    This is just amazing work and what a great truck to drive. I really like that you did not compromise the driver and passenger area. A lot of people let that area get beat-up. I think it's important that you keep the area you spend so much time in just as nice as the rest of the vehicle. A very high level of work, on this Series 80!

    • @oferbruhis9942

      The shower is made of two square tubes sticking 90 degrees from the roof rack 4" long. I used 4 aluminum poles from an old tent that bend into 1/2 circle and stick into these tubes. The material is ripstop nylon.

    Very cool rig thank you for sharing. I have 2 question. How long are the 2 pvc tanks ? And how do you fill them .

    • @oferbruhis9942
      @oferbruhis9942 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The PVC tanks hold 9 gallons each. The go across the frame parallel to each other. The blog on OVERLAND BOUND has a sketch of the layout. Its a bit complicated, because you need to cycle hot water with the circulating pump, and keep the tank open to the atmosphere because the hot water expands - otherwise you will blow the tank. There are three taps on the bottom of the tanks. One for the compressed air/overflow/breather, one for the cold and one for the hot water. You will get a better understanding if you go to the blog...

    beautiful rig Ofer. currently own a hdj81 with the 1hdt 12valve, so this was amazing to watch.
    few questions though,
    1. did you overhaul tht diesel engine when you got it? oversize pistons? injector pump pverhaul?
    2. front mount intercooler? brand? homemade? im thinking of adding one from the hilux model 1kd.
    3. did you get the control boxes for the lockers?

    • @oferbruhis9942
      @oferbruhis9942 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. The engine was not overhauled. All the 'rubber' parts (hoses, belts, seals) were replaced including the timing gears and harmonic balancer and water pump. The injectors and pump were serviced. We did a compression test and it was per spec.
      2. The intercooler is made by PDI in AUZ. www.performancedieselintercoolers.com.au/products.
      3. The lockers came from a doner rolled vehicle with all the parts required including the control box. Every 80 series has all the harnesses in the vehicle so it is 'plug and play'
      I also highly recommend the stainless PPD exhaust system from AUZ. ppdperformance.com.au

    Amazing build Ofer!! The FT is a rare find. I am amazed that you get 20-26mpg. How much does the rig weigh?? ~6000 lbs wet?? I have a 1997 diesel G wagon with an OM606 factory turbo 6. As it stands my vehicle weighs 5500 lbs but I get 14.5 mpg if I stay below 70mph. Range is my pet peeves. How do you get 26?? Slower speeds on the highway or is the Toyota diesel that efficient??

    • @oferbruhis9942
      @oferbruhis9942 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't drive fast. Stay below 70. Adjust very patiently the injector pump. I just made a trip from the SF Bay Area to Arizona and got 23.6 mpg. I did not weigh the vehicle but I took a lot of weight off before starting the build. The seats, bumpers, trailer hitch, ABS and AT (put a 5 speed). I'll try to sneak onto a weight station one of these days. The link below to the build with the details is bloged on OVERLAND BOUND and you can email me there specific questions.

    • @oferbruhis9942
      @oferbruhis9942 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wrote a blog on ‘Overland Bound Rig Builds’. My user name is OB1. You can do a search: building a home in an 80 series LandCruiser. The tanks are protected. Never cracked or leaked after 40k miles. All plumbing is 1/4” copper with compression fittings. I did wrap the ‘balls’ of the compression fittings with Teflon tape before closing them. That did the trick. You can email me directly through the Overland Bound website or app. Also @big_red_adventures on IG.

      You have to go to the DMV and do a fuel change in the registration for an existing CA registered vehicle. It is almost impossible (or very expensive) to register an out of state Diesel Toyota in CA.

      It's a hit and miss. You can try in a remote place like Shasta or a small place in the central Valley. You may get lucky. Other option is to register it in another state.

    What was the dmv process for a diesel truck?

    • @oferbruhis9942
      @oferbruhis9942 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Victor,
      The key is to go to a DMV not in a metropolitan area. Central Valley, Shasta area, etc. Say you want to do a fuel swap. They need to see the engine, a sticker 'diesel' in the fuel cap area, and the engine itself - that it looks like a diesel :). If they send you to a referee station, you are doomed. Go to anther DMV. Good luck.
      Cheers

    FJ80 converted to diesel is now a HJ80. Is the engine a 1HZ? - nice rig.

      Most 105s were equipped with the naturally aspirated 4.2 liter 1HZ engine, some may have been sold with the 4.0 l petrol as well. They were not only sold in Australia, having been available in South Africa too.

    Hello, How much will the diesel conversions cost estimate.

    • @oferbruhis9942
      @oferbruhis9942 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Drive train runs about $9000 for the 1HDFT/H151. If you want to make sure that the engine is like 'new', then parts will be around $2-3K and labor $3-6K depending if you want to service injectors and pump.
