Clarion unit in my 2006 Ford.
That is probably J004 which was a recall for a range of 2004 and 2005 MY cars (G00584 - G49700) to update the Engine Control Module and in some cases the Transmission Control Module as well:
Hopefully the 4.2 already has the updated timing set, that was right about the changeover time. The first few years of that transmission tended to suffer early failure between solenoid failure or the bushings that would wear crazy fast. I'm just glad they got it figured out before my 2011 was built because I really don't want to fix it if mine goes bad.
Wow, what a great deal on that car. Looking forward to see you getting it running.
JR, congrats on the new ride and super price. Needs a little love and care. Nice color too.
Drove this kind of car with 3.0l diesel. Awesome car and performance with superb fuel economy.
Ooh A Vanden Plas!!! 😍
My favorite generation of Jaguar sedan. It even has auto wipers.
Very nice purchase. This car was loved and well maintained
Fixing or parting, either way probably a win, watching now 👍😊
Oh I'm fixing this one 🍻
Yeah I posted early and now it's clear what the plan is. Good thing about parting cars is you might just have the parts for one that's worth fixing to sell yourself or keep because it is awesome and dirt cheap. I used to specialize in older Mopar A bodies so I always have spare misc parts for them. I just have the Dart now, but my driver is a 06 Charger RT with 96k now, much faster than the Dart was.
These are such awesome and beautiful cars. I know ford still had some partnership with jag. So i see a few ford parts still such as the coolant tank and power steering reservoir. I believe some of the engine parts were the same as well. Good score JR !
you finally bought something i like
Nice ride!
Shame about the hail damage. Needs some PDR.
Likely a Salvage title because of the hail too?
Standard equipment Kansas. Dealer basically sells at a markup without dents.
Hi the steering wheel button adjustment you can chose pedals and adjust the distances on the floor pedals quite unique even today
Those jaquar's just look so luxury, a dreamcar for sure. Great find hehe Big Up!
finally, a great JR project.
And don't forget about another cool feature in your Jaguar.. the pedals (the break and acceleration pedals) are adjustable, you can adjust them from the same button which adjust the steering wheel. Good luck with your project.
Hopefully the Brake pedal didn't Break.
Wow the nostalgia! I remember turning 21 and working hard to be able to buy my 01 S-type 3.0
"Vanden Plaz" lol. ... The French speakers/Belgiums will be reaching for their pitchforks. :)
Belgians... but we get it
Sorry meant French speakers, now corrected, thanks@@tedsmart5539
@tedsmart5539 it's definitely not French
Belgiums and Francers
Shouldn't it be pronounced "wun-dan-pluz" or so?
Whoa amazing deal! And it's a clean machine!
Pleeeeease show us every step of the restoration!!! This is going to be awesome! Thanks!
In high-school (South East) my best friend for years was Clay Barton. (Yes, his dad is the Frank Barton School of Business at WSU.) One day Clay showed up at my house having borrowed his dad's V12 Jaguar and we took a joyride. It was not fast but so smooth and quiet (327 V12 I think.) From then on I have loved and owned three used ones and want another today.
P.S- Its not a U-shifter, its a J-gate for Jaguar.
Excited to see this striped down! lets get to it.
JR love the Jaguar
Nice Ford you bought there, JR!
Nice car!👍
Mother in law has had 2 XJ's and I marveled at how such a giant car could have such a tight interior. I'm 6'3" and had to hold my head to the side while driving.
That’s the reason I sold my S type R. Beautiful interior but no leg room. I’m 6’2. Back seat wasn’t usable. 😂
Awesome to see another fixer-upper and a lovely car this, to boot.
Can’t wait to see this parted out lol
A car with 'tech-throwback' credentials! Two channels rolled into one ;)
That's so cool 🔥🤘🏽
This one's definitely been babied, suspect the tech has barely been used. What a bargain ! good luck Jon 🤘
Those blank buttons next to heated seats are for cooled seats. Red light turns to blue light. For the perforated seats though.
Great car. Had four including a fully optioned Super V8. Will have another.
I know you don't like working on the Jags in the past but this is nice! Thank you.
4.2 Engine was a great engine. Next 5.0 was good as well. My dad was a Jaguar man. He had 2 coupes. Last one he had was a XKR in green with fawn interior.
I’d be up,to buying this once you are finished enjoying it, JR.. ty
Great stuff
Imagine if the original owner would’ve invested the 80k in nvidia stock in 04 instead
‘04 was the first year of the new all aluminum chassis, but was also the only year the Vanden Plas was on the standard wheelbase car. All other years were long wheelbase cars with tons of rear seat legroom. It also lost the folding tray tables for this year only. To me those made the car. Some little known facts about your car though are the light wood inlay strips in the burl panels is Rosewood and exclusive to the VDP. Regular XJS didn’t have that. The Jaguar lettering in the dash is real gold inlay also. If the walnut panels are the originals, they are booked making the right and left door panels mirrored to each other. The dashboard panels are booked to each other as well. My only disappointment with this generation of XJ is that the fuel fill location was moved to side from the deck top where it should be, and the bonnet opens from the wrong direction. Great car my friend at an unbelievable price.
When you said 2004 ultra luxury , definition of rich and it had a cat in the name, of course I thought of a Mercury Cougar LOL.... JK
I’m glad this is still a hooptie Jag not a 2022 Jag!!!
This is great! Affordable luxery
You can tell a Kansas Jag by the hailstone damage...
I had an 06 xjr that same color. God I loved it and it was fast for a big heavy car.
Gotta love a Jag ...
I'm excited for this one. I've owned a 6 and an 8 and they were just great cars to drive.
