She rode Drogon on nerves and instinct *alone.* HOTD gives a whole new perspective on her awesomeness. TEAM DAENERYS FOREVER!
After watching HOTD, looking back on Dany as a whole, she was actually CRAZY for being able to withstand riding Drogon as much as she did with no saddle. Like, all of her ancestors had saddles mounted to their dragons and Dany basically had iron thighs.
I've got no idea how you could cling to hard dragonscales bouncing with huge amplitudes and speeds with iron thighs. It should not work. Strong arms to hold on tight on a spike is probably a more realistic way to somehow stay attached to such a beast. Should, however, the movement of the dragon's back be only slightly more bouncy than that of a horse, then you definitely do not need iron thighs to stay on, only balance and impeccable structural stability of your riding posture.
Especially when he got so big! One of the main reasons for the saddles is for when the dragons get big. Trying to ride on them bareback is impossible. It’s literally just a wide flat expanse and you’d be doing the splits and other contortions if you tried to hold on. So they basically secure a seat on top of the dragon with ropes and reigns (side note, how did Dany control/communicate to Drogon without them?) but yeah. I assume that the reason they saddle them early is to get them used to it from an early age for when they’re older and it’s definitely needed. That plus it must just be much more comfortable to sit on a padded seat than a super solid dragon back.
in the books when she rides him for the first time and he takes her away from meereen it said her thighs were bloody at first she thought it was her monthly thing since her thighs had healed and then she saw the rips in her skirt had been ripped and her hands damaged which is why once she starts riding him you see her wearing her pants/skirt outfits and wraps or gloves on her hands. dragon scales hurt. also she didnt know enough history to know how to make a dragon saddle nor did she have access to one since all the old history had been lost.
Looking back at this scene after all these years, the best detail of it is when Drogon lands right at the spot where Daenerys is shown to be pointing at in the next shot. That's just whole another level of bad assery. She not only crumbled their spirits she also flaunted how well in control she was. Pointed to the spot where Drogon should land, honestly still amazing.
Wow! Thanks for pointing that out. I never noticed that and I must have watched this scene dozens of times. Makes me wonder what else I’ve missed. Guess I’ll just have to watch the whole thing again.
She has more control over her three hand raised dragons than any rider from HOD on one. Because those Targaryens let grooms and stable hands raise theirs. That had to be taught how to talk to them
@@rowenestewart4933 An exeption would be Daemon and Caraxes as simular level of cominucation and bonding is seen with them. Likely to them being the same "person" as different species. Even they can't top Dany tho
@@rowenestewart4933 the lack of control in HOTD is just another case of terrible writing. Everything happening is accidental and bc the Targs can't control their own dragons, which they have ridden for years. Hell, just to bond with them as quickly as possible, dragon eggs had been laid into the cradle of the babes. But noooo, in HOTD, no Targaryen has agency over what's happening, its all accidental because they can't control their dragons. All of it just "oopsie" moments.
The moment Drogon hops down next to Daenerys is just perfect. She doesn't flinch at all and has her 'i'm a bad a** bit**' look on her face, the score kicks in, and Drogon's face / special effects look amazing.
Imagine building up such a brilliant character, giving her such a great character development (she fought her way from being a slave to a powerful Queen who freed slaves), only to fucking kill her for no real reason, thus making the worst ever ending in a tv series. The throne was hers. I've heard they didn't follow the books, which are still ongoing? I hope in the books Dany gets the ending she deserves.
I mean her show counterpart getting killed made sense at that point because she had gone crazy with power, the issue is that she went from liberator to crazy in like two episodes. Her arc took a hard turn that was way too forced. The books are quite different from the show too my knowledge, some of the characters are also quite different (I heard book Tyrion is far less likeable). I have no clue how Danys arc works in the books but I have heard that it is different (especially towards the end as the show ended but the books are still ongoing).
@@Captain_Matias_Torres she became the exact thing she fought to free others from…a tyrannical leader. She was warned by many close advisors this could happen. Actually she was always the psycho murdering bitch. There were small hints shared across the seasons, e.g. no emotions when her brother is killed or hanging the masters as the road signs or killing the masters to free the slaves etc. She always felt her way was the right one and all else were wrong.

You see, her attacking one ship with 3 dragons is a very smart move. All of the other ships see what they can do against the beasts and what will happen to their ships as well. Also, they are carrying cargo similar to Greek Fire which installs more fear onto their fate against her.
Yeah yeah yeah She's not thinking strategically - she actually doesn't give a fuck - she's got 3 DRAGON' see X3 DRAGONS You don't need tactical awareness with fricking dragons - all you do is tear arse
And those three dragons need freaking forever to destroy a single ship. But, you see, she wasn't mad then. When she went mad, Drogon alone suddenly was able to one-shot Euron's fleet and blow up King's Landing's walls and towers and whatnot. 10/10 level up, especially considering that Balerion needed forever just to melt the towers of Harrenhall and he was several times the size of Drogon. Aegon wasn't mad though. Only the dragons of the mad can blow up thick castle walls. 🤓

Every relationship, was so intricately woven to conspire ultimately to the big picture, the final story. What was written and produced for the final series in the quest to make a quick buck was nothing short of absolute sacrilege. The writers should have been given to Ramsey for flailing.
This was epic like Aegon had all 3 dragons only in the field of fire, Queen Daenerys had all 3 of her dragons in this battle (not counting saving Jon snowflake beyond the wall and getting one killed) , Looking back to this scene now I realize this was the most epic Dragon scene in the whole show where she unleashed all 3 of her dragons like Aegon did in the field of fire. LEGENDARY !!!!!!!!
@@u.v.s.5583 true but they were also older, Daeny's dragons are still quite young at this point in the story. Yet Drogon still impresses with his size and since no one else in the realm has dragons but her, it doesn't matter how small they are, they're going to make people shit their pants lol
the last season turned Daenerys into a monster, and epic scenes like this into misunderstood warning signs. How the writers suddenly turned into idiots remains a mystery.
They got famous for "adapting" - read, "copying word for word except when he told them it would be better to change some parts a little" - GRRM's writing, then as soon as he couldn't carry them on his back and let them bask in his glory, they tried to parley their undeserved hype into a Star Wars deal and a big dumb Look at How Edgy We Are the-Confederates-did-nothing-wrong story that both got torched as soon as the moneylenders realized how hopelessly amateur they always were without a real author to provide them content to take credit for. It's a tragedy GRRM protected the delusion that they were ever good at anything as long as he accidentally did.
You do realize it was always the writers intention for chapter 1 to have her go mad like her father and need to be put down. The problem was they rushed the story arc so badly just so the directors could direct a movie that ended up being cancelled anyway that we never got the build up we needed to believe her final fall from grace.
Instead of them doing a fan service cause there were so many good fan theories that were valid they were hungry for Disney money they ended it quickly.
100% agree. It was as if the entire production team - especially the writers - were too busy doing their jobs that nobody actually WATCHED the show and how it came across on the screen.
Imagine having a fleet of ships, an army of powerful fighters and the only 3 dragons in existence and still losing. The ending of this epic series is too painful. I'm not saying she had to win but if she's gonna lose with those overwhelming odds, they needed to write a FAAAAR better reason for it. smh.
Ahh yes my favourite character built up over so many seasons to this point where we see her at near full strength, ready to finally travel to Westeros. I'm sure her arc is going to be wrapped up well with great dialogue and story telling :)
Something i just noticed, but the second Drogon appears the unsullied step back. Not like fearful backing up, like tactical, they know what's going to happen retreating. because they do so in unison.

It’s like the Star Wars sequel trilogy all over again 😂 I don’t consider the sequel trilogy canon, and I don’t consider seasons 7 and 8 of GOT canon :P
I do hope this scene will be similar on the books... cuz this is awesome ! It was supposed to be "a forecast" of what relatively young Dragon can do and what is about to happen once the action moves to Westeros. But what happens later is a downhill slope. I never understood how it is possible to have medieval ballistas shoot 2 - 5 km up in the sky like some kind of AA heavy machine gun and still have a punching power to pierce Draconic Scales. Clearly, writers did not knew how ballistas work. To reach speed & altitude the projectiles would need to be made out of tungsten & propelled by gun powder. Wooden balista projectile & string would just break apart during firing.
imagine how big Viserion and Rhaegal could have been if they weren’t confined to that dungeon. three dragons of that size would have made her an even more legendary Mother of Dragons
Queen Visenya would be so proud, her lil descendant burning fleets like she did in the good old times hehe Also, wasn't this the first time in a century that dragons returned to the battlefield? So epic.
I remember my excitement from these days clearly ... what a joy that was, what a magnificent thrill ... and then seasons 7 and especially 8 happened.😭 As you might have noticed, I'm still grieving and not over it.
did yall realise? It started with three dragons, it ended with three dragons. Aegon The Conqueror came to westoros on his dragon balerion along with his sister-wives on vhagar and meraxes. Now after so many centuries later, the last of the dragons drogon viserion and rhagal are also three.
Dany was built up so much to be a great ruler constantly balancing power and kindness only for the writers to reduce her to "btches be crazy, am I right fellas?"

@@thabulls420 great scene but when I saw this live and saw how much Drogon had grown coupled to the expression on his face when he jumps down next to his mum eyeballing the slavers like "you don't even understand" is just majestic. I believe this scene and others built around the story of Daenerys is what lead to GOT downfall. She is undoubtedly the queen of the Iron Throne. Writing in the usual "plot twist" damned the whole series to hell. They even have a sub series of her ancestors trying in vein to make a mends
This scene: Three dragons target specific ships on command, no casualties Season 8: “we can’t attack King’s Landing with dragons, they’ll destroy everything! You can’t control them!”
But no one ever said Daenerys couldn't control the dragons (except Jorah in Season 4). What you're referring to is actually Varys and Tyrion advising Daenerys against using the dragons to take King's Landing because innocent people would die. There's a big difference between targetting a specific ship in an armada where there are only military personnel onboard and attacking a city with millions of civilians tightly crammed into it.
This is also ignoring the fact that many of the soldiers used by Astapor and Yunkai were slave soldiers, as in people forced to do their master's bidding, essentially just innocent men following orders. So while the show may not have directly shown us casualities it's hard to believe there was no collateral damage throughout her reign as she hopped from city to city conquering and literally pillaging across all of Slaver's Bay. It's a shame we didn't get to see what happens to Meereen after she left it in charge of a bunch of literal mercenaries.
Yeah, taking King's Landing wouldn't require the dragons to level it and burn all the civilians. Just mass your army outside range of the city, use Drogon to put a 100-m wide hole in the wall, charge your army into the city unopposed in the ensuing chaos, and use the smaller dragons to wipe out any concentrations of defensive troops that develop. The remaining defenders will flee to the citadel, but that's just a trap. Did the writers never read any military history, or LotR?
Dany showed the best way to win a war; attack with your Air Force and your Navy (her dragons) then attack with your Marines (her Dothraki) and then use your Army (her Unsullied Army) for support and then used her Councillors for diplomacy.
Daenerys should have stayed in Meereen. Re-establish the Targaryen dynasty in Valyria before even considering Westeros. Perhaps at the most just setup shop in Dragonstone for the time being.
Maybe after the series is over and they show that they did not mess it up I will watch and enjoy it. I hope that the way it goes. But after the way GOT ended I will not get invested in one of their shows again until I know the payoff is worth it.
@@internettroll7604 imo they already did mess it up in the very first season. In Fire and Blood, it was depicted that the Dance of the Dragons was a culmination of greed, vengefulness and viciousness. In HOTD it is depicted as a culmination of oopsies, misunderstandings and misinterpretations. The Targaryens have seemingly no agency in their actions, it's ridiculous. Alicent misunderstood Viserys on his deathbed, Aemond just wanted to scare Lucerys but it was a prickly Vhagar who killed him and Arrax, so it wasn't really Aemond's fault, it was just a prank gone bad...and I could go on. It feels like a joke to me and takes away from the cruelty between the Blacks and the Greens even before the Dance truly began. HOTD depicts the bloodiest period of the Targaryen reign and the beginning of the end of the dynasty as a bunch of accidents.

Hmmm thighs
Probably from all that horseback riding
They way Rheagal & Viserion bust out of the Pyramid and look up, Drogon roars to them and they fly to him ready to rock❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥

@@georgeleinberger8670 I didnt notice that up til this comment too. I was rewatching and I was like, wow.

Very cool details that is easy to miss. Maybe besides Daemon no other Targeryan has a stronger bond with their dragon
and the way drogon circles his head around her as if he's protecting her as she ascends
@@rowenestewart4933 the lack of control in HOTD is just another case of terrible writing. Everything happening is accidental and bc the Targs can't control their own dragons, which they have ridden for years.

Never again in my lifetime can I expect to be so drawn into a TV series as I was to this work of pure genius. Every episode. Every character. Every scene.

The smallest of Aegon's three could have covered all three Danny's boys with a single wing, but that's insignificant.
@@u.v.s.5583 true but they were also older, Daeny's dragons are still quite young at this point in the story. Yet Drogon still impresses with his size and since no one else in the realm has dragons but her, it doesn't matter how small they are, they're going to make people shit their pants lol
Notice the "Here, boy" movement Daenerys makes with her left hand at 1:14, telling Drogon where to land.
I love the way she looks in his direction and tyrion is like here it goes
the last season turned Daenerys into a monster, and epic scenes like this into misunderstood warning signs.
@P A somebody killed everyone you ever care about... Wouldn't you be mad and go through everything to cut their heads off???
I'm not saying she had to win but if she's gonna lose with those overwhelming odds, they needed to write a FAAAAR better reason for it. smh.

I don’t consider the sequel trilogy canon, and I don’t consider seasons 7 and 8 of GOT canon :P
This scene never ceases to give me chills

You’re wrong, it’s one of the greatest moments in the history of the seven kingdoms and the lands beyond.
Settle down
Dany hatching the eggs. It had something more mystical to it in the books but in the show, it was also a top tier moment and definitely my favourite.
This scene: Three dragons target specific ships on command, no casualties
Season 8: “we can’t attack King’s Landing with dragons, they’ll destroy everything! You can’t control them!”
Ship singular
Yeah, at this point Danny was not really pissed, only slightly annoyed.
Goosebumps every time
Dany showed the best way to win a war; attack with your Air Force and your Navy (her dragons) then attack with your Marines (her Dothraki) and then use your Army (her Unsullied Army) for support and then used her Councillors for diplomacy.
Her story, her character - they were so formidable, so commendable, so praiseworthy... right up until they weren't. What a shame...
Daenerys should have stayed in Meereen. Re-establish the Targaryen dynasty in Valyria before even considering Westeros. Perhaps at the most just setup shop in Dragonstone for the time being.
What if the white walkers are coming? There is a damn reason why dragon herald comets appear in high fantasy settings.
This is when Game of Thrones was still good.
Even after season 1 of house of the dragons drogon is still the bomb.
