I love the fact Daenerys knew what the slave trader was saying the whole time. One of my favorite scenes in this show by far.
Redditors, what is your best "they didn't know I spoke their language" story?
The clown holding the dragon didn't even notice when she started speaking Valyrian.
@@spikespa5208 You mean when she was giving the Unsullied test commands? that's true roflmao
same here. I actually wasn't crazy about the show in general but this scene was friggin awesome.
@@spikespa5208 Missandei did, though! Did you see the way her head whipped around the instant Daenerys started speaking to the Unsullied? Absolutely awesome scene!
She earned my respect at every move in whole GOT series... Every scene of hers is legendary..She didn't deserve that ending
100% agree, this ending was a shity one ... unrespectful of all she has been thru ...
💯 agree, this is also my favourite scene
WE didn't deserve that ending.
I hated that ending
Actually she did deserve her fate...it was a story of madness..how her rise to power corrupted her..turned her into the thing she fought so hard against.....
The look of shock on Missandei's face when Daenerys speaks perfect Valyrian and the "Wait, what??" reaction from Jorah and Barristan are great details.
Meanwhile, the trader isn’t paying enough attention to realize how fucked he is.
Did Jora and Selmy know she spoke Valerian too?
@@VonJay I don’t think so.
@@VonJay None of them did. Also they didn't really notice until the army came to attention and they're like "what the shit?" *hand on sword
@@mazack00 just read that Jorah and all other houses taught Valyrian to their young lords. Also in the scene when the master talks ish about Jorah in Valyrian, Jorah reacts while pretending he doesn’t know it. Also Jorah speaks Dothraki. I’d think he’d know language of Essos if he knows Dothraki too.
So selmy is more likely surprised with what he’s seeing and not hearing.
We gotta take a moment to thank David J. Peterson, the dude who created the languages of the show (Dothraki and Valyrian). I think Valyrian is hands down the coolest language I've ever heard in a show or movie. He went out of his way to ensure it sounds as badass as possible. When Dany says "A dragon is not a slave", the line is made better by the great phonology he chose for the language. What a gem.
Klingon is pretty good
Yeah I believe it's the same guy@@markbernhardt6281
Nevermind, it totally isn't the same guy and I'm insane for thinking it was. Nonetheless they are both good languages for sure@@markbernhardt6281
And both are on Duolingo!
Fun fact! - he’s also the same guy they hired for the Dune movies to create the Chakobsa language that the Fremen and the Arraki natives speak !
No one talking about the mind-blowing voice job Emilia did in this scene??? Her voice gives me shivers and races my heart everytime I watch this epic moment
Every time Emilia said "dracarys" gave me goosebumps (and her delivery of "Nemebetas" at Meereen when she fires the slave collars into the crowd)... what's funny to me is her actual personality in real life is like if Christmas morning was a person
100%
Yes. Said with so much passion. You ever notice in the later series how she said it like some common English girl at the fish n chip shop chewing on sum gum. It was so disappointing.
This scene is considered epic. Not being overlooked at all.
I keep coming back to this scene every once in a while, it's so perfect to me and gives me goosebumps when she first starts talking Valerian, she's so badass here without having to call herself a badass.
Three things I LOVE about this scene:
1. The look that Missandei gives to the slave master when she hears Daenerys speak Valyrian.
2. The way Daenerys said, "Dracarys" so confidently.
3. The look of approval, sense of pride and the poise that Daenerys has after the baby dragon does her bidding.
Emilia Clarke was the perfect choice for this character. ❤️
Right? I don’t remember the name of the woman they originally cast for the pilot initially… but I cannot imagine anyone else for the role.
yhaa man
Missandei: Bruh you fu*ked
Missendei’s simple look is SO GOOD lol this scene gives me goosebumps every time
When She Handed Dracary’s Over To The Slaver And Dracary’s Started Screeching Oh Mom I Don’t Like Him. Then When She Called Her Son By His Name, Mom Wants Him Extra Crispy. 😅😅😅
♥️🔥🔥🔥🔥♥️
Still gives me a goosebump to this day, when she says, "Dracaris". Best scene ever from GOT
Me too😭
We are 3 here
Im 4th. Yess, actually and naturally the best scene
Me too 😍
Yes!
I love the side eye Missandei gives to her old master after Daenerys tells him that she understood everything that was said.
The best character ever. Still can't get over what the show did to her.
I agree it's like She took a crazy pill at the end of the series.
@@JohnPepp well she did watch her besties head get chopped off
The books make it a bit clearer that she is crazy and is very capable of her crazy turn. She has the Targaryen madness. The show just didn't show her thoughts like the books. If the 6th book ever comes out it will likely be about the end of the nights king. Then it will just be a decade till the 7th book a d we can see if Martin ends it better.
It isn't the show. You weren't paying attention. Yes they did fuck up a lot of things but this wasn't one of them
@@traviso7810 Hmm. not really. There is a series that did do a deep dive into the books to see if it indicated if she was on her way to the crazy train and there wasn't anything concrete or out of the norm compared to what all the other characters were doing in that world. There would have to be some serious changes in direction in the rest of the books to pull this off.
It's been 9 years butt this is the scene that I come back to at random moments of my life. In my opinion it is the best scene of the GoT. It was so surprising when watched the first time, you can feel how strong she was and how well planned was all of this.
Right?! One of the best scenes of the first few seasons, it just brought a smile to the face knowing ‘this bitch is going to get her army,’ after she had been in a state of strife for two+ seasons to that point.
Especially when Jorah and Barristan question her at the first meeting and she scolds them. We began to realize she may have the mettle for this Queen role/
It has been 9 years?!
I just did the same thing. This is by far her best scene
I do the same. Watched several times. Looks on the faces!!
When I am feeling overwhelmed, weak, mentally fried. Like I have no power to move forward, to overcome my issues. I come to watch this scene. And my will is renewed!
Drogon is oddly adorable - he sounds so sad when Mom’s walking away.
Drogom is very lovable
Have you understand brother what dragons says😒
I agree!
Yeah. Like he crying.🥺
omg I was thinking about it! like "MOOOOM, PLEEEEASE DON'T LEAVE ME HERE WITH THIS MAAAAAN" lol
That one Unsullied been waiting his whole life for that moment. Zero hesitation lol
2:28
Every slave owner in history knows you cannot raise an army of slaves.
Don’t gotta tell me twice, lady 😂
That had to be grey worm lol
Must be the one whose nipple was cut off😂
She gave him a dragon, but didn't say that he wouldn't be able to keep it. He gave her an army, and she made it her own. There's a difference between being in charge, and being in Command. Daenerys knows the difference.
How interesting to see that men could be commanded much easier than a dragon.
May we all be dragon-hearted in choosing to be kind, forgiving and patient in moments where it is hardest.
I would rather have the army cos they are humans.
The slave master didn't read the fine print and missed the part where the contract said "You may attempt to take my dragon for a walk" instead of "my dragon is now your slave".
I love how Jorah, who speaks Valyrian, grabs his sword the second she starts instructing the Unsullied, but Barriston has no idea what's going on until spears start stabbin'. Only then does he go "oh shit!" and grabs his sword too.
Yes, great detail.
With that in mind, in surprised he stood by with what Krasnys, or however you spell his name, was saying about Danny before.
@@MrJakeasaur98 He had to, so Butthead wouldn't clue in to the fact they both spoke it. She likely told him to restrain himself. Jorah may have been two-faced for a time, but he knew how to obey.
@@urthboundmisfit I meant during their initial encounter, rather than this particular scene. At this point, Jorah may have been informed about the charade, or perhaps not - it wouldn't matter because Dany told him and Barristan to never question her in front of others again. But prior to that, when they first met the slaver, he insulted Dany plenty, and Jorah didn't speak up at that point. I think Jorah's action in this scene speaks more to him recognising the situation from Dany's tone, rather than understanding the words, and his feelings towards her, where contrasted to Barristan, who is more restrained.
Jorah doesn’t speak Valaryan … he speaks common tongue and he speaks Dothraki.
One of the best scenes in the entire show, Epic stuff
Look at that majestic CGI leathery skinned flamethrower getting ready to own that motherfucker at 2:41. Who would have known that flamethrower would end up sabotaging a whole fucking army of Lannisters in season 7.

Definitely credit to GRRM for writing this badass scene, but credit to the actors and artists for executing it so well! I also like how the show waits to reveal that she speaks the language so we are surprised along with everyone else. The book has readers (and Missandei) know the entire time.
Missandei doesn't know until that bald guy gives her to Dany as a gesture of goodwill when they're bargaining over the Unsullied. (In the book.)
To all the people who hate the last 2 seasons as I do remember this: shes still epic in the books
Its comforting to remember that lmao
She doesn’t die in the books..?
@@aliferousedits._ no, the books aren't even finished yet
@@aliferousedits._ the show went way past where the books are at. The books are not even close to being done
Books Fire and Ice vs. TV Show GoT... No question the books are better.
The best part? Book readers still have at least 2 books left! Hopefully George R.R.R.R.R. MaR.tin finishes them before he leaves.
Haha!
Years later I‘m still getting shivers watching this.. that’s how much of an impact this show had. Why did they needed to ruin it in season 8 😩 whyyyyyy
Same bro!
I genuinely forgot how to breathe when she said Dracarys. Also tearing up a little. This scene is peak badassery

one of the best scenes and episodes of the series..her speech to the Unsullied after, freeing any of them that didnt want to fight for her..and none left...throws done the whip..and they leave with the dragons flying..epic
This is one of the best scenes in film history, it brings chills no matter how many times you watch it. They did this character justice and made her the stonger, powerful but caring character she was and who she should have ended the series as but in the end they were worried more about production and shock value then telling a good story. 😮💨
It's an iconic scene, one of the best for Dany and the whole series. I enjoy watching it from time to time.
I just love every moment of Jorah... The way he looks at her when he understood the fact that she can speak valeryan. And when he felt the rage in her voice while she was giving commands. Priceless
He didn't know she could (I hadn't see the series) ?
@@a.g.demada5263 right, he didn't know. In fact, nobody knew she could speak valeryan
@@beegaynocrime ah ok. Well, hiding your abilities is often a good strategy for beating your enemies
I think Jorah already knew. He definitely did in the books. But he played along when he saw she wasn't speaking it to the slaver. He could politick along with the best of them.
Jorah doesn’t speak Valyrian at all, above maybe recognising phrases like “dracarys”. He speaks westerosi and Dothraki. He never speaks in Valyrian. Valyrian (esp high Valyrian) is almost like a dead language across the narrow sea. It’s not just assumed she knows it as she was raised all over. She wasn’t brought up by family other than her (slightly) older brother.
I love Missandei's face when Dany says "Unsullied"
She like "OMG she know valyrian all along".
Hello I'm from fUtuRE😂🤫
And the look-back she gives the ruler that just screams "You are so fucked!"
Rip season 8 tho
It’s even better when she says Valyrian is her mother’s tongue, the way Missandei turns her head, you know the slave master is in deep......
Her face when she said Valyrian is her mother tongue ahhh
She was so badass yet so human at the same time. So many times she just ruled. Along with Arya, the best character in the show.
Props to Emilia Clarke's amazing performance, one of the strongest characters in the history of TV
excellent performance here.
She's Excellent in this Role !!!
The best part of this scene is when she asks whether they will fight for her as free men. The spears banging always gives me chills.
It was a genius move, really. Slaves she freed were always going to fight better and more loyally for her than sellswords ever would have. I don't think she even thought of it in those terms. She saw an oppressed people who needed their freedom. It just worked out better for her afterwards. (For a while.)
This scene is what got me into GOT. I came to a friends house to pick something up and it was on. Sat down and watched it without context. Went home and immediately started on Season 1, caught up by the next day. I’ve now read all the books and seen every episode probably 4 or 5 times over. This scene is amazing
A friend's house to "pick 'something' up"
Mhhmmmmm...
@@endokrin7897 Don't worry, it was just a dragon.
SAme. This is the scene I saw on TH-cam that made me decided to borrow GoT video files from my colleague to watch.
Omg same.
That was probably the single best scene in the whole show, and it had a lot of competition!
That was the day... the moment she became THE QUEEN. The rightful regent, the ruler we all loved, admired and respected. That was the day she became the queen of our hearts.
agreed a powerful scene.
This smile when she ordered Drogon to kill the stupid guy.

Drogo would have been so proud of her!
Honestly. I'd have to disagree. The Dorthraki way would never allow women to make their presence, let alone what they had in mind come into the forefront. Because of the customs and how he was brought up, I think hed have a serious problem with anyone but him having that kind of power. As a fan and follower of the story, the best scenario (unfortunately) was for him to pass.

I am currently reading A storm of Swords and I loved the chapter when Daenerys takes the Unsullied in Astapor.
What moved me specially was that she is trying to channel Rhaegar’s energy, she wants to get inspired by his strength, his braveness, the memories of him she doesn’t even have. She also wants to avenge him.
The night before the Unsullied purchase is made, she has a dream where she *is him*

It was the troop leader of that group.
I can't describe feeling that I have while I watch this scene. It's the best scene in all show. Moment when she says that she speaks Valyrian and she understood everything he was saying in hope that she wouldn't understand... Priceless.
Game of Thrones really was the best show of all time until the last season. Don't think I'll ever see a bigger fall from grace for the rest of my life.
Scenes like this were master level storytelling.
I didn't get in till season 4 and it was one of the most fantastic shows of my ancient days, except the last season which left me feeling robbed, raped and butchered, not to mention shocked and bewilderment I have to live with now. Can we sue for emotional damages To our lives?

This is really just flawless television. Not even just this scene, but all of season 3 is just this effortlessly dialed in force of nature.
My wife and I are rewatching the series now for the first time (I’m also a book reader), and it’s just so apparent why this became an international phenomenon. Tension builds throughout every scene and interaction, the plot is always moving toward, and the characters are amazing. Then, every so often you get scenes like THIS that just makes the hairs on your arm stand up in recognition of how goddamn perfect what you’re watching is.
George is a genius, and everyone involved in early Thrones deserves the highest of praise for a faithful and flawlessly executed adaption.
What makes this scene even better was when she began commanding the army the slave trader was so into having a dragon that he missed her talking. Then decided to call her a b*tch again not even realizing she could obviously understand him lmao
I’ve watched this scene a quadrillion times, love it, epic as epic can be!!!!! One of the best scenes in GOT, Danerys scenes with dragons are always spectacular and mind blowing.
Easily a contender for the best scene in the entire series.
this is my fave. and nect up is lady olenna when she tells jamie how she killed his son.
Missandei and Jorah's reaction with always be my favorite. Jorah looks so proud of her in that moment and Missandei is so smug cause she knows that master is done for and that Dany has known all the stuff he's been saying about her the whole time
The look she gives him when he says " The B** has her army" just pure snark and Missandei's when Daenerys says Valerian is her mother tongue. Back when the acting, and the writing were just epic.
