I had a chance to see Rivers in concert. Really small club, and we were no more than five feet from them. They brought a sax player with them on tour, and played this whole album, complete with the interstitial material. It was amazing.
The whole album is amazing! I saw them live when they dropped this album the saxophonist was on stage with them it was amazing. 🤯 if you get to see them live you will not regret it.
Ha! I clicked to the video of this song a few months ago just because of the goofy cloths they were wearing and I've been listening to the whole album on repeat ever since, these guys are good!...and this video is easily a 12 out of 10!
I love the contrast of how serious the lyrics are and how ridiculous the video is 😂 fucking love this song and the album in general is a masterpiece. Defiantly in my top 3 of the last decade
I really love Rivers of Nihil and if you wanna check out other cool songs from them try A Home and Sand Baptism, but this song has a guest vocalist preforming the clean vocals at the beginning of the song. That is the guitarist/clean vocalist Andy from the tech/prog death metal band Black Crown Initiate and they just released my favorite song of the year called Holy Silence. I highly recommend them if you've liked Rivers of Nihil so far.
Another excellent track and reaction... Kyle is on fire! I need to listen to more of these guys. The sax is sooo Awesome! Dream Theater threw in a sax on the Once In A Livetime tour on a couple tracks, it reminded of the atmospheres created there and how well it translated to the full band composition. Loved it. Cheers! Peace!
Late to the party but I wanted to drop some info on the song and album. The Owls album is about a man who is selected by the Earth to be the last living intelligent life on the planet and witness it's death. As time passes his mind begins to fade and he watches everything that he has ever known decay while he struggles on. This song lands near the end of the story and he's telling himself "we're drifting further from what we have known, this mentality that we've built is breaking down." You are absolutely right about this being metal with soul. It's so heartfelt and well constructed. It's a desert island album for me. Thank you for the review/reaction.
Oh damn you did this one now. Sweet. I'm always so impressed by how seamless they mix in the saxophone. It's hard to imagine a death metal band being able to mix it in as if it belongs, but they do it. I'm from the same area as the band in Reading PA as well, and was totally surprised when I found out they were from there. It's questionable whether they're going to bring the sax guy back for their next album, and that really really sucks. I hope they reconsider because it makes them so unique. Prior to that 2018 album when they didn't have saxophone, their music really didn't draw my attention all that much. Would be cool to check out the whole album on a stream. I'd definitely try to be there for that.
I love these guys and I've been in this community of extreme underground metal for roughly 25 years now. I've been listening to this album for a few months now maybe a year and just recently it's made its way into daily listening for me over the past 2 weeks. Lyrics are awesome bonus. I'll stop gushing now.
Dude, that whole album slaps. I'd recommend listening to the whole thing. Not every song has a saxophone in it (because they only ever used that sound on this one album) but it pops up in a few other songs. This is one of my favorite albums right now. It's been a couple years, and not a whole lot has given me as much joy as this album. 10/10 recommend doing the full review!
The clip is so much fun, love this band. The best song on this album IMO is Subtle Change (including the Forest of Transition and Dissatisfaction Dance), although the album is a blast from start to finish. Great reaction :) !
Rivers of Nihil is so freaking good. My favorite song from that album is "Subtle Change (Including the Forest of Transition and Dissatisfaction Dance)". It's a long track that takes you on an amazing journey. There isn't a music video for it but I am sure there are other videos for it. It would be a nice long reaction video.
"A Home" is another really good one off of this album, but that's kind of a silly thing to say seeing how all of the songs on this album are really good. Probably my favorite is track 5: "Subtle Change (Including the Forest of Transition and Dissatisfaction Dance)" but it's like 18 minutes long
they are all using very much down scaled versions of the instruments they actually play lol. bass player plays a 6 string, guitars are 7 and 8 i believe and drum kit is WAY bigger lol.
Not my cup of tea but it's cool. I appreciate the variation and mixing vastly different styles and going back and forth etc. Still, not my cup of tea lol. I actually prefer heavier stuff if I'm going to listen to death metal. Like Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Suffocation, Cryptopsy, Dying Fetus, Brain Drill, Nile, Hate Eternal etc. but to each their own man.

Want to do that for sure
Saw them about 4 years ago in a small club as well. Played to about 14 people. Everyone was front row. One of the best shows of my life!
They truly are amazing. This song is a masterpiece, and the saxophone is a brilliant touch.
One of the best albums this decade, amazing band!
It was released last decade.

I didn't know I needed Saxophone Death Metal in my life....but now that's all I want!!!!
Hahahahaha…….. I know, right!!! These guys make the saxophone so cool in metal.
Rivers of Nihil is killing it! Their one of my favourite bands. Check out Ne Obliviscaris and Gojira for more Kickass metal
Dude I'm Australian and that can of Foster's is ridiculous 😂

You need to listen to the whole album...probably the album of 2018

Dude, this was fucking perfect! These guys are the real deal. I’m loving their sound so far. Excellent taste as usual.

One of my Favorite Bands, one of my all time Favorite Songs
WOKMN is one of the best Death Metal Records of the last 20 Years
One of the best modern death metal bands

This is a very original approach to metal. Not every band has the balls to add some sax. You see it more often with underground bands. SO to Kyle😉

Man I learn about some awesome groups from your channel! The sax part is genius! I recommend Children of the Night by Kadaver- the video is crazy!
I think you’d like some Billateral-era Leprous! I’d suggest Forced Entry or Restless for a react you’d really enjoy! 🤘🏻
This album is good. Dude! Do an Archspire. Theyr'e buds. Maybe Calimus Will Rise By Archspire.
best metal album 2018 imo.
Love it!!

This is the only song by them I care for but I like it a lot
they are all using very much down scaled versions of the instruments they actually play lol. bass player plays a 6 string, guitars are 7 and 8 i believe and drum kit is WAY bigger lol.
PLEASE DO A FULL ALBUM REVIEW
PLEASE DO AN ALBUM REVIEW BRO YES ITS SOO GOOD 🙌
Heavy Opeth influence there, don't you think?
i didnt wanna say it
Kernel panic or Rise of cephallopods by alkaloid
Alkaloid needs more exposure definitely.

Hahahaahha... I feel ya. I'll be adding more Cannibal Corpse and Cryptopsy soon. Gotta request?
