Good luck Derek. As a ranger fan, I can proudly say my '98 4x4 has 432,000 miles on the 4.0 and is still going. Sure, she smokes a smidge on start-up, but it just won't die. Best little truck I have ever owned.😎
I had a 91 Ranger 5 speed with the 2.3ltr inline 4 and that was one hell of an engine tranny combo. It wasn't fast, it didn't have tons of power and you needed a stiff wind at your back to pass anyone but it did get 30+ miles per gallon. it had just over 500,000 miles on it before my brother got it hot and blew it up. That was the 2nd vehicle it let him borrow and he blew up, the first was my Black Cherry 96 crown vic police interceptor. He had it for a month and i told him to check the oil every week and he didn't, got a call that the motor was making a banging noise then it just stopped. Locked that fucker up tighter than shit.
I got a '93 Ranger (4.0L 5 Speed) with 414,000 miles on it. Sat for 6 years after an offroading incident with a boulder boogered up the front end. This year I finally had the time AND money to rebuild the whole front end, all new parts except the twin I-beams. Derek's videos inspired me to do everything myself. But just like you said, these engines will last forever if ya treat em right. Best trucks ever made.

The video he did on preparing Lawsuit for the Duct Tape Drags has a pretty good view of the shop. You can see a lot of the cars tucked in the corner and up on lifts for storage.
Hey Derek, thank you for the early video. Just a quick thought about your new seat, you could try zip tying a couple of pool noodles on the inside of the seat (one on each side) to stop you from moving so much. Just a thought 💭.😃

I have a 1987 ranger show truck with a 2.0 with a 456 lift cam shaft with a 350 holly carb and a headmen header runs ok . Love that you put time into a ranger most people don’t love your show really inspiring

I used to be a crew member at the local circle track for two race teams for five years. and I have a little tip for you that will help a lot in the handling department. I'm sure you have heard of a little thing called tire stagger. it's where you air up all the tires to maximum air pressure leave them sit for about an hour. then take a sewing tape measure and measure the diameter of the tires. and then put the largest diameter tire on the right front. and if you have a locked rear end put the next largest tire on the right rear. and put the smallest diameter tire on the left rear. and whatever you have left on the left front. it will make the car turn left by it self. it like taking a paper cup and setting it's side and rolling if. you have an unlocked rear end reverse the stagger in the rear, give it a try.

I've had two Ford Rangers, both Supercab, 4.0L V6, one auto XLT 4X4, one 5-speed XL 2WD. Loved both. They were one year model apart, but bought ten years apart.

Rooting for the 4.0 OHV, the one in my old Explorer is at 240k with no problems. Pretty cool to see what I drive daily under the hood in one of Derek's videos!
that old Cologne-based 4.0 is a good one. I drove one to 210K in my '95 Explorer without doing anything more than oil changes, plugs/wires and one belt tensioner.
I'm in full support of him and I've been watching the channel for a long time and I'm so happy for his success in life and how well his wife and his kids and everybody is doing in his family I don't know the dude personally face to face but I watch his videos would like to meet him one day and learn some tricks from him he's very smart from what I've gathered from all the videos and history that I've watched
I can't see those tires lasting very long without getting cut from contact. I would've followed cleetus' strategy and just put new sticky nitto tires that are radials and tougher and stand the best that'll last the 60 laps. I doubt the ranger is gonna be able to perform good enough for these tires to really shine. I hope he survives the race though cuz I love seeing guys like him win!

I've have my 03 w/ 3.0 v6 and 5 speed that my dad bought brand new that now has just under 180k miles and it has done everything I have ever asked of...that includes everything from driving through water halfway up the doors to burnouts to hauling a backhoe on a 3 axle trailer once (that one kinda had a guy worried but it did it)

A buddy of mine ran oval track in a 72 Nova years ago. He had tall 15's on the right and low 14's on the left. He could nearly let go of the wheel in the corners. Had to hold on in the straight though.
That cage is so well done I wouldn't remove it with the way people drive today it would be a extra layer of safety for you and a passenger when driving around on the street without getting in the way. I love watching your builds so well thought out.

Had Ford made a Ranger with the 4.6 liter V8 they would have had themselves one bad ass little truck. The 2000-05 4x4 Rangers with the step side is one of my favorite trucks from that era they are just under powered but that V8 would have made them a monster.

An old pushrod 5.0L drops right in. Pretty easy swap, considering the 90’s era Explorer was the same chassis up front as a Ranger, and came with a 5.0 as an option.
I’ve said this once and I’ll say it again. Whenever you’re done with it, wrecked or not, I’ll give you every penny I have and everything I own for it. This is a dream truck. I’d probably daily it for the rest of my life. 😍😍.

I loved driving my 98 xlt around. That thing was slow but she drove like a tank and never faltered. A farmer picked it up off us and I think she still runs and hauls hay around for them lol I miss that thing!
I'm with a fella there. That is too sweet a rig to tear up on a track but it its the best set up for it as far as a stock ranger goes. It would be cool to show up with a mini stock ranger and run that track though.
That is the most pristine and the cleanest 98 Ford Ranger I have ever seen my dad has had a 95 since 95 and a 98 since 98 and his are not even this clean he used them as pickups should be used hauling very nice Derek @ViceGripGarage

Rooting for the 4.0 OHV, the one in my old Explorer is at 240k with no problems. Pretty cool to see what I drive daily under the hood in one of Derek's videos!
that old Cologne-based 4.0 is a good one. I drove one to 210K in my '95 Explorer without doing anything more than oil changes, plugs/wires and one belt tensioner.
I'm in full support of him and I've been watching the channel for a long time and I'm so happy for his success in life and how well his wife and his kids and everybody is doing in his family I don't know the dude personally face to face but I watch his videos would like to meet him one day and learn some tricks from him he's very smart from what I've gathered from all the videos and history that I've watched

The cover isn't just good for aerodynamics, the weight helps keep the rear tires planted while everybody else is spinning off the track
I thought the same thing. I had an 89 Ranger (Deathmobile Edition) and I kept sandbags in the bed year round for traction.
I can't see those tires lasting very long without getting cut from contact. I would've followed cleetus' strategy and just put new sticky nitto tires that are radials and tougher and stand the best that'll last the 60 laps. I doubt the ranger is gonna be able to perform good enough for these tires to really shine. I hope he survives the race though cuz I love seeing guys like him win!

Makes me homesick for my old 86 Ranger supercab. The only vehicle I ever purchased brand new. Man that looks so BOSS with those wheels and tires....I want one!!!!

I think that in the future DR9K race trucks should be allowed to be lowered. They just sit too high and are unstable compared to the Crown Vics.
He got back in the race and was still running at the end. It's not a FF race until someone gets on their roof.

I've have my 03 w/ 3.0 v6 and 5 speed that my dad bought brand new that now has just under 180k miles and it has done everything I have ever asked of...that includes everything from driving through water halfway up the doors to burnouts to hauling a backhoe on a 3 axle trailer once (that one kinda had a guy worried but it did it)

He had tall 15's on the right and low 14's on the left.
He could nearly let go of the wheel in the corners.
Had to hold on in the straight though.

That cage is so well done I wouldn't remove it with the way people drive today it would be a extra layer of safety for you and a passenger when driving around on the street without getting in the way. I love watching your builds so well thought out.
Only problem with that is you bounce your head off the tube when you get hit.

Had Ford made a Ranger with the 4.6 liter V8 they would have had themselves one bad ass little truck. The 2000-05 4x4 Rangers with the step side is one of my favorite trucks from that era they are just under powered but that V8 would have made them a monster.
Yeah...if they'd have put a Pratt & Whitney J58 in the truck it would have been even faster. I'm mean if you're making fantasy claims, go all the way...
An old pushrod 5.0L drops right in. Pretty easy swap, considering the 90’s era Explorer was the same chassis up front as a Ranger, and came with a 5.0 as an option.

I loved driving my 98 xlt around. That thing was slow but she drove like a tank and never faltered. A farmer picked it up off us and I think she still runs and hauls hay around for them lol I miss that thing!
I'm with a fella there. That is too sweet a rig to tear up on a track but it its the best set up for it as far as a stock ranger goes. It would be cool to show up with a mini stock ranger and run that track though.
Mini stock ranger with a all aluminum esslinger 2.5 liter 10,000 rpm 4 cylinders of hell. They would not know what hit them.

That is the most pristine and the cleanest 98 Ford Ranger I have ever seen my dad has had a 95 since 95 and a 98 since 98 and his are not even this clean he used them as pickups should be used hauling very nice Derek @ViceGripGarage
