    This video covers one of the most insane things I've seen in the past 10 years when it comes to digital artists and digital art sales. The online platform Nifty Gateway offers open edition artwork sales where people can buy art in a 5 to 7 minute window. After that window is closed, no more of that artwork will ever be sold again.
    In those short few minute windows, artists are generating hundreds of thousands to millions in sales of their NFT artwork. This is forever changing the lives of digital artists, and also in some cases forever changing the lives of people who purchased art that has become insanely valuable in a fairly short period of time. While clearly none of this is financial advice, this is a very interesting and I think important space to be paying attention to right now. We're just at the beginning of seeing what is possible.
    Have any questions about what you've seen in the video? Feel free to leave a comment!

    • @MattBorchert

      I put some stuff on Rarible and I like it. Very easy to use. The Etherium network fees are VERY high right now, but that will probably be the case until ETH 2.0 launches fully. As far as focusing on a platform or being on multiple, I don't think there is a right answer. If I was a very well established artist I'd be putting all of my effort into getting a drop on Nifty Gateway. After that I'd probably focus on Rarible. Makersplace is also super cool but I have minimal experience with it.

    So do you get any physical object for the purchases you made? I saw a video where a person who got the beeple bull received a whole physical ,package. I am confused as to whether it’s random or if you receive a physical object when you purchase (and would an artist selling need to produce all those objects- like beeple did)?

    • @MattBorchert
      @MattBorchert  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Most of them are strictly digital items, but in some cases the NFTs will come with physical items that the artist or marketplace will send out to the purchases. Also, NFTs can be used as a token for denoting who owns a physical piece of art. The technology is crazy versatile in that way, and people are still exploring potential use cases. In the video I showed a piece of art from Trevor Jones where one of the people who purchased the item will win a physical painting that he did. We're at the very beginning of this so it will be interesting to see how people leverage the tech in the future.

    The open window is a poorly thought through format. Thousands of tokens that are the same reduce the collectibility of a piece. Scarcity (because quality is prerequisite) is how these things will accrue value. This market is in a total bubble, and many folks are going to get burnt. This is also harming the future of the tech. I love Beeple (don’t we all) but again, the value of the work is hurt by the relatively large editions. This is akin to having a bad gallery manage your career.

    • @MattBorchert
      @MattBorchert  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree it's an imperfect method. So far my favorite is the raffle / lottery draw, which allows a smaller limit to be set, but also doesn't let the bots snag every single item. If you try to do a small sale of 10 or even 50, I'd have to assume all or nearly every item will go to a bot to be re-sold. It sucks, but that's the way it is right now. I'm not sure of a "perfect" solution, so I mainly look out for raffle drawings at the moment on Nifty.

      I'm seeing a lot of people in this comment section who have no grasp on the concept of NFT's and seem to believe it somehow mutes physical art pieces in reality.
      All NFT's are is unique proof-of-work receipts which we call "certificate of ownership" associate with a particular discrete data set.
      Nothing more, nothing less.
      No, "NFT'izing" your art doesn't mean no one else can "see" it. Yes, you can simply change one pixel by rgb(0,0,1) and it will generate an entirely new NFT. The value is speculative, which is nothing to ignore because speculative markets are entirely legitimate. You still need a backing market authority to verify that the NFT is an "original" or at least the original discrete data set (text, image, video, etc) which people "agree" is the "original", otherwise all you have is a very expensive cryptotransaction. The moment your NFT loses that market-backing you're shit out of luck.

    So the more popular an art is, the more people will buy it, the harder it will be to resell. So you basically have to search for arts which are underappreciated in their first sale.

      They're unique in that you know that they're coming direct from the creator and any attempts to sell fakes will be easily verifiable. That being said, a lot of different NFTs come in limited editions or even sometimes unlimited editions (usually free stuff.) So with the Kobe Bryant one, they sold that for just a few minutes and however many sold are what sold. Now there will be no more of that particular NFT ever made by that artist.

Have you come across any of these platforms that might have an opening in an area like that? I think photography and writing can still be digital art. Anything you can upload as a file with your signature, is a digital art.
      I think the critical factor is building a large fan base over time. Many of these five minute millions came after a decade of daily producing art.

    Liked and subscribed. Thank you for your very informative content. Question, how do each person make up their artwork? Are they taking pictures of paintings that they have drawn?

      Some are created digitally, some are physically made then scanned, some is photography. It's all over the board in terms of what people do.

    Do you have to copyright this art before you put it up on the site , ?

    This can only be a good thing for the art community, right? It's a deep question, but I'm hopeful!

      In my opinion, yes, this can only be a good thing for the artists.

    You’ll have to spend at least 5,000 - 10,000 to get 3D render technology and the shit beeple uses to make NFT art, plus some years of experience behind your back along with a decent approved authentic portfolio. To be able to sell your digital art on a virtual art gallery. Not just anyone can get into it😂 you can of course buy NFT if you have the money, but probably not the best idea. I’m sorry to be blunt but you can’t get extremely rich without hard fucking work for a long time, this would be extremely disrespectful to artist. With this cut and paste shit

      Nifty Gateway is for approved artists only, there is a link on the footer of the website to submit your work for review to them. :)

    Really hard to see the value here. Seems like speculation for the sake of speculation.

      Right now we think primarily about value in the physical world. This will not always be the case, but it will take time.

      @@MattBorchert I understand the value of Bitcoin and other digital assets. I own plenty. But an infinitely reproducible jpeg of video clip that has no functionality?
