  • I ride my Yamaha Tenere Rally to find some local spots so that I can start learning Motorcycle photography, and learn photography in general.
It's not easy, but I knew it wasn't going to be!
It's a lot harder going out in to the wild to try putting things in to practice, but it's the challenge that I like and it's very rewarding to look at what I took, and an enjoyment to try and figure out what I need to do to improve from this episode..... I already have a list of lessons and look forward to putting applying the lessons from this episode.
I can see why photographers like golden hour and blue hour!

If you could give the vid a 👍🏻 I'd really appreciate it! This isn't a full on part of the channel, while I run the engine in on the Tenere I'm playing with photography to better understand the camera and also add a bit of filler. When the bike is run in, it'll be used the way I intended to use it and we'll have some off-road shenanigans!! I'm enjoying the bike and have some bits to add to it so I'll be making that video soon. The Husqvarna Will come out to play very soon!
    Thanks for watching, Legends!! 👌🏻
PS. I'll take my helmet off and not walk and talk with it on in future -far too much heavy breathing haha!

Nice to be on the journey with you. Might be worth checking out the bridge by the brickworks, it’s been renovated too. Some nice shots to be taken on the river

Good stuff dude, should have wheeled the bike past those bollards at the end.
That bridge would definitely be a nice shot for the bike if it wasn't for those bollards.
Also did that Big wheel have an electrical point on it?

I did think about it but was cold at that point so just focussed on getting some shots and getting out of there 😄.
I can’t remember what it had on it but there was a warning on the side as well. I’ll have a look the next time I go up 👍🏻

Lovely vid Mal! As a slightly more experienced photographer than I am a rider, try having a foreground, mid and background in your shots. Foreground elements (even things like leaves, blades of long grass, fences) which are much closer to the camera than your bike will be thrown out of focus by a low f stop (aperture) and create some depth / layering in your photos. Might be worth a try!
Also always worth trying different angles and heights, we’re so used to seeing from ‘head height’ that shooting from low or high (and combining with some foreground elements) can take shots away from looking like our normal POV.
Keep going! Learning by playing and doing is the way, good on you!
Can I ask how you put together your vids? want to try making some TH-cam vids myself but not sure if there’s a relatively simple bit of software I can use to put together videos.
Also, if you’re using external mics like Rodes, is it relatively easy to sync up sound with your GoPro? Or is it all wired in?
    Loved the vid. Subbed!

Thanks for watching, subscribing and taking the time to share the great advice.
I’ll do my best to put it in to action on my next outing 👌🏻.
Thank you, I’ll definitely keep going, It’s such a fun thing to do and I’m excited to go again - I can see how people get drawn in to photography 😄.
Of course mate, I’m more than happy to share…. Here goes 😄:
Software - I use is Final Cut Pro (FCPX) on a MacBook which was quite expensive at around £300, but it’s a one off payment for the ‘app’ so worth the money in the long run unlike premier pro which is a monthly subscription.
DaVinci Resolve is a free software that is supposed to be really good, and has an option to upgrade if the requirement is there. I don’t have any experience with it unfortunately though so can’t offer my opinion there.
FCPX is a little bit of a weird one to start out with but once the library is set up it’s all drag and drop - I drop from an external hard drive to the timeline and then get to work to save on filling the laptop’s memory. All the transitions, text and effects are all included plus a load of other stuff I will probably never use haha!
      Cameras:
POV - GoPro Hero 9 with Media mod so that I can put the R0DE/purple panda mic in to the media mod and record. No need for syncing, it records all the audio while recording👍🏻.
Handle bar cam - insta 360 oneX2 and I use the free insta software to reframe the video so that it tracks me at all times then drag it in to the editing timeline. It’s a bit time consuming to do, but I like something about the footage that I can’t put my finger on 😄.
To sync the GoPro and the 360 cam, I just clap a couple of times when both cameras are recording so that I can see the audio spike in the editing suite, and then line them up as A and B roll.
Helmet mount - I’ve been using the Dango Design gripper mount for my latest helmet but have a 3D printed mount a friend made me for the helmet I’m wearing in this video.
Hopefully that info helps satisfy the initial questions, and if you’ve got any more, don’t hesitate to drop me a line…. Email me if you’d like, I’m always happy to help and can add some pics of the helmet setup and an editing timeline of a video as well if you’d like 👍🏻. TH-cam has been fun and I hope you enjoy the journey as well 👍🏻.

Hey Mal, I've been considering a Tenere too.
Doing a trip around Europe in early July & can't decide if I should stick with the R1150GS or go to the Tenere.
With regards to your photography you should try using a tripod, wait for the right lighting or use your own, consider pictures from unusual angles, look out for ugly things like bollards & do what you can to obstruct them. I'd have put the bike in front of them, lay down on the other side of the bridge for the perspective shot of the bike.
Enjoy the learning process of photography, it's fun!

Hi Angus, hope you’re well mate!
Sounds like you’ve got a great trip lined up! It’s funny how you mention that because after the last ride out I done on the T7 to a local race, I can’t decide if I should take the Tenere or the GS to do the NC500 in June….. I haven’t travelled very far on 70mph roads yet to make my mind up, but the last time I rode it, I done a short spell on a dual carriageway and It made me think about the BMW. The T7 is comfy and has a nice riding position but I need to cover more miles before I can make up my mind. I was hoping to get out on the weekend just gone, but the weather was terrible and I’m not well so just got stuck at home and now I’m back in Oxford hoping the weather at home is better on the weekend coming. If it is, I’ll give you some feedback 👍🏻
Thanks for the advice! That sounds awesome, I’ll have a go of that and let you know how it goes. I certainly will enjoy it, it seems to be the thing I needed to bring more excitement to riding and I’m really looking forward to getting out again and having a play, it’s really addictive ay haha!
