    Not a step out of place. The work of a truly professional artist. In fact completely faultless.

    Awesome! For a novice and always afraid of water colors is a great inspiration.
    1. The speed of the video was just right. I could see almost each stroke of yours. I could actually see you thinking after loading the brush before making a stroke.
    2. Very methodical, from start to finish. Easy to follow you in the sense understanding what you are 'saying ' without a word.
    3. No distraction in terms of any music or words. For me a great help to focus on your hand.
    I can go on and on....but great demo for sure and at this moment I am determined to try today a small portrait! Motivating, for sure.
    Thank you Christine!

    How do you know when you're done? I love it at minute 26, but it kept getting better and better! I tend to fuss too long.... when I should have stopped, ugh!

    • @chkarron
      @chkarron  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess experience helps, but mostly when it feels right. Try to finish your painting but not to overdue it by going over and over again, there is a point where you just need to let go, even when you don't like how it looks - leave it, next one will be better! I have had many paintings I didn't like and later looking back again I thought not so bad :)

    Incredible to watch,thank you so much for making this video Christine! What is that white handled brush you use?
    Oh,and do you stretch your paper beforehand? It never seems to cockle...

    • @Dibujarsoluciones
      @Dibujarsoluciones 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ahhahahah never seems to! good question!

    • @chkarron
      @chkarron  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's 3/4" Royal & Langnickel flat brush (materials list is in video description) But you can use any brush you are comfortable with - I just like the bigger flat one because when I turn it the strokes are either thin or wide, whatever I need at this moment. I tape my paper before I start. It always depends how much water I use. In this one I didn't wet the paper, so it cockles less, but it still does a little - I guess it's not visible in the video because my light comes from above. When working wet on wet it buckles more (like my previous video), but I just work with it :)

    • @OldSchoolChinny
      @OldSchoolChinny 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Really? Wet on wet buckles more?? Thought it'd be less so...I've got a lot to learn still. I know what you mean about using wide brushes for detail - I often use a calligraphy-nib drawing pen for the same reason. And just a simple cheap Royal & Langnickel eh? That's reassuring then!😊
      Mind you,Grumbacher brushes ain't so cheap...😯

    • @chkarron
      @chkarron  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The more water the more the paper buckles, at least when I paint :) All the best Tim! Happy painting!

      Sorry, I have no idea, I live in Canada. Try to contact local artists and ask them where they get their paints from!? But you can also mix many colours with those three colours!

    • @chkarron
      @chkarron  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Danica! Thank you! Yes, it is a mix of burnt umber, yellow ochre, brown madder and some darker paint mix on my palette - I made a video about how I usually mix skin colors, if you like check it out: th-cam.com/video/-ge6z4Z3OV8/w-d-xo.html

      I had another question: what side of the paper is better for watercolor? Texture or smooth side? I'm partial to tooth side up since I'm mostly an acrylic painter but I'm learning more watercolor. What do you like more?

    • @chkarron
      @chkarron  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For watercolor I use the top side of watercolor paper, which is usually meant to be painted. But I know what you mean - watercolor paper back side is perfect for acrylic :) Watercolor paper is a topic for itself - there are many youtube videos which explain it pretty well. For me it depends what I am painting - how loose or detailed I want to go - I have my favourite papers for just watercolor, then again different paper for mixed media and illustrations.

    Which paper use better for water colour painting.

    • @chkarron

      Watercolor paper - the thicker ones (300g/140lb) work better.
