I'm a professional trailbuilder and here are some commonly overlooked tools. Sledgehammer; for smashing apart rocks rocks too big to move and compacting soil in tight spaces like posts and in between rocks of rock gardens. Bow rakes; albeit covered in the video but they can be used for tamping soil as well as using the backside of them to grade the trail surface. Pro tip, use the backside of a bow rack in rooty soil while moving material to avoid getting the tines snagged up with roots. Another pro tip is to wrap your bucket handles in a healthy amount of tape so they are actually comfortable to hold.
You left out one very valuable tool. Your neighbors donkey. It can drag beams and logs better than most things and is easily coaxed into doing it with snacks.
For screws, Robertson here in Canada are the best. They pretty much never strip. But they are almost impossible to get in the USA. Side note they were invented and manufactured here in Milton Ontario
If you like the machete try out an italian style roncola or manaresso, it works way much better on thickets (those are meant for that). A machete its more suitable for greener and softer stuff
On your Troybilt tiller the bolt on the shift handle needs to be tightened up a bit if it’s moving on its own and dropping into reverse! Also the spring that keeps the reverse from contacting the pulley is likely missing or weak!
If you can get your hands on one, a plate compactor makes quick work of turning loose, soft dirt into well-packed, durable trail, especially for public trails.
The “Pulaski” in this video is actually a cutter mattock. Pulaskis have a smaller hoe coupled with an true axe blade opposite. Pulaskis are also distinguished by using a narrow axe handle, whereas the mattock has a thicker rounded handle.
Your Pawlowski is weird! I have a regular axhead with a 2 inch wide Mattoc that’s about 3 inches long. That Matic looks more like what you see on a pic Mattoc.

Great tips, thank you!
Never thought I would watch a video about trail tools... yet here I am... haha

You missed two very neccessary tools for trail building: a mini-excavator and good buddies.
Sawzall with a limb trimming blade for trimming trees and cutting out roots.
Nicely put together video sir.
Definitely one of, if not the best presented lists I've seen in a long time.
The funk backing track was also super.
Wow. I never realized that I literally have like 80% of these things. Looks like I’m building a trail!
i have a cat 953. makes trail building pretty easy. maintaining the machine is the hard part.
This is great. I just started building a trail in my back yard for my 4 year old and I to ride.
Would love to see a ”how to design a jump” video
That rake is definitely underrated here. If you don't own a Mc Leod or a good machete the rake can do it all!
Omg !! This makes me wanna build a good 4 seconds track with what i got as my yard at home 🙈

OK, trail tools videos might be niche, but this is the best one I've seen !
If you like the machete try out an italian style roncola or manaresso, it works way much better on thickets (those are meant for that). A machete its more suitable for greener and softer stuff
Love the necessity vs danger scale!!!
I like how non-Canadians use all types of screws that we pretty much replaced with Robertson screws. They are a life changer.

Great video!
Another useful one is a good nursery ball cart. I’ve been able to move 100+ pound rocks up and down my trails all day by myself

Square shovel, rake, axe, garden saw and a 5 gallon bucket is basically the only tools I use when trail building

Cool music on this one, your uploads are always quality!!
I thought it was fun and funky lol
I will say down here we used a folding hand saw and a SawsAll a ton.
Tiller is from 'Maximum Overdrive'.
Nice video! What’s the angle grinder you used for a brief second called?
Great tool arsenal for any trail builder. Very nice.
Great video 👍🏻
But where can I get one of these self driving tillers? That one is great 😂
Very nice video. I really like these kind of videos.
Time to go buy some tools I'll need some day, better be prepared
"you might get some weird looks from mowing in the woods"
Not tools but things you should always have are a good pair of gloves and safety glasses/sunglasses.
Ratings were very clever Entertaining: 5/5
Ps. Sharpen the tiller blades... for roots of course
Which Mcleod is decent without spending a crazy amount. I see the yellow one on amazon but is it too fisher-pricey?
Not sure honestly, I bought mine locally from North40
What is the link to the song in the back?
great video and tips! I think people overlook the basics and its so important not to!
Soul Trail 🤙🏾
A can of beer is definitely a very useful tool.
A mini excavator would be pretty handy
love it!
Cool nicknames I thought i was the only that did that lol
1/5 danger on the shovel
I got a concussion from one lol
That 1/5 will sneak up on ya 🤣
nice man
Your Pawlowski is weird! I have a regular axhead with a 2 inch wide Mattoc that’s about 3 inches long. That Matic looks more like what you see on a pic Mattoc.
nice
You missed the two most important tools:
A good pair of gloves
Advil
The “Pulaski” invented here in northern Idaho
Wallace! Same place where Dantes Peak was filmed lol
I'd give rakes at least an excitement level of 2/5, you can ride it like it's a pony!
I don't get how u murikans deal with a showel without a handle or grip. Your forearms must be huge.
Come for the facial hair, stay for the tool ratings 🤣🤣🤣
a pulask and a pickaxe and pretty much the same thing
20/5 Blood Lust🤣🤣🤣
The name of your loppers lol
Dynamite
Epic
lol ‘Rakes’ Excitement Rating = 0 🥳
four wheeler
Classic background porno tunes. Great when discussing tools and clearing bush!
Who else calls the mclasky a mattic?
"It's definitely dangerous when being misused"
Sooo... Why you not wearing chaps or a helmet
all this list needs is a big old tub of elbow grease
please more scruffy content
