I love how they go first-person when Kratos is beating Zeus. Throwback to GoW III where you can beat Zeus for literally as long as you keep pressing circle. The little callbacks here and there to the old games are done really well

Can you guys imagine how heartbreaking it would have been if, instead of showing this memory of Kratos killing Zeus, it showed Kratos killing Lyshandra and Caliope, his wife and kid? I honestly wished we could have seen that, because Atreus would have gotten the chance to see a new side of Kratos' character, a man broken by the death and blame of his family. It would also be so interesting to see his reaction. In this scene I find very touching the fact that, despite his surprise and horror, his concern and care for his father is his priority in here.

If you rewatch the scene in gow3 where Kratos rushes at Zeus and then slams him against a rock, Kratos paused for a few seconds and he sees this black mist leave Zeus's mouth, After that happend Zeus went back to normal because Kratos somehow beat the Feat out of Zeus and Zeus was free Zeus could have fixed everything and Apologize for what he has done to Kratos, but Kratos didn't know that until after he killed his Father Athena told him after he opened the box it was kinda his fault all the Gods went Corrupted then Athena tells Kratos that the only reason Zeus did what he did to Kratos was because of the Evil Fear that was corrupting Zeus and after Kratos realised that i reckon he would have regretted what he did to his Father...

the sad thing about Kratos speech to his son about “being the gods they choose to be instead of the once that have been” is that ultimately destiny always gets in the way of that. In Norse mythology Loki is not just some Deviant characters in the books and stories, he’s the bringer of the End Days known as Ragnarok. His destiny is to destroy the Norse gods and basically cause the end of the world. Atreus may follow in his fathers footsteps very soon...
You also have to remember though that at the end of the game Mimir tells Kratos that they've brought on Ragnarok 100 years earlier than expected. Sure Ragnarok is still going to happen, but it proves that Kratos and Atreus still have changed fate somehow, probably has something to do with Atreus technically being the grandchild of a god from a different mythology

Then wore his boots to run fast myself." "I had a half-brother who was 10ft tall mountain of muscle. Then I beat the ever living shit out of him and turned his face to mash." "I killed the god of underworld of my realm and then ate his soul with his own blades." I can almost see the expression Atreus would have after listening all the crazy shit his dad tells.

Probably not the *last* thing he'd want him to see, I imagine he'll find out the one thing he likely never wants Atreus to know in the sequel one way or another. This was probably right below that, though, in terms of severity.
The reference in itself is amazing on its own, but it really hit the right amount of feels when Atreus goes to snap Kratos out of his tortured trance at the mere sight of him beating Zeus to death, and that was a first person shot too. If there was any way to truly distinguish Kratos then from now, it would be here. When you look at these first person views side by side, you can see that Kratos doesn’t let up for a moment and the player can only ever see his fists when they are being thrown into the body of the King of the Gods. Then, we get to the first person shot where Atreus is holding his hands and trying to snap him out of it, and those same hands are fully visible and unclenched wish shake and regret. I could just be talking out of my ass here, but this particular moment is just extremely beautiful to me.

When Atreus asked Kratos what it means to be a god, and whether it'll always end in death, I was smiling so much because I can't imagine Kratos dying to Atreus
You underestimate how crafty Loki can be. If not through brute force, he could definitely kill Kratos by using his trust as a father against him, catching him completely off guard. He is also definitely smart enough to break Kratos's immortality curse, or heck, even trap his soul in a rock or something to make sure he can't come back.
The way the camera work is done is great, i love how they switch to first person to show as if kratos is re-living the memory, whilst it goes back to third person to show atreus- perspective of what he's witnessing
I absoloutly love the scene of kratos beating zeus. So much wrath and power going into every single hit, like he drives all that raw power from his anger. Like hes imagining his fists going tnrough zeus with each hit
The 2018 God of War did so well of copying the same move sets of Kratos attacking his dad, down to using Kratos’ first person view, from looking at his dad as he beaten to death in 3 to looking at Atreus as he tries to get his dad to focus.
Atreus was a boss for taking the lead and saving them when Kratos was so distrassed that he couldn't move, and even more for letting the guy be when it was clear that he was still shocked from the event.
Personally, I love that Santa Monica chose to punctuate Kratos’s speech about “we must be better” with Freya holding Baldur. That accusatory look on her face underscores the question that hasn’t been voiced, if this is really the better way. The storytelling is just 👌*chefs kiss*

One of the things that went over my head, Kratos lay his hands on his dad with hate and rage while Atreus lay his hands on his dad with love and concern.
What a lot of people may not understand is just how serious killing your own father is in greek lore. Basically, two of the worst things you could ever do are Sleeping with your mother and killing your father. Kratos knows this, being brought up greek. Even if it was justified, kratos feels great shame for killing zeus.

The way the camera work is done is great, i love how they switch to first person to show as if kratos is re-living the memory, whilst it goes back to third person to show atreus- perspective of what he's witnessing

The 2018 God of War did so well of copying the same move sets of Kratos attacking his dad, down to using Kratos’ first person view, from looking at his dad as he beaten to death in 3 to looking at Atreus as he tries to get his dad to focus.

Atreus was a boss for taking the lead and saving them when Kratos was so distrassed that he couldn't move, and even more for letting the guy be when it was clear that he was still shocked from the event.
Making Kratos an actually interesting and likable character required some 150000/10 writing and this game pulled it off

Personally, I love that Santa Monica chose to punctuate Kratos’s speech about “we must be better” with Freya holding Baldur. That accusatory look on her face underscores the question that hasn’t been voiced, if this is really the better way. The storytelling is just 👌*chefs kiss*

She's biased, regardless of the situation of his birth, Baldur was her son and she loved him. I don't know about you but if someone killed my son or any member of the family, even if there was a world saving reason behind it, I wouldn't see them as a "good" guy

This was the first game I actually didn’t loath Kratos’ character. GoW4 was a masterpiece
One of the things that went over my head, Kratos lay his hands on his dad with hate and rage while Atreus lay his hands on his dad with love and concern.

What a lot of people may not understand is just how serious killing your own father is in greek lore.
Basically, two of the worst things you could ever do are Sleeping with your mother and killing your father.
Kratos knows this, being brought up greek. Even if it was justified, kratos feels great shame for killing zeus.
