Do you think it's an issue that the apes are selling for so much now? The original buyers who bought because of their love of the idea and artwork will be gone - the community will be rich ppl, or collectors who won't interact with the other members. Or maybe they will - just thinking out loud.
The vast majority of the apes I speak to every day are people who bought early and never sold. Those that choose to sell are getting life changing money for them. I totally get your comment and it's definitely changed things, but overall I think it's a positive. The team now released mutants to try to get more affordable club membership out there as an example of new ways to change that.
@@MattBorchert cool - thanks for the reply. Good idea on the mutants too. The realist in me sees this as a bit like dogecoin - needing constant input of gimmicks to keep it alive. But the real OGs will stick with it, and I hope it becomes something really interesting.
@@ifwecouldvote Blue chip projects like apes don't rely on gimmicks in the slightest. Just an incredible team working 12 hour days, every day, to deliver value to holders. That being said, plenty of trashy low effort projects out there too. Those are actually the majority. Apes are pieces of history now.
@@MattBorchert That's great - I didn't really get what the developers are working on, or have released so far in terms of value add - maybe that's something I need to research further, but it all seems very vague to me at the moment.

Like any market things are worth what someone is willing to pay. You also own the IP and thus own part of a brand that has made incredible sales. Major celebrities and brands like Adidas are involved. Ultimately it's up to individuals to decide what they think something is worth and the market will do the rest.

Are all NFTs randomly generated? How do they do it? Algorithm?
yes. different layers are randomly added. e.g. a mouth layer (with maybe 10 different types of mouth - 1 is randomly chosen), an 'eye' layer etc. etc.

I am new to all this and educating myself. Two questions: If an NFT has perks like access to an event - where would these perks be visible? And where does communication with NFT holders happen? Where would I discover such announcement?
Currently, and I assume this will change over time, the vast majority of projects communicate through their discord servers.
Most of their websites will explain the benefits of owning the NFT. That being said, discord is typically the most up to date and accurate source of information, often in the announcements channel.
@@MattBorchert Thank you. Seems like as an NFT holder there is little documentation that the specific NFT include those perks. I would have thought it would somehow be minted.

I would suggest looking for unique projects with new visions instead of those attempting to replicate prior success of other projects.

How does a computer generate them? I don’t understand how are they made?
An artist (or in this case a group of artists) drew these by individual traits. Then the traits were randomly combined to make the final output.

Recently bought a BAKC as a low-risk play into the ecosystem. The Discord is the best and most welcoming I’ve seen. Question- since BAYC provides IP rights to holders, will BAYC profit from derivative projects? HAPE comes to mind.

You cannot unless you have permission from the ape owner of the ape you're using. :)

@@UhaiSoftware You can't pick and choose traits, you have to work with the traits a given ape has, although you can heavily customize the ape. That's part of why 4 trait apes (very simple) are extremely valuable. Easy to modify. Permission will depend on who owns the ape and what your intent is and what the ape owner gets (if anything).

The apes were "minted" or sold a few months back. No new apes will exist, but you can purchase existing apes off of OpenSea.

@@BennyJ504 Platforms like OpenSea or Rarible allow you to mint directly on them. To do a project this complex, you'll want to work with a developer who is familiar with the process if you don't know how. It's beyond my scope of knowledge.

Solid. Market is in a strong bear, but there is so much happening with intense potential. That being said, the level of expectation is incredibly high and it's going to be incredibly difficult to deliver on that expectation. Only time can tell.

Right now the biggest options tend to be physical products looking for illustrations. Skateboards, craft breweries, I've even seen ice cream. Beyond that people are using them for branding, characters that are then animated, etc etc.

The owner of the IP could come after you if they wanted. Many ape owners are happy to work with people making products using their apes, I'd suggest asking people in the BAYC Discord for collaboration interest.
