As a Okinawa boy who recently moved to mainland Japan, this hit me in the FEELS. So awesome to see Hawaii culture (esp food that has been ridiculed and derided) lifted up and celebrated in this way
I love how Luke does the map zoom in thing at the beginning to show the surrounding wider area and zooms to the location. Really gave me a feel for the island and where you guys were. So thanks to him for that. That would be a really cool thing to do in Japan when you guys are on your travels to show us what the region looks like from above and exactly where you are like in relation to Tokyo. And even around Tokyo because a lot of us don't know how the city is laid out except that it's sort of a big circle
We ate Spam a lot when I was young. My father was in US Army & was a Sgt for much of his career. Feeding a family of six costs! So lots of Spam but I still like it. We have an Asian market in Seattle, Uwajimaya & they have the musubi. We lived in Hawaii in the late 1950s; I was 2-3 years of age so don’t remember. But in 1980, my late husband & I spent two weeks on four islands, for our honeymoon. It was so lovely. My favorite was Kauai but truly loved the International District & Polynesian Cultural Center on Oahu.
Give Paradise Poke a try. Its on school street and Nuuanu, where Hungry Lion used to be. Poke is fresh and tasty, musubis are good too but they sell out fast.
As a girl from Kansas who became a Navy wife and lived there twice for a total of 8 years, we never ate SPAM. Ugh. The only way I like SPAM is in fried rice. Too any other good foods to eat in Hawaii. Zippy chili is amazing. Usually you have a Napoleons bakery and they have a Dobash chocolate cake but you want it with the chocolate shavings you do have to order a whole cake ahead. Lau Lau & Kailua pig. Hot Malasadas in front of Walmart. Huli huli chicken.Sons Kal Bi BBQ is what I crave. The Meat Jhun, the veggie pack, lots of rice and the Korean BBQ sauce.
Fell asleep while I was waiting for the livestream so I watched this over breakfast. I would so love to meet you all but I’m in Northern California now. I lived in and worked in Waikiki in the 80s.
Musubi! Yum! But I have to admit, it was all about the treats from Liliha Bakery for me. Such nostalgia! I want them all! 😂 I'm looking forward to each and every one of your remaining videos from Oahu. ❤❤
growing up in southern US I didn't understand why my nana called instant noodles saimin, I wish I had asked more questions about growing up in Hawaii when she was younger ❤
In case your question hasn't been answered yet. That was 100% an illegal aerial firework. You can hear them throughout the year here. During celebrations, sporting events on TV like the super bowl, MMA, or boxing fight. The frequency starts to pick up leading up to 4th of July and New Years as well. As for the car horns it might have been related to graduation or something. Actually the firework might have been as well if it was lol. Both thing heavily ingrained in local culture and often intertwined
Thank you so much for this video! (I missed live) I had my first SPAM musubi at the Honolulu zoo. 😹 I absolutely love Hawaiian snacks...or are they Japanese! I am drooling.
Spam is one of our staple foods here. I have a running theory that in places that had a heavy military presence during WWII spam was given to locals and became part of the norm.
Thanks for live stream I really enjoy Hawaii food stuff. I hope the takuan in your musubi was a local brand Koko. That is pretty much the only takuan (pickled daikon radish) I eat. it is sweet and soft crunchy. Zippy's has been around forever it is the last stop on the way home. (so cal) a surf pak. it is local comfort food. I do not know if you notice this but in Hawaii all the locals call shoyu shoyu . Rainbow's now has a localtion in Kalihi less crowded. Rick's for a drive in
Happy birthday Satoshi! Love your channels ❤ hellos from New Zealand. Where is the ‘I do crafts’ shirt from, it’s amazing I love it and want to get one 😂
Where I live in rural US spam is considered "poor people" food. It's just not a thing anyone wants to eat if they can help it. I don't know anyone who buys it or eats it and you definitely wouldn't find it in a convenience store deli made into a snack.
Spam is lovely, we eat alot of spam here in the UK more often dipped into a batter and deep fried. Lovely. I like spam between 2 pieces of bread and butter with brown sauce on top. Try it u might like it.😁
Hi sonatian Satoshi my name is Tina I wish you'd come visit the Big Island especially in pahoa town they got good food maybe we could have a meet up one day and you can come out here I live here love and aloha Tina

Morning from South Africa Johannesburg. Thank you content we really enjoy content.
Happy Birthday, Satoshi. I am glad to see you two enjoying yourselves here. Can't wait see your collaborations with Amanda and Felix and Photo Luke.

Love you both look so relaxed and happy, so glad you got to see family and enjoy food you missed.

It's not just the folks in Hawaii or Japan that love Spam. Seems like all Asian people love it. Am I right or am I right?
Happy birthday Satoshi. Was in Hawaii in 2013. Would love to go back. Got to visit Oahu, the big island, and Maui. Beautiful place and people.
The jello cream cake reminds me of the strawberry jello pretzel salad that people would make for potlucks when I was a kid.

Happy birthday Satoshi-san, I wish you a year full of delicious IPA
Happy birthday Satoshi from South Africa Johannesburg
~ I am surprised to hear that Hawaii prices are higher than Japan. ⛩ I agree…Just have a blast!

Happiest birthday Satoshi san. God bless you more years to come. 🎂🙏❤️
Thank you
Thank you for the interesting video. And this video quickly reaffirmed my idea that spam is seemingly quite popular in Hawai.
Spam is one of our staple foods here. I have a running theory that in places that had a heavy military presence during WWII spam was given to locals and became part of the norm.
@@excll808 that's what I've read elsewhere at the least.
Welcome home! If you have time, try the mochi donuts at Aloha Donut Co. on King Street.
Did you make it out to Kapolei for the Poke Fest today?
Ahhh no we didn’t. Next time
greetings from Guam

Yes we just noticed that the locals say shoyu.
I always just get the plain teri spam ones. I have to try the other types.
Spain has wonderful Tapas

Summer in the US: was that a bomb, gunshots, or fireworks? 😭 I'm sure it was just fireworks. Have fun guys!
Spam & Pineapple
Hi all catching up with you in replay
Spam rice and fried eggs
I like Kulu Kulu For sweets if I can't have Liliha stuff

Sorry Shinichi
HELLO SO ? is Ur SPAM MASUBI like 5he OGINIRI? I 💘 SPAM but fried with a bit of oil 😋 😍🎆🎇🎈🎂🎈🎆🎇 ❤
Sou Shinichi
I hope I'm not offending Hawaiians, but I like spam nigiri more than spam masubi. I eat one spam masubi and I'm too full to eat anything else.
Spam Musubi is pretty filling for sure
I can’t stand Spam. Linguisa and I’m all in!
Happy Birthday Satoshi
