Probably leave the converter bolted up. When you unbolt the transmission the converter will stay connected and slide out of the transmission. I’m not sure how to get the converter off after that.

Do I have to take off the pan if I’m just trying to replace the torque converter seal? I’d rather not have to clean the area up and replace the gasket on the pan.
You don’t have to. The only reason I would if I just replacing the front seal is to keep fluid from pouring from the line fittings and dipstick hole while I had it out. Also when you get yours out try to look at the pump bushing and feel the hub on the converter. Just to make sure it’s not bad too along with the seal.

If it’s the 6R80 some of the them have an internal computer that has to be flashed but some just have a lead frame that doesn’t. I’m not real sure on which ones do and don’t. There are several years that have a recall on the transmission. They had a problem with the lead frame that keeps showing speed sensors bad and burn up the transmission. Good video. I have a 2006 F150 Supercab with 5.4. I need to replace the rear main seal on the engine. To do so, I have to get the transmission out of the way, at least partially. Would it be possible to disconnect the transmission and "float" it back about 6 inches to get to the rear main seal without completely dropping it?
Hello everyone... I got a question.. I'm currently replacing my transmission but I got mount one every but when I try to move my torque converter isn't moving at all any tip what causing it ?
I CANNOT get my toque converter off. Even when im prying it. The transmission came loose and probably caused me problems but i feel like iv done everything. Any ideas guys.
I usually take a screwdriver or pry bar and go through the inspection hole and move it that way. They can be a pain. You can also put a socket on the harmonic balancer and turn it that way
Go to the opposite side. There’s a hole with a rubber boot in the driver side. It comes out and you can get to your converter (nuts) there. Hope this helps with your confusion.
How much of a difference is there between this transmission removal and the newer generation, having issues with my 2013 6r80 and looks like in gonna have to replace it? Thanks
It’s pretty different. I’ve not had that many of them and haven’t made a video of those yet. But the concept of the same. Remove drive shafts Cross member Unplug everything. Converter bolts Transfer case Bell housing. I don’t remember off the top of my head if the exhaust has to be removed. I’m thinking it does. The main wiring harness plug is the exact same as the Chevrolet 6L80. You can skip through the video I have for it and find the part where I unplug it to see how you do that without having breaking it.
Has anyone figured out an easier way to get the top starter bolt? The video makes it look too easy but I can hardly even feel the thing with my fingers. I got the bottom one and side one off.
It’s a pain. If you find the right length extension and a universal socket it’s helps. You just gotta move it around until you get it on the bolt. That’s the worst part of those.
I have 1 now I'm working on , rebuilt the motor , got it sitting on the motor mounts just can't seem to get it stabbed in . Anyone have any advice on stabbing it back with transmission in place or will I have to drop the transmission an try an put it back with motor an transmission connected with using a a frame an chain fall ?
I have a 07 5.4 i already change the two solenoids inside the easy ones. And still when i turn on the engine doesnt give gas or accelerate. And i did start with sone sensors and relays but now its giving headaches any idea what could be..
If you engine won’t rev up that’s going to be something with the engine. I’d start with checking fuses, having it scanned, and look maybe at a throttle position sensor. If it revs up and just won’t move sensor or solenoids won’t help it. You can unplug everything in the transmission on these and they will still pull.
I did this on my 2007 f150 with Regular shop jack and And some ratchet strap but the only shitty part is that exhaust but I managed to get work with a few tools it’s not that bad
Make sure your converter is all the way back in the pump. When you’re bolting you’re the the engine take your time to make sure your studs on your converter are lining up in the holes on the flex plate. They will stick through a little when bolted up. Then you will need to pry it back flush with the flex plate. Just take your time.
Pretty close to the same. You might have to take the exhaust out or cut it in a couple places on the 98. And the cross member is different. It will have three bolts on each side that come in from the outside of the frame. You have to take the nuts off the bolts have keepers on them. They’re just a little more of a hassle but very doable
I need to replace the flexplate on my 06 f150 4x4, is this the best approach to getting access to it? Or could I do it without a full transmission removal?
Thanks for the video sir. I’m about to drop one from the salvage yard and this video definitely helps. What is the main cause of the transmission failure? I’ve never had a problem with my personal vehicles, I got a slick fx4 on trade and went to look up dropping transmissions and noticed a lot of videos. Mine currently works until it gets to temp and then the reverse will take a second to engage. I’d like to take it apart and attempt to repair it for down the road since it’ll be a spare.
Check your fluid level with the engine running. Then check again with the engine not running. If the level doesn’t change then the converter wasn’t back all the way and damaged the pump.
Okok. Finally got everything removed. Thanks so much. When I put it all back together, do I follow the same steps but in reverse? This is the first time I’ve ever bothered doing transmission work.
Yes. Just do the opposite. When you’re getting it lined up with the engine. Make sure the studs on your converter or lined up with the holes in the flex plate. If you bolt the transmission up without having the converter studs in the hole it could damage the pump.
The dipstick tube is bolted to the side of the engine. In a perfect world it will slide out as you’re letting the transmission down. Sometimes you have to work the transmission up and down and side to side for it to slide out of the case
Just goes to the vent tube at the back of the case. It doesn’t connect to anything on the other end. Just runs up and by the bell housing and back down
Man, you made that look effortless. Having a lift sure beats laying on your back cursing your life 😂😂😂 Excellent video.

have a 98 4r70w 4x4 with a 7 pin chassis harness. Trans failed and I bought a used 97 4r70w 4x4 but come to find out it's a 9 pin connector on trans. How hard is it to repin harness on truck or change solenoid and harness on trans? Directions please and thanks in advanced!
I'm working on a 1998f150 4x4 4.6L is it like the video or is there something else I need to know
Yeah. On the earlier ones you will probably have to drop the exhaust or cut it. There’s more stuff in the way on those.
I am new to this my question is in the other comments
Thanks so much great help 😊
Awesome. Thanks for watching
hello best regards, if I have a question I must keep the speed in neutral
I don’t think I understand the question
If it’s 4x4 look at how much room is between the exhaust and transfer case. That is probably what will hit first when sliding it back
it dont get any better than that! thanks for sharing! about how did it take you to take out and put back in?
Hello everyone... I got a question.. I'm currently replacing my transmission but I got mount one every but when I try to move my torque converter isn't moving at all any tip what causing it ?
Is the 05 F150 4x2 process(4R70) the same as 4x4 or does exhaust have to come down because of tail shaft clearance
It will come out without removing exhaust. Just have to bring it down at an angle.
Did u guys make a video of it going back in
Good job.
I CANNOT get my toque converter off. Even when im prying it. The transmission came loose and probably caused me problems but i feel like iv done everything. Any ideas guys.
Did you get all 4 nuts off ?
yes i took the 4 bolts off. You have a very straight forward video and helped great, i just can’t get the TC off even by prying it.
Is there a secret to turning the torque converter for those 4 nuts? I was only able to get it to turn a pinch and now I’m struggling again lol
I usually take a screwdriver or pry bar and go through the inspection hole and move it that way. They can be a pain. You can also put a socket on the harmonic balancer and turn it that way
ThanQ!!
the bolts (nuts) don't show in the starter hole. they're behind the trans. how did you put a socket on them? so confused.
Go to the opposite side. There’s a hole with a rubber boot in the driver side. It comes out and you can get to your converter (nuts) there. Hope this helps with your confusion.
@ltstransmissionhowto5158 thank you
How much of a difference is there between this transmission removal and the newer generation, having issues with my 2013 6r80 and looks like in gonna have to replace it? Thanks
It’s pretty different. I’ve not had that many of them and haven’t made a video of those yet.
But the concept of the same.
Remove drive shafts
Cross member
Unplug everything.
Converter bolts
Transfer case
Bell housing.
I hear a slip or slight clunk when I stop on a hill and start again after a rebuild. Something not right. What could it be?
Check to make sure the mount nuts and bolts are tight.
I have 1 now I'm working on , rebuilt the motor , got it sitting on the motor mounts just can't seem to get it stabbed in . Anyone have any advice on stabbing it back with transmission in place or will I have to drop the transmission an try an put it back with motor an transmission connected with using a a frame an chain fall ?
great skills
I have a 07 5.4 i already change the two solenoids inside the easy ones. And still when i turn on the engine doesnt give gas or accelerate. And i did start with sone sensors and relays but now its giving headaches any idea what could be..
If you engine won’t rev up that’s going to be something with the engine. I’d start with checking fuses, having it scanned, and look maybe at a throttle position sensor.
If it revs up and just won’t move sensor or solenoids won’t help it. You can unplug everything in the transmission on these and they will still pull.
@@ltstransmissionhowto5158 thanks.. i guess must be engine..
It does reverse but no power the scan give me 5 transmissin sensors.. solenoids.
I did this on my 2007 f150 with Regular shop jack and And some ratchet strap but the only shitty part is that exhaust but I managed to get work with a few tools it’s not that bad
That’s awesome.
Good video, Boomhauer... 😂😂
I like boomhauer
What's the best way to prevent the front drive shaft from spinning
I usually hold it with a pry bar if needed
Hey Fellas, thanks for the removal video. For installation (4R75E) are there any tips/tricks to aid a novice?
Make sure your converter is all the way back in the pump. When you’re bolting you’re the the engine take your time to make sure your studs on your converter are lining up in the holes on the flex plate. They will stick through a little when bolted up. Then you will need to pry it back flush with the flex plate.
Just take your time.
Great info
Thanks
I'm real lazy and I'm way ahead of where I thought I would have been. In only three hours and its on the ground
By the way working on the ground and no power tools. Still proud of myself
That’s awesome man.
Would it be similar with 98 ford 150 4x4 ??
Pretty close to the same. You might have to take the exhaust out or cut it in a couple places on the 98. And the cross member is different. It will have three bolts on each side that come in from the outside of the frame. You have to take the nuts off the bolts have keepers on them. They’re just a little more of a hassle but very doable
I need to replace the flexplate on my 06 f150 4x4, is this the best approach to getting access to it? Or could I do it without a full transmission removal?
When you get the transmission unbolted you could slide it back enough that you can get the flex plate bolts out.
@@ltstransmissionhowto5158 thanks I'm gonna give it a shot!
@@ltstransmissionhowto5158 will you still have to separate the transfer case when just slipping it back to get to the flexplate?
Nice job!!
I’d like to take it apart and attempt to repair it for down the road since it’ll be a spare.
great video thanks
I installed one did your process now it won’t go into gear or move
Check your fluid level with the engine running. Then check again with the engine not running. If the level doesn’t change then the converter wasn’t back all the way and damaged the pump.
Gonna make an installment video?
Yeah. I didn’t on this one. I will on the next one I get in the shop.
Thank ya sir. The video is what got my transmission out lol. Now I gotta get it back in.
Mainly just trying to cheat for the torque specs and shortcuts
Where's the teardown video n the installation video??
Is this what I sound like ...tell that's a good Ole boy there
If i drop a magnet in the tranny oil will it keep the metal out the gears?
Most transmissions have magnets in the pan. It catches some debris.
Where do the two longest bell housing bolts go?
The two longest ones go where the dial pins are.
2005 F150 4x4 Trans is the 4R75E, not the 4R70
Awesome 👏
Can you show how to convert a 2wd 4 speed transmission to 4wd
What about dipstick tub
The dipstick tube is bolted to the side of the engine. In a perfect world it will slide out as you’re letting the transmission down. Sometimes you have to work the transmission up and down and side to side for it to slide out of the case
Hey weird question. Where does that breather those attach to on top of the transmission?
Just goes to the vent tube at the back of the case. It doesn’t connect to anything on the other end. Just runs up and by the bell housing and back down
People watching Netflix, I'm watching this guy rip this trans out in record time lol
