Be sure to drop a like on this one guys! Thank you to everyone who’s suggested this over the past few months - hope everyone has a sick day ❤️ Also, be sure to follow me on Twitch if you’re into gaming! Twitch.tv/drewf28
Really cool to come home and see you did a reaction to one of my favourite Bands again. Other tracks i recommend would be "A Home" or "The Silent Life" ... and can you pleeeeasse check out a Band called "Isis" with their track "Carry"? you wont regret it, they actually opened up the US tour of Tool when 10.000 days was released :) very heavy, very atmospheric
@@faultier3215 Yes 💯 agree to the whole comment! A Home or Silent life BUT don't expect it to be as "chill"! Where Owls know my Name is much more soft then their other Stuff.. And check out ISIS I'm sure you'll dig great underrated Band!
Yeah, Silent Life kind of took off where "Sand Baptism" left, took it to the next level and then some more :D Which is not to say that Sand Baptism isn't an amazing song in it's own right.
The dude holding the tambourine is Andy Thomas from Black Crown Initiate. BCI are similar to Rivers of Nihil and I highly recommend their song holy silence, which has my favorite guitar solo of the year so far. I also recommend The Silent Life by Rivers of Nihil as everyone else is doing but for a twist I would try their song Monarchy for fucking legendary grooves.
For more RIvers of Nihil - Silent Life This was released in 2018. Whole album is sick. It's one of my most listened to albums of last couple years. I feel like Where Owls Know my Name is the best stand-alone song where the others are much better appreciated as part of a whole album experience and in context. More proggy stuff: Karnivool - Goliath (dumb band name, great band) Caligula's Horse - Dream the Dead
Finally! Glad you enjoyed it man. I have a feeling these guys are gonna be one of my absolute favorite bands in 10-20 years from now if they keep at it. This whole album is perfection, one of my favorites ever.
I would say there earlier stuff is "technical" Death metal. Their latest album I would classify as Progressive death metal. the whole album is a masterpiece
My guy 😄 The tambourine, along with the rest of the video is supposed to be a joke. The guy playing it does guest vocals on this song, and he's from another band called Black Crown Initiate. That being said Rivers of Nihil's music is no joke 🤘 (LMAO at Drew thinking these guys are like Slipknot but one guy just plays tambourine 😄) Glad you seem to dig the music!
You might not have realized yet, but I'm sure it was Opeth that opened the door here for you, even though you kept emphasizing how much of a hard time growling is giving you... Btw, I found this band on my neverending search for an "old Opeth" replacement. One of many findings, yet this one has also some similarities with "Shining - The Ghastly Silence", especially the saxophone parts.
If you liked them, I think you should take a look at Allegaeon. They are an amazing Technical Death Metal band that does not take themselves seriously, but takes their music very seriously. React to Proponent For Sentience III - The Extermination, you will not be disappointed!
I'll second damn near any Insomnium. While we Sleep, The Promethean Song, Through the Shadows, One for Sorrow, Every Hour Wounds (play with the lyrics).
Some of the video aesthetic definitely comes from early Black Sabbath videos - at least the psychedelic swirls on the green screen. They were one of the first bands to have something other than just themselves playing, so there's an element of homage for that.
The "troll" in the background seems to be the main character from their most recent album (Where Owls Know My Name). The album dives into the mind of the last sentient being left, after the fall of civilisation. It's an incredible album, which deals with themes of depression, meaning, isolation and more as this last entity reflects on his existence and eventual death.
I happened on this a coupla months ago, and havnt heard it 'till now again. Great video first off- I love the retro look ,with the scratchy appearance as though its from an old video tape. Reminds me of very early promo videos from bands dating from the late 70s or something like that. The song itself has some really heavy grooves too, and the sassy saxophone caught be by happy surprise. That part of the song is really cool. Bit of Alice in Chains even, in the opening vocals, with those doomy sounding harmonies.
This entire album front to back is amazing. Definitely give it a listen-through on your own time. The video is tongue-in-cheek, but the music slaps. Prog, death metal, psychedelic rock, all folded together into a super fun ride.
Saw them play this whole album live, start to finish with Black Crown Initiate supporting. Andy joined them on vocals and they had the saxophone player. The sound and live atmosphere was one of the most incredible moments Ive ever witnessed and Im immensely glad I got to bear witness to it. You should check out Withering Waves by BCI also
Mastodon and Rivers of Nihil in the same month? Awesome dude. Now you're gonna get a bunch of requests from this album, and that's great, but try Monarchy or Circles in the Sky first please
Easily the best metal record I've heard in 20 or so years, every single song... and to see them pull that off, the entire album, live, with an acttual saxophone player on stage was just mind blowing. I'd recommend the main band of the clean singer, Black Crown Initiate (Invitation, Withering waves, Stench of the iron age...). And Oceans of Slumber (Pray for fire). Or, did we have some Twelve Foot Ninja on this channel yet? You can't react to a video like this and not react to "Coming for you"... :D Oh, and 5 band members if I'm not mistaken completely, and it came out in 2018.
This metal fan has already heard it around 100 times. The whole album is great, even as someone who really doesn't like extreme vocals (screams or growls).
Tambourine man is Andy Thomas, the clean singer / lead guitarist of Black Crown Initiate, just doing a guest spot. Saxophone dude also isn't in the band
They shot this in the style of a 70s music video. Hence their attire, the psychedelic elements and the lo fi quality. They did it just for this video. It's not their persona or anything.
Good reaction bro! I really love this band after hear their song 'A Silent Life', unique song, that 🎷 sound really2 amazing. This album I hear first from them and recently Monarchy album 😊😊😊 Maybe you could react to Insomnium (Melodic Death Metal from Finland) their song While We Sleep 👍 me strongly recommend💕
Ooh, this was a good opportunity for me, as I'd never heard these guys before either. It's not bad, but I think I'd need to listen to an album or something to figure out my opinion. Oh, right, also: I am also once again begging you to react to The Dear Hunter. Preferably A Night on the Town, though no one song really does their particular brand of diversity justice. They've been known to touch on post-hardcore, indie rock, jazz, blues, bluegrass, symphonic/indie rock, electronica, surf rock, and the occasional bout of disco.
These guys were just having fun with this video and song, dressing up like they're from the 60's/70's. I adore this song. It's my favorite off this album. You should check out soil & seed from their album conscious seed of light sometime soon. It's another really good song but not too similar to this one.
Ahhh some tech death. If you liked this, and I believe you did, check out another criminally underrated band. Check out Allegaeon - Stellar Tidal Disruption.
You have to ignore the video. It's not really what they look like when performing. This is a perfect album. It's good from start to finish. "A Home" is my favorite track because the drums are insane.
Be sure to drop a like on this one guys! Thank you to everyone who’s suggested this over the past few months - hope everyone has a sick day ❤️

Silent Life has fookin' nasty groove, check it out
The whole album was beastly.
Drew, Just react to the whole goddamn album. You will love it
Yeah, Silent Life kind of took off where "Sand Baptism" left, took it to the next level and then some more :D Which is not to say that Sand Baptism isn't an amazing song in it's own right.
Many will recommend The Silent Life, but I really think that Subtle Change is the best song from that album.
i think both are awesome, but i think he will get more enjoyament out of the silent life especially from the groovy parts.
Subtle Change is a must listen
BOTH
Hell maybe Old Nothing, or Death is Real
Subtle Change is the best song on the album, and absolute must for any metal fan.
Yay another big one down. Maybe we can get to Caligula's Horse sometime soon 😍
City has no empathy is a fcking masterpiece
I've been saying for months he needs to do "Dream the Dead".
@@fellonblackdays9 Literally me too, same song lol
The dude holding the tambourine is Andy Thomas from Black Crown Initiate. BCI are similar to Rivers of Nihil and I highly recommend their song holy silence, which has my favorite guitar solo of the year so far. I also recommend The Silent Life by Rivers of Nihil as everyone else is doing but for a twist I would try their song Monarchy for fucking legendary grooves.
BCI is really underrated, their new album is definitely in my top 5 this year. I discovered Rivers of Nihil through them as well
This song is sick
Agreed
The whole album is sick :D!
Please do the whole album
"The Silent Life" or "Death Is Real" next!
I wholeheartedly agree with this
Yes or "Subtle Change"
YES, THANK YOU
For more RIvers of Nihil - Silent Life

Caligula's Horse - Dream the Dead
Hell yes Drew! The song The Silent Life by them is also amazing!
Finally! Glad you enjoyed it man. I have a feeling these guys are gonna be one of my absolute favorite bands in 10-20 years from now if they keep at it. This whole album is perfection, one of my favorites ever.
Try The Silent Life, this album is on every "Top 10 metal albums of the decade" list I've seen
I would say there earlier stuff is "technical" Death metal. Their latest album I would classify as Progressive death metal. the whole album is a masterpiece
Definitely gotta check out their song Subtle Change to hear more of their "technical death metal" side
Awesome Birthday present. Review of one of my favorite bands. Killer song!
MEN! THIS! YES! Now do Rivers of Nihil (The video to compare) - A Home. And then Haken or Thank You Scientist!
Please, continue with the Mastodon reactions too.
About to go binge their albums damn that was good

Opeth and Gojira

I'm going to second that! Also, for a killer song with a video that DEFINITELY doesn't take itself seriously, 1.618. :)
And exothermic chemical combustion video! Amazing song
And do stellar tidal disruption
so sick-the shredding also the shredding makes this band shred a lot
Finally my dude, I love this band! Keep up the good work! The Silent Life is another slapper of theirs
Brilliant band. One of the best about at the moment. And the sax just adds a nice edge.
I’m gonna be honest, I wasn’t gonna click on the video until I saw your title. I’m extremely glad I did. This was killer.
The Clickbait got you!🤣 but sure look at least it was worth it!
My man's into Rivers of Nihil! *thumps desk* YASSSSSSS
Finally you got to it. Now please do "While we sleep" by Insomnium
Yaaaas finally Rivers of NIhil! their latest album is a masterpiece. Get to some Black Crown Initiate!
YES!!!! Now do Silent life by them!
The Tambourine player also sang during this video !!
This song is phenomenal from an amazing band with a great lineup of tunes
Such a good song.
Great song. Death prog meets epic sax guy. ^^ The 70's style video is fun too.
Such a good song 👌🤘
Power Trip - Divine Apprehension
Power Trip - Hornet’s Nest
Power Trip - Crucifixation
The title track, Nightmare Logic is my favorite. All great choices.
@@bdizzle2144 It’s hard to choose just a few for sure!
Now we're talking
Siiiick!! Haken - The Architect
I listen to this song and a few others of theirs all the time! ❤️
One of the best metal albums of 2018. I'd also recommend anything by Horrendous off of the album Idol from the same year.

This whole album, top to bottom, is a modern metal masterpiece. Every single track is worth reacting to.
Finally
Nice reaction, maybe would you like to react to Subtle Change, is their sick masterpiece song!
The whole album. Fantastic experience ❤
You have to react to “A Home” by these guys. I think you’ll dig the song. The instrumentals are phenomenal.
Deafheaven - Honeycomb (Audiotree Far Out).
Please.
This song popped up in a feed while listening to some archspire. Latched onto this song and it’s in daily rotation often. Good shit mate subbed to ya.
My second favorite album of 2018 (second only to Zeal & Ardor). This band is so talented and fun.
Serious band, serious song, goofy video. That album was amazing.
Opeth A fair judgement/burden
Very interesting band.
I didnt expect to react to this. One of the most unique bands ive ever heard. Glad u njoy it :)
Mastodon and Rivers of Nihil in the same month? Awesome dude. Now you're gonna get a bunch of requests from this album, and that's great, but try Monarchy or Circles in the Sky first please

Think I've requested this from all my favourite reviewers for 12 months lol, and Still Life is awesome

Horrendous are another great death metal band doing things a little different from the norm, you should check out 'Devotion (Blood for Ink)'

Liberal af band lol
WILDERUN - The Tyranny of Imagination!
Amon Amarth - War of the Gods
Amon Amarth - Free Will Sacrifice
Amon Amarth - Valhall Awaits Me
This metal fan has already heard it around 100 times. The whole album is great, even as someone who really doesn't like extreme vocals (screams or growls).
Tambourine man is Andy Thomas, the clean singer / lead guitarist of Black Crown Initiate, just doing a guest spot. Saxophone dude also isn't in the band

Amon Amarth - Prediction of Warfare
They shot this in the style of a 70s music video. Hence their attire, the psychedelic elements and the lo fi quality. They did it just for this video. It's not their persona or anything.
You must check The Silent Life!
Best metal album of 2018
Totally thought that was Oderus Urungus at first!
Some other songs not suggested which are more heavy are Sand Baptism and Soil and Seed
Good reaction bro! I really love this band after hear their song 'A Silent Life', unique song, that 🎷 sound really2 amazing. This album I hear first from them and recently Monarchy album 😊😊😊
Maybe you could react to Insomnium (Melodic Death Metal from Finland) their song While We Sleep 👍 me strongly recommend💕
TesseracT - Hexes
My dude! Yes!
Its pronounced Nihil. Your welcome. Great video by the way. This album is my in top 5 all time, every song is fucking amazing.

Boy, you'll love Riverside - Egoist Hedonist
Orbit Culture - The Shadowing
A Home!
Check out their song Death Is Real, super heavy shit
Awesome band! Allegaeon would be a logical next tech death excursion. Anything from their last album Apoptosis.
These guys were just having fun with this video and song, dressing up like they're from the 60's/70's. I adore this song. It's my favorite off this album. You should check out soil & seed from their album conscious seed of light sometime soon. It's another really good song but not too similar to this one.
This is such a sick song. You should do Graves by Caligula’s Horse sometime
you should react to the song Subtle Change (Including the Forest of Transition and Dissatisfaction Dance) such a banger.
Dude, it's time...
Band: Between the Buried and Me
Song: Silent Flight Parliament
If you do decide to do the silent life, make damn sure you get the opening track with it.
Ahhh some tech death. If you liked this, and I believe you did, check out another criminally underrated band. Check out Allegaeon - Stellar Tidal Disruption.
Rivers of Nihil the silent life trust me dude. Death metal with a bit of progressive flair
oooookaaay, can we have Sleep Token - Higher finally?
You have to ignore the video. It's not really what they look like when performing. This is a perfect album. It's good from start to finish. "A Home" is my favorite track because the drums are insane.
I think their costumes were for the effect of the video.
Please react to LETTERS FROM THE COLONY from Sweden! It's in the same category. You're gonna love it! Cheers! :)
Subtle changes -
Man, just check the entire album, you won't regret it!
Sleeping on Ne Obliviscaris?
First comment in years, just to spread the love for these guys ^
Periphery - Icarus Lives
DO THE WHOLE ALBUM
React to sand baptism, mechanical trees and the silent life by them
