    Hey Guys!
My podcast with @AprilLauren is now live on her Podcast Channel @wakeupbright . Head over there to see it :) I have finally got myself some new trainers! This has been a purchase that I've needed to make for a long time now :) I also had a running analysis done to try and find the correct ones for me. I am loving the trainers so far but I also learnt a few new things from my analysis too :)
Let me know in the comments below which ones you like to run in and if you have had an analysis yourself! Thanks so much for watching:)
Give this video a thumbs up and make sure to Subscribe to see more.

I love my Altras, I tried them and never turned back. So roomy in the toe box! They're zero drop, though, not 6mm. And the first few walks/runs in Altras can take some getting used to in your feet and legs, because the zero drop works your muscles and tendons differently.
I wish I had ever had a good experience in a running store. I have giant feet, so they never carry my size, which is at the very top of the range, but also as a larger runner I've gone to stores with rave reviews and then been totally ignored by staff and treated like I was wasting their time. No stride analysis, just eyeing me up and down and pointing me to the wall of shoes, sometimes they might watch me walk three feet and then point me to the wall. Literally that's it. Every time! It has turned me off of running shoe stores completely. I'm glad you had a good experience, though.

Switched over from Nike Pegasus as my trainer needed refreshing, went to Altra Provision 7. Very happy. Neutral runner though provision with a bit of stability is doing well for me. Thanks for the content.

A few years ago, when I started running, I bought a real cheap pair and they were ideal for what I was doing. Then I tried to do my own analysis and bought some NB. First run out I heard my hip pop and it took nearly a year to heal. After that I popped into a sports shop that did the analysis, but told them I couldn’t afford much😜. They explained why the NB were never going to suit me and advised Mizuno Wave Rider. I’ve been too scared to try anything else. Never had another problem or blister. Love them.

I run in Altras 👍🏻 but a bit confused if you wanted a 6 mm drop all altra shoes are zero drop unless they’ve changed anything I haven’t heard about… Anyway Altras are great shoes to run in great to improve your running form 🙂

@@karolinawawszkowicz9335 yeah they are i went to Vibrams for a bit then fancied some more ‘normal shoes’ to run in so use Altra’s most of the time now 👍🏻

Yeah they're definitely zero drop, the shoe sales person might have been confused. I love my Altras, though!

I've heard the best shoe is what feels comfortable but a word of warning is going from a 6mm drop to a zero drop you should gradually build up the mileage so the achilles and calves get use to them but as your a forefoot runner you might be okay. As for my shoes I have about 15 pairs currently on rotation 😮

💯a transition period is definitely important if you’re moving to a lower drop shoe. I run in zero drop Altras, but I transitioned slowly over a few months.

I am definitely not brand loyal although I do have my favorites. Having your feet analized is perfect. I have wide feet and my right foot the Arch is slightly higher so I feel tingly and sometimes numbness if I'm not in the right size. I started running in NB1080V12 in wide half a size bigger and it was awesome! Then I got the Saucony Endorphin Pro 3 for racing in a whole size bigger because they don't come in wide. Now I'm in the Asics SuperBlast as a replacement to my worn out NBs and love that they are good for any type of run.

It’s great to hear you have found a shoe that works for you.
I’m a little worried that they said you need 6mm drop and gave you Altra to try as they are all zero drop (now called balanced cushioning), so the staff member might need some more training

When I first started running I wore a pair of Saucony trainers that I brought second hand, they did not agree with my feet and I subsequently ended up with shin splints and knee pain. After recovering I went and had my analysis done and brought a pair of Brooks GTS21 I have absolutely loved them and feel like a totally different runner now. Like you I never realised you needed to size up, my trainers are now very worn and I’m contemplating buying the Brooks GTS 22 but I’m so reluctant to change my shoes as I’ve been so comfy in them but they are literally falling apart now 😂

Loved the review and your story Lucy! I completed my first half marathon last year and plan to do two more by the end of this year. I hope to run a full marathon like you one day! Just FYI, from my research Altra Provision 6 are zero-drop shoes and from my research, it is best to ease your way into using zero-drop shoes if you are coming from higher-drop shoes, that may be why you were having a tingly session while running in them for the first time!

Commenting before I've watched the video. I've tried the Provision before. I can't speak to the current version but I did not like the version I tried in 2018. They felt "dead." No spring, no cushion. Of the Altras, I prefer the Escalante for road running (I wear Lone Peaks for hiking and backpacking). Also, if you are needing a stability shoe, Brooks Adrenaline have been my #1 shoe since 2005. Love them.

I prefer Saucony's with good lugs. In the desert foothills of Southern California, I need shoes to hold onto granite and also survive going up and down steep sandy hills. I do like Merrell's too and La Sportiva for mountain trails, but they don't last too long on the desert floor. Altras look too thin to me, but I've never owned a pair. I've been to a running store and got recommendations, but I'm not sure if he was necessarily an expert. Make sure to try them on a trail like your 50k, i.e. muddy or rocky; so you're more confident running on that trail and not just on the road. ✌

It’s hard finding running shoes for a wide thick foot. I have a wide mid foot and high/thick instep. I’ve tried New Balance 1080, 860; Hokas, and Diadora shoes and none were wide enough. Felt like I was “stepping” on my shoe while I ran. I also got the tingles in my feet in those. The only pair that works so far is my Brooks Adrenaline. Fit great, no tingling and I forget I have them on mid run. Perhaps I’ll try the Altras next. Hope they work for you Lucy! Keep running like you’re being chased by a T-Rex! 👟🦖😂

Nice choice, Lucy, they should serve you well. Do you log your shoe mileage? If you use STRAVA etc and add the shoes to your workouts, it will log the miles they accumulate for you. I run occasionally with a group from Nottingham called Rebel Runners, a few of the members swear by Altra running shoes. I have yet to try some but they're on my to do list 😊

I am an absolute beginner, overweight, did have an analysis and chose Altra also. Lightweight and a wide forefoot. Not the fastest trainers but good for me. My second pair I bought myself, same characteristics, Asics, but it didn't work for me so had to sell them. PS i think it would have been better to walk in your shoes for a few days so your feet and legs could adjust to the new position

At the moment, I’m using Hokas (Bondi 8 wide). I love the support and cushion they offer but sometimes I feel like I’m running in platform heels because their outsoles are so thick lol. I’d like to get an analysis done one day to see if these are the right brand/style for me😄👟

Yk altra is a 0 drop shoe right? Which means there is 0 millimeters difference between the heal and forefoot. The toe box is also foot shaped. It takes some time to get used to, but once you are used to it you will only buy altra afterwards! I will never run in anything other than altras ever again! You are wearing their medium cushion medium stability shoe and they have sooooo many other great running shoes, you should look at all of them!
I currently wear the altra torin 6 as my everything shoe and I love my torins but I might upgrade soon to a torin 7 or something else like a provision 7 or a paradgim 6 or a vanish tempo.

Hello! If you feel your feet are getting numb. Just try different way to lace the trainers (no crossed).

    • @bjsmithart

I noticed my feet starting to tingle at the beginning of my first runs in my current Altras. I usually tie my runners with a heel lock. I realized it was affecting my circulation… not to the point of going numb, but enough to annoy me. Tweaking the laces fixed it.

I have used Brooks adrenaline gts since 2007,but sometimes it is a hit miss. It all depends on the year, some better than others. I overpronounce my stride and have wide feet.

Hi Lucy! Love your videos! I found you just few weeks ago when I was reminiscing on my first 50km and searched for other first timers experiences.. :D My so far most comfortable running shoe is Nike - I've been trying different shoes for the last few years, but I think next time I'll go back no Nike! The shoes I have now also seem uncomfortable for the first km, still after having them for few months :) I think I should do the test as well - I noticed during my ultra and then at some other runs as well - that my feet are going slightly inwards when running (I think it's called overpronation?). So not sure if I should have a specific running shoe or were some insoles!

  • @wking8
    @wking8 ปีที่แล้ว

Watching you walking it looks like you pronate pretty significantly. You should probably use the altra paradigm, as it has bigger support to keep you centered.
