This video is focused on the Bored Ape Yacht Club as well as the rise of Web 3.0 and metaverses. I'll cover a brief history of the BAYC and the insane rise that has occurred over the past several months. Then I'll go over where things are heading, what roadmap 2.0 is, and how the apes will potentially grant you tokens that are ownership of everything the BAYC team does.
I understand that the NFT space can seem wild and difficult to come to terms with (especially the prices), but I did my best to outline my viewpoints and why all of this will absolutely change the way we interact with technology forever. Hold on, it's going to be a wild ride. :)

Hey what’s a “serum” please @7:26 😩 the one that converts the ape into a mutant or am I understanding wrong?
If you own an original ape and use the serum on it, a matching mutant is created. You keep the original ape and then gain the mutant too. :)

Hey, I just learned about NFT's yesterday from sumone I met yesterday. But u and your video have just made me understand what's really going on. This is interesting ND exciting. I want an app so badly. But what's even more I want to design apes in hoping to breakthrough in that way I'm soooooo stoked about what I know so little about. Or maybe just getting stamped into sumthn or make an impact into the meta ND make my mark. It seems that owning an app in the bayc is not reachable at this time. So I will need to find a back door way in or a stowaway so 2 speak. Lol but I love your video it made me understand much more wuts going on I subbed, liked, ND shared u. Thx

Is it bad to have more than one art style in your OpenSea account? I have abstract art listed, but would also like to create profile characters. Is it confusing or a turn off to buyers?

@Alan John yes, I understood about NFT and it's based on blockchain to prove uniqueness by giving it a certain value.
Good video Matt. I have a question: Where did BAYC says you possess the rights? In a legal doc? in the smart contract? in their web page?
I believe it's on the website and it's also in the FAQ section of the Discord that outlines all of the rights out. Basically you own the likeness of your ape completely, but cannot use the BAYC logo or the text "Bored Ape Yacht Club." Although if your ape has a "merch" hat or clothing, you can show the logo or BAYC text on your ape since it's on the ape. Hopefully that makes sense. Merch apes sell for a decent premium price because of that.

Can you comment on the Tron version? Is it a copy? I own 3 mutants in the Tron network, but I’m confused since they seem to be a copy of the ones in Ethereum…
They're fakes, the only real ones are on ETH.

Congrats Manny! Join the BAYC Discord, that's your best source of information. There isn't currently an MAYC merch drop happening, but more will happen in the future and your mutant will get you in. There is a game challenge starting right now, so on the Discord in Announcements you can check if your mutant claimed a game code or not yet. If it has, I'd contact support to see if they can help.

So if you have your nfts on metamask or phantum, you just need to send it to the hardwallet and youre good?
This is correct. A hardware wallet makes sure your private keys never leave the hardware wallet, keeping them much more secure. They will create new addresses though, so you'll have to move your NFTs to those new addresses which will require gas. That's why it's best (IMO) to get a hardware wallet early and always use it.

What's your take on officially licensed nft's/collectables? Like veve
Just furthers the reality that most corporate entities will join in.
Those will become immensely huge as brands enter more and more into digital worlds. The revenue those projects drive will change the business model of many. I haven't really used Veve so I can't comment too much there, but there will be a big difference from brands that put in little effort and those that really make it a creative focus, so look out for the differences.

The artwork of Gorillaz is amazing, but I think it's fair to say both the artwork and intent of the project are dramatically different here.

Yes, as you skipped over the whole tokenomics section where apes will become partial owners of the brand. Core utility in the play to earn blockchain game. People pay more for golf club memberships, I know prices may seem extreme, but they're what the market determined. Remember that apes originally cost about $300.
18:27 that is not how every market in the history of the world has worked. Most markets actually don’t operate in this way. If i buy a pair of shoes, with the intent to sell for profit, and no one buys them, i can still wear them. That is the intrinsic value. Products usually have underlying intrinsic value, coupled with an arbitrary mark up. He is not wrong for highlighting that youre buying digital art that has zero intrinsic value. Such as artwork in the real world, if you aren’t buying $10k+ paintings, you probably would never understand.
The events and experiences you are able to enjoy are the intrinsic value of owning these apes. Which should have been your rebuttal
Except the apes have tangible benefits. They operate as membership into the club which has benefits. Many of which are outlined in this video. Future benefits include fractional ownership of the brand, just like a stock. If you're comparing these to paintings, you haven't dug in deep enough yet.

It's a way to prove digital ownership without the need for a centralized company. I made a video explaining NFTs with 6 different use case examples, I suggest watching it.
@Matt Borchert I just can't help but think it's a fad that'll eventually die off. I mean who cares who actually owns something if you can just see or hear a copy of it verbatim online. I have heard of people putting their deeds for their homes on nft. I have heard someone got married and the ring was an nft (they got married in decentraland) I'm wondering how a "digital copywrite" (which to my understanding is what an nft is basiclly) how does that translate from "e-world" to "real-world"? Say the deed on a house or title to a vehicle. How does that help someone? The dmv still needs to record the sale. And the city still needs to have you in their database

If you think of NFTs as just an image, you're really missing the core idea of digital ownership and how that can translate into tangible benefits. You need to think well beyond the current state of the world and look at where it will be in 10 years. 20 years. 50 years. Those centralized databases will be replaced, in many cases, by decentralized ones. That's the entire point of blockchain networks. Remove single points of failure and distribute them across the world in a way that makes them ultra-secure. It won't be appropriate for everything, but it will change a great many things. Change takes time. Those who learn how to make the most of brand new technologies will gain incredible benefits for doing so. It's how Bill Gates did so well. Steve Jobs. Mark Zuckerberg. Jeff Bezos. It goes on and on. They all built for the future, not the present state.

This is also a business, primarily entertainment. They just released a mobile game and are working on a play to earn blockchain game. Building a physical clubhouse. Hold events. Are transferring membership of the actual brand to the owners of the apes through a DAO. Are working with a world class manager, the same person who manages Madona, to help build out the brand.
Be careful about being selective around how you apply rules, unless you feel that all entertainment businesses are not solving a problem or making a difference.

BAYC is building a very large ecosystem and determined that a larger membership would help populate that. The mutant owners being a ton of value to the brand while also letting people in who were previously priced out. No further membership will be added, however.

So far this is the best explanation I have seen so far, so thanks! It's a club. I did not know you could mutate them and get additional stuff, too. But it does seem to be very much commercial and dependent on whimsy. I'd never be in a club that would have me (GM!), even if I could buy in, but of course I admire those who are accepted.

Why is 5 months considered a short amount of time in the NFT space?
Because they only really took off at the start of 2021 (there are much much older NFTs but they historically gained little traction.) Plus with new technologies time just moves way faster as things change so rapidly.

If you buy an apartment, a chair, a desk, food, a basketball, a pen, a fan, a laptop ... it doesn't matter if somebody wants to buy them from you or not they have their value in their utility already ...
You can live in ur apartment, sit on the chair, eat the food, play with the basketball or sell it to somebody who wants to lol.
BAYC has true utility via the considerable membership benefits.
This was actually really awesome. I'm surrounded by complete naysayers who throw the entire industry out as a scam, so hearing my own thoughts on the matter mirrored and expanded upon so concisely definitely makes me feel a little less crazy. That's an easy sub.

I still fail to see almost any value at all in BAYC. Unless, it seems, your definition of 'value, is 'makes me money'. All your examples of other companies like Nike and Supreme provide value to their consumers with products and services that the consumers want and need. I know BAYC is coming out with merch now, but it's backwards. Nike shoes aren't valuable to me because they have a super-cool swoosh on the side; They're valuable because they let me run without hurting my feet. Investors never would have bought in without the product first.
The 'value' of BAYC is circular. Apes add value by granting access to airdrops of new NFTs, which are only valuable because they came from BAYC. All the games and parties are an afterthought that only came about because of the hype artificially driving up the price (if we're going by that Rolling Stones article).
Does no one else see the issue here?
So I ask: What value do the apes actually add to the world, beyond financial speculation for the people who own them, and is that value truly worth the monetary investment? I know you own the IP, but IP still needs a product behind it other than hype. Once that hype dies down, the value of that IP is gone.
Anyway I hope my tone didn't come off as too hostile. I'm just frustrated that the more I research, the less sense this all makes to me. You seem like a nice person; I hope you don't end up holding the bag too badly.
Yuga is actively building one of the largest metaverses and is backed by a recent $450M a16z investment. Apes are at the center of this and we're already been given free land. Ape Fest is about to happen in NYC and it's going to be huge having been planned for a full year. It's not an afterthought even if it appears that way to you. The games are not an afterthought, they're core to the project. Dig in more into what Yuga is building here - otherside.xyz/obelisk
