It's tool assisted, which means he can save automatically where ever he wants, and he can slow the game down to make the jumps more accurate in the game! He explains it in the text... So he really isn't playing the game like the average gamer... But, even for tool-assisted, it's a VERY good run! Keep up the good work, rogueyoshi!
I have been playing Megaman on and off my whole life and have never seen someone play it like this. You literally have to dedicate thousands of hours to run through this game like this.
@HanQ In all fairness, it does state, even in the video, that it's a TAS run. I really appreciate the fact that the creator of this vid fully admits it, and that does make this fun to watch.
This is a sick video!! I liked the precision. I would be scared to mess up but this player must have been practicing 24/7. He got all the mavericks the second time with the hodjucken punch!! Good job
After 5 years of watching various TAS runs of many different games, this remains, far and away, the most entertaining video I've ever seen, and I'm not a huge fan of the Mega Man series.
man this is amazing X2 is the only one of the X series that i've never beaten.didn't even make it to Sigma-.- also the "fire uppercut"-thing never even heard of it. incredible. I will now start to play the game again^^
man this game was SO AWESOME when I was a kid. damn.... this game was jus the thing to me... it was just so cool.... I'm sorry for repeating the same words over and over again. I miss those times..
I'm not normally one to make these kinds of comments but, at the time of this post, 74 people didn't read the description telling everyone who's read it and those who SHOULD have read it that this is a Tool Assisted Run.
Look in the video description. You download an emulator for the game, then slow it down and play it throughout. You also use "save states" which saves every little bit you do, so if you mess up you can go back to where you were and try again. When you finish the speed run you speed the finished product up to normal speed to look as if the player(s) were as fast as they are at reacting and playing the game.
Oh god this video is hilarious. The way he totally destroys the programmer's intentions is amazing, nice use of the grappling hook there to save precious time.
I want to teach me to play megaman x2, because you're the best, by the way this video is what I needed, best video I have not seen this in my life, I've solved all the problems I had, really.
tbh this guy sis not say he wont use glitches and bugs, he just show you what u can do/find in this game and in half an hour he got trough entire game, and made fun video of it, but still a pewpew vid =D ^^
basically, "luck" in these games are all algorhytms with various outcomes depending on the actions of the player. These can be memorized to a degree to give a player an advantage.
sos un genio!!!!!! lo pasaste rapidisimo y encima agarrando todo!!!!!! y esa capsula secreta del appercut de fuego sirve un monton los matas a to2 al toque!!!!!!
it's not a speedrun done by someone with a pad. It's a tool-assisted speedrun, read the description. btw the World Record for a speedrun on this game is pretty damn impressive too (33:14 by exosda)
What's interesting though is that most emulators allow for TAS's to happen. The goal of emulation is to try and be as accurate as possible to the original system, which would require a lot of time spent and would require more processes than what ZSNES and SNES9x are able to deliver. (Just throwing out random mumbo jumbo :D)
while watching this it's fun to imagine that this is how it would REALLY happen, if mega man were real. cause he's that determined and that well-designed and just that damn good. :)
Yes some nonMegamaniacs should believe it, but still don´t lose credits for the movie, some errors you can see it when you touch some enemys and you did not recieve any damage, and some highest jumps that you can really doin the real game. But, great video. Make me remember I have to play for 10000time.
The completition time is 31:42. TAS timing is from powering on the game until the last input needed to beat it. Ignore the length of the video encode, that one doesn't matter.
I take that back the first comment was right, they played this on super slow speed on an emulator, and they used save states so if they messed up they could go back and fix it with out you noticing
To know how to pull off the tricks, to know how the game decides what to drop from enemies, to know boss weaknesses, to know the fastest way of movement (down to the frame) etc etc
This has been explained over and over again in the comments. In Mega Man X and X2, there is a glitch that causes the bullet to be stronger if you are dashing / dash jumping off the wall. It only works if you maintain the momentum while you shoot and when the shot hits the target, and you'll notice that X never stops dashing during boss fights. So there's no cheats, hacks, or anything of that sort. It's a glitch in the game.
no this is the kind of stuff that impresses me. I only wish that i could have as much skill as that. I wish that I could be fast like that without an emulator
As cheesy as lots of games on super nintendo were, the Megamans were always legitimate games. Megaman X will always be my fav cause it's the original X and it was such a sick game.
You have to wonder how Sigma would feel, after orchestrating an elaborate scheme of reploid rebellion and world domination, to have it single-handedly thwarted in about half an hour. Rather deflated, I'd imagine.
@MorlonX If there isn't anything in that room that means you didn't get every upgrade in the game, that only appears if you've gotten 100% of the upgrades X can have in this game, all 8 heart tanks, sub tanks and parts you also need to be at full health, I suggest using a sub tank if you take a hit where the extra life is.
The only flaw I see in this run is a slight error at 2:22 where he doesn't quite make the jump and spends a frame or two against the wall. It's only a slight flaw in an otherwise perfect run. I absolutely love watching this.
I agree, Zero's parts are collectable items so they should have been included in the run. I'm sure the player could have used savestates to make sure the X Hunters landed in stages he wanted.
That one... A classic thing in MMX that I personally use to take down those minibosses (no invis time ^^) quickly... The first shot when you dash deals double damage. Also as a note... What's with everybody whining about TASes? you jealous at the seemingly sickening skills? I mean, these videos are there for your own enjoyment. Now enjoy ^^
According to the video details, one of the criteria for this speed run was to use save states. So the player is probably not this good normally. Maybe they are, but they also might've used save states to get the best possible playthrough. :)
It's tool assisted, which means he can save automatically where ever he wants, and he can slow the game down to make the jumps more accurate in the game! He explains it in the text... So he really isn't playing the game like the average gamer...

@HanQ

This was my very 1st game on SNES and now it's out on the virtual console for the Wii.
great job in saving the world in under 32 minutes.
This is a sick video!! I liked the precision. I would be scared to mess up but this player must have been practicing 24/7. He got all the mavericks the second time with the hodjucken punch!!
Good job
Very entertaining, I've never even thought of using the grappling line the way you have before.
After 5 years of watching various TAS runs of many different games, this remains, far and away, the most entertaining video I've ever seen, and I'm not a huge fan of the Mega Man series.
Absolutley amazing. Anyone who ever played this game knows what you've accomplished! DAMN GOOD!
this is simply amazing, I never knew you could use the special ability to grab the weapon upgrade and I considered myself GOOD at megaman
All this time I thought that the Strike Chain was almost useless. This video finally showed us its true purpose!
Still the most enjoyable tas to watch to date for me.
Goddamn, nice use of the Strike Chain, man, I would never think to use it that way.
man this is amazing
X2 is the only one of the X series that i've never beaten.didn't even make it to Sigma-.-
also the "fire uppercut"-thing
never even heard of it.
incredible.
I will now start to play the game again^^
4:00 is just unreal. iv spent AGES trying to do that without the airdash and you make it look so easy >.
thanks a lot for the video man, i remember my childhood with this video is amazing.
The boss fights in this are a joy to watch.
Awesome :D Love how Dr. Light says "YOUR SO COOL, IM NOT WORTHY, IM NOT WORTHY" when he gave you the Shoruken :D
TAS and megaman games were made for each other :D
Amazing work, this is beyond gaming, almost a work of art
Excellent job. Megaman X games are some of the best games ever!
man this game was SO AWESOME when I was a kid. damn.... this game was jus the thing to me... it was just so cool....
I'm sorry for repeating the same words over and over again. I miss those times..
Y'all have sum of the more entertaining game videos
NICE
I'm not normally one to make these kinds of comments but, at the time of this post, 74 people didn't read the description telling everyone who's read it and those who SHOULD have read it that this is a Tool Assisted Run.
Good job, rogue.
Your internet alchemy impressed me.
I am not saying they are bad games (In fact I'm a hardcore AC fan). I am just saying that Mega Man X is a whole new level of game-genius!
the first level with the bike music is freakin epic and so is this speedrun:)
I just found a new appreciation for Wire Sponge and his chain shot. o.o Epic.
a lot of people complain about tool-assisted speed run.. I just don't know.. I think it's really nice to see how a perfect playthrough would be..
Its really amazing how well you know this game and how you can manipulate it with ease
brings back memories. this was my favorite X game.
man if a real person ever does this without tas is a god
jeez, that part just before flame stag was unreal!
I beat this game as a kid at least 10 times but I never got that crazy uppercut! That was awesome
To this day. I consider X1, X2, X3 the best games of all time. No fucking CoD or AC can compete with this level of awesomeness!
Notice how he got all the powerups! THANKS DUDE!!!
That 1st X-Hunter stage was the coolest run ever!
Look in the video description.
You download an emulator for the game, then slow it down and play it throughout. When you finish the speed run you speed the finished product up to normal speed to look as if the player(s) were as fast as they are at reacting and playing the game.
ive beaten this game several times...but not like this. insane practice my friend!
Oh god this video is hilarious. The way he totally destroys the programmer's intentions is amazing, nice use of the grappling hook there to save precious time.
Why would you dislike this video? People upset that this run is faster than theirs?
I want to teach me to play megaman x2, because you're the best, by the way this video is what I needed, best video I have not seen this in my life, I've solved all the problems I had, really.
Faster and precise!!! Very cool!! You are good man!!
+Eduardo Marques LATINO 4 life !
Its obvious, this is a TAS;
Hear that?
That's the sound of my childhood shattering.
These do have skill. It takes a lot of planning to put together this masterpiece.
You can always just find a normal speedrun somewhere else on TH-cam.
tbh this guy sis not say he wont use glitches and bugs, he just show you what u can do/find in this game and in half an hour he got trough entire game, and made fun video of it, but still a pewpew vid =D ^^
Zero: Hey, X. May I use those two new moves that you learned from Dr. Light?
X: SHOR U KEN! ^_^
I love this series and its Street Fighter references.
Wow, I looove the black zero at the end. Impressive...
*bows before you* You are the master.
basically, "luck" in these games are all algorhytms with various outcomes depending on the actions of the player. These can be memorized to a degree to give a player an advantage.
That goes to show how badass Zero is... He takes two insta-kills to the face, gets back up and STILL breaks the floor with his fist!
Man, if Ken play this game, he definitely can throw these robots to space.
sos un genio!!!!!! lo pasaste rapidisimo y encima agarrando todo!!!!!! y esa capsula secreta del appercut de fuego sirve un monton los matas a to2 al toque!!!!!!
Single greatest comment I have yet read on TH-cam.
Wow, impressive! Keep up the good work! :)
@dayknowsalchemy He mentions that it's tool-assisted in the description.
At first I was like, Holy shit this guy has some amazing reactions and response on his controller. Then I read TAS... Oh well, still fun to watch.
it's not a speedrun done by someone with a pad. It's a tool-assisted speedrun, read the description.
btw the World Record for a speedrun on this game is pretty damn impressive too (33:14 by exosda)
you made me feel sad for those robots, almost looks like megaman is the evil one LOL
This was my first megaman game. What I wouldn't give to get this back.
"X"pectacular!...so incredible, it's the fastest walktrough rockman video I've ever seen!!!...could you do another one?!
This guys are not Gamers, this guys are Artists
I love how Flame Stag is taken down with nothing but lemons
You're my hero, man!
while watching this it's fun to imagine that this is how it would REALLY happen, if mega man were real. cause he's that determined and that well-designed and just that damn good. :)
Best easter egg ever in a mega man game!!
True, they did use super slow speed and save state, but your x buster will do more damage if you shoot while dashing, even if it isn't charged.
Yes some nonMegamaniacs should believe it, but still don´t lose credits for the movie, some errors you can see it when you touch some enemys and you did not recieve any damage, and some highest jumps that you can really doin the real game. Haha, it got so serious when he got to the end.
And then he got the final Capsule.
Every boss after that was a one-shot.
Ikuse! Shoooryuken!
Thats one killer shoryuken, even Ryu would be jealous of that.
Sigma: "Megaman, I'm going to rule the wo-"
Megaman: "SHORYUKEN!! I'm sorry, what now?"
XD!!
@heho26 You're right. It's more so for entertainment, and most who post tool assisted speed-runs specify that the video is for entertainment.
Props, that was sick!
All hits are taken because they save time in one way or another.
There are no mistakes like that in a Tool Assisted Speedrun.
So apparently mad scientists have crossed dimensions in order to fuse Spider-Man with the Flash in robot form.
In case it wasn't obvious, this is a very old TAS.
To know how to pull off the tricks, to know how the game decides what to drop from enemies, to know boss weaknesses, to know the fastest way of movement (down to the frame) etc etc
ok it's like you played 15minutes '-'
OMFG! thats what i call a true player!!
This has been explained over and over again in the comments. In Mega Man X and X2, there is a glitch that causes the bullet to be stronger if you are dashing / dash jumping off the wall. megaman x is the best series of all time
rogueyoshi..
YOUR skill is so amazing!!!
no this is the kind of stuff that impresses me. I only wish that i could have as much skill as that. I wish that I could be fast like that without an emulator

I love u man, no homo. Its just so entertaining to watch this! hyperfast
fast pace! you really beat the game in quite a style! Just to ask! Was this an easy mode? Anyways nice walkthrough!
TAS or not, that's impressive.
@MorlonX
If there isn't anything in that room that means you didn't get every upgrade in the game, that only appears if you've gotten 100% of the upgrades X can have in this game, all 8 heart tanks, sub tanks and parts you also need to be at full health, I suggest using a sub tank if you take a hit where the extra life is.
20:29 awesome song

lol kicks it like a soccar ball @14:42. The best in the X series, best gamplay and soundtrack :]
Same! I usually raged at that tricky jump in order to get the X-buster capsule.
i'm a big fan of the insane ability to switch weapons instantly. i'm guessing tool-assisted for that?
That one... A classic thing in MMX that I personally use to take down those minibosses (no invis time ^^) quickly... The first shot when you dash deals double damage.

I luv playing this game,i never get tired from it and i still play it even today and still try to beat it fast but not too fast =P!
