You're right, Richard. Danny Carey is the best argument for the theory that aliens are already among us. He's 62 human years old, BTW. Great stuff, gents. Keep it up.
Ok thank you guys I'm bout your fifth Tool reaction in .. that Judson has the very most intelligent responses to Tool I've EVER heard being OGT back from 92 since the first EP .. keep em coming
Tool perfectly captured Bill's antipathy towards fake culture with this song. A match made in heaven. I'd love to know what he would make of the world right now!
I love these reactions! I can’t figure out if he ever likes a song or not. But I can read his body language and almost see the musical math flowing past his eyes as he’s figuring it out! Maybe it’s just a nerd thing and I can recognize someone understanding something that I lost the skill of many, many years ago.
Danny Carey's math with the slow and steady pace of Maynard's vocals... such intense calmness. The drumbeats are always so intricate yet SO balanced. I grew up listening to a lot of Travis Barker, Joey Jordison and Danny Carey, along with many other talented drummers.. but all their tenacity and or state of Zen they seem to be in always made me want to TRY to drum as well. I did for a while but it wasn't a logical financial choice where I am from and how I grew up so I just stuck to messing around on every instrument I could get my hand on and always randomly bursting out singing.
@@fiverx2159 Who knows...maybe he's just being humble again. But even if none of their songs are actually difficult for him to play, there are still some who are more difficult than others.
@@robmartin9782 That's really interesting, and makes me want to really pay attention to the work he puts in during those songs. Thanks for commenting that!
The guys from Tool are big comedy nerds too. They were sitting first row during the live taping and they appeared as Puscifer in the 1st Episode of Mr. Show. Maynard used to bring cookies to the set.
Bill and his brother were also going to run a media production company named Arizona Bay. Maynard and Bill were good friends, and prior to his death they'd been working on plans to have Bill contribute to TOOL's live show somehow. The entire Aenima album is a tribute to Bill.
Thank you for paying tribute to Bill Hicks, one of the greatest, smartest and fiercest humorists of his time! RIP 🙏 Great reaction too! More Tool please :) Keep on rockin'... \m/
Okay Great Measures... you got me. Subbed. Danny is for sure an Alien. He's like, the only person that can utilize 100% of their brain for drums, everything from velocity control, time signatures, grooves, fills, and transitioning.
Hell yes hes an alien Richard haha. and Pneuma is def a great example, along with everything else hes ever done haha. The polyrhythm is ridiculous....have to buy an extra snare just to try to learn it haha. Good show gentlemen!! \m/
Since you mentioned Danny Carey's drumming, you all might be interested in a fusion jazz group he was part of recently called "Volto!". He did a podcast where he talked about recording their album. The band recorded everything live in studio together, and they did several takes. Danny said that for all but one of the tracks, they chose their first take to put on the album which amazes me because the stuff they do is technical as hell and very quick.
Thomas Haake has entered the chat. I think Thomas makes Danny's jaw drop. They both have a massive influence on modern drummers and it would be interesting to see a reaction to something like Meshuggah's Clockworks.
Thomas is a monster! I’ve been delaying the inevitable Meshuggah introduction because I didn’t want Judson’s brain to melt. Might have to get to that one soon.
Throughout all of the anger in this song I think the one line of "don't just call me a pessimist, try and read between the lines" is the most important here; just hoping for change, not the mass destruction of a whole state of people...
This was like 30 years ago when it was still possible. If they wrote this today, I'm prettty sure he would say, don't read between the lines. At all. 😂
@@MidwestFarmToys Nonsense, there's always hope for change. I don't even consider myself an optimist, but I'm not giving up either. Plus Northern Californians are mostly alright, don't want them to suffer for the plague that is SoCal.

Great reaction to a great band. Took me awhile to get into them though but once you get there there's no way back. Can't wait to see the reaction to Pneuma. Danny is a beast on drums. BTW: does Judson play other instruments besides the piano and the guitar?
There is a band I have loved for 20 years now and they never get any recognition from reactors. I would love to see some reactions to Dog Fashion Disco. There is such a blend of genres in their music and I would love to see Judson react to those blends. Most of the do blend metal, and will often have keys involved and sometimes even great jazz Horns. Please fellas give the band a shot.
Pneuma is of course a great watch of him drumming - but there is a whole AI-rendered Drumcam of a Lateralus tour when he was younger. Especially the piece "Triad" is probably my favourite footage of him drumming - you definitely should check it out if you enjoy drumming (regardless of reaction). Also I would love you guys to check out King Crimson.

Also I think he would dig the live version of Pushit from Salival. There's a great deal of space to get lost in that one. Maybe you could flip this thing on it's head and have him bring something for you to react to.
Going to try to do it this weekend. We’re planning to get together tomorrow afternoon and possibly Saturday. Hoping to get a ton of videos recorded because Judson’s job takes him out of town for the next couple of weeks.
Beside Tool, you should start your Dream Theater journey also. Would love to see your opinion on Octavarium, Dance of eternity, Glass Prison, Metropolis...
Disposition/Reflection, off Lateralus might be a good reaction, could get lost in those tracks. Descending, or Culling Voices from Fear Inoculum could be interesting
In all fairness, Pneuma isn't that complicated of a Carey song. It gets mentioned because of the cam, but Rosetta Stoned, Eulogy, Ticks and Leeches, the end of The Grudge, Lateralus are all far more complicated.
Ive been listening to tool for a long time..but i never analyzed the lyrics in there songs.. I just always liked the music and the tone of keenans voice.. The VicFirth drum cam of Pneuma is a must watch. Also, Danny said their most difficult song to play is "Descending".
I watched a short interview where he said "Invincible" and "Tempest" are the most difficult for him. Endurance-wise it's "The Grudge" apparently.
