10 million light years, the last ship of humanity contains a single copy of Doom. They will wake up once it goes through all 4 chapters of Doom 1 to then colonize the unknown.
I'd love a version of this in a more pure ascii mode. I mean, it is, but like with monsters and your guns also being ascii art and not filtered through whatever ascii you're using here. There's minimod where everything is as minimalist as possible.
This is one of the less successful visual targets. Can you render to grayscale and then maybe translate to a wider character set than just #176/#177/#178?
@nneeerrrd Redefining the character set would only work on EGA and VGA, and the existing 16- and 256-color targets for EGA/VGA already work much better, so I would discourage that. Also, redefining the character set is not as fast on real hardware as it is in dosbox; it would, again, be slower than just supporting a 16-color mode.
@@nneeerrrd CGA doesn't support redefinable fonts. EGA, VGA, and the Hercules InColor card do, but not CGA and MDA. So I'm not sure what you're referring to...
It becomes so much more visually cohesive when I take my glasses off.
!!!!! First I thought it was a joke... until I tried it and suddenly it became seeming kinda playable.
It is true, i have 7,5 degrees of myopia, and it is true
The characters bend with nearby characters, interesting
omg it does lol
I have heard that even people who wear glasses do not require antialising. not having glasses is their antialising.
Some losers out there spending millions to make AI generate doom when it will never look as good as this.

brings new meaning to the phrase "only beatable if you keep moving".
"You know guys, it's almost like MDA isn't well suited for DooM..."
"NONSENSE!"
Squinting your eyes makes it actually look much more comprehensible
This probably would've been really cool in the 80s
chainsaw sound is my new alarm
I like when the moving gray blob is blobbed by a blob that makes funny sound...
... Jokes aside, i love "Doom on everything". Nice one! :)
And those good old speaker sound effects!
i could tell when he finished a lvl, it really is playable in some parts.

for some reason this is nightmare fuel for me.
Oh, how so?!

these are all IBM PC character set characters.
The game looks playable, only complaint is the intermission screen
those are some crunchy end screens, ngl
This reminds me of Jim Leonard.
Wild
Awsome!
Woah
I'd love to see this on an IBM 5155 or an original Compaq Portable
ya if i squint i can see everything properly. decent.
It's amazing how you can get even worse graphics than the SNES version
Also PC speaker FTW!
OMG this is horrendous! 😂
Any plans for using this mode in Rick Dangerous 2? 😜
@DookNookim That would be something, don't tempt me 😂
Squint Doom!
I guess you coudl as well play it without any display ..

Does this work with brutal doom?
It's DOSbox so no
was the “loading screen” drawn in Notepad?😂
Actually, it was created with CGAArt, but that tool doesn't really support this video mode.

Yep. I would also make rendering sprites using dynamic character redefining of ASCII symbols 128-255.

I could try using all the characters instead of just #0/#176/#177/#178/#219.
@@JimLeonardwell, character font redefining worked for me pretty good on an 8088 with CGA clone. Not on MDA, though

Port it on the C128!
Can it bad apple?
Oh please, weebs want it to show the tofu girls eating the apple, it was never about the technical side.
@@RoastCDuck Yeah but those tofu girls were cool at least! :D
