This was the last piece of the puzzle for me… wrist action. Pointing the palm away from you and through the ball is the exact ‘feeling’ I use. It keeps the club face square throughout the swing. It doesn’t look ‘square’ cuz of the wrist action and elbow bend… and it’s the difference between ‘feel’ and ‘real’ that makes this swing thought work in action

This guy is my new favorite golf YT instructor. I've taken week long courses and trained with several instructors, etc. My swing wasn't producing results. This single video explained my loop at the top because my palm was facing me.
Hands down the best golf instructor on YT.

I discovered this the past couple weeks and what a difference maker. As someone mentioned it also improves the swing and lag. I have been using a different feel with the left hand. Like a gear with the left hand pushing and the right hand pulling. I love how Eric gives alternate feels for different people. So feel this in the LH as a pull against the RH, or the Spidey palm with the RH.

What I love about this lesson is how many other things it fixes. In order to show our palm to the ball we have to stay down with our butt back so that the right elbow can pass in front of the torso. Also this fixes the likelihood of someone casting at the top.

So you explained this just in a different way in another video, and gave a drill to get that feel. That video and this one, changed how consistently I strike the ball. This has been a total gamechanger for me! I have always struggled with periods where I just could not hit it solidly but never really understood why and lately have been trying to square up the club face with body rotation and timing. Obviously, very inconsistent results followed. This video combined with your video about leading with the right arm/elbow have really helped me turn my game around. More distance, height and consistency as I know what I'm trying to accomplish now with each swing. Thanks Eric, your videos are pure gold! Where are you located in the winter. The wrists have been my primary focus for about a month. I was "S'ing" the ball earlier this year. Was looking at my wrist angles and they were terrible. Watching Eric's very simple approach to wrist angles has helped me alleviate the issue. It caused me to draw the ball hard left(I'm right handed) which then forced a great and more effective rotation to fix that. Now I'm hitting high draws, flushing the ball and added about 15% distance. Thank you Eric! So the right wrist cupped somewhat pronounced not only fixed the s's but also improved my hip rotation! Key to the swing

      Hey Tracy!
Glad to hear you're having success with it!
I do not have any suggestions for that without seeing it on video--I would just be guessing too much.
      A) Are you REALLY doing what you FEEL?
      B) When and how much are you doing it
      C) what other pieces do you have in your swing to match this? Grip? Body rotation, etc etc
Too many variables....BUT....if we could see on video we could give you a simple answer :)

Great video Eric. 2 things I really struggle with this though as I have used it a lot in the past. I find it works well with irons but I really struggle with it with driver and woods. Everything is a duck hook and the face is excessively closed with these clubs. I’m unsure which plane to use in the takeaway (around or up). It would be useful to have a video on this with driver. Secondly, I find it makes folding the right arm awkward and unnatural.

at impact w/ "show me" palm... does release occur by rolling right forearm to high finish?

    • @CogornoGolf

      Good question
At impact its more "show the ball"
From there will be SOME right forearm rotation (pronation).....to the point where the butt of the club points back on the ball/target line in follow through and the club face is roughly toe right on top of heel

I've been working on something like this for the past few years. I recently incorporated the lower body mechanics you discussed in the last few videos. I preach to all the golfers who ask me about my swing to watch this channel. How you present the info just resonates with me. I don't think I've missed a video in months.
I do have one question. Which way is the putter shaft supposed to lean in the putting stroke? I recently switched from a forward shaft lean to what feels like a back shaft lean. It seems to really help me get better shoulder "rocking" in my stroke. I'm lest wristy. I'm trying to take the small muscles out of my putting stroke as I've heard that in stressful situations small muscles will lock up and big muscles will not. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.
Thank you for all the great content.

Putting shaft----on average you would see it be close to straight up and down to slight lean forward.
Players will vary from those two positions depending on their putting style, loft on the putter, ball position, etc.
Vary rarely will if be leaning back......
But if you perform better with it all good
I would really need to see your putting on video to say for sure and know your putter loft to say with certainty.....send swings into www.cogrnogolf.com when you're ready and we can help!

Hi Eric; when the trail wrist is bent back in that position, does it stay there thru impact? It would really eliminate the flip at the bottom but It seems that if you hit it fat in that position you could really injure that wrist. I understand the concept but seems a little dangerous if not done properly.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Mike!
Keeping the trail wrist bent back forever (as a drill, or say...a punch shot out on the course) would actually move the low point the most forward and all things equal, help prevent fat shots and ensure you hit ball first, ground second.
The opposite of that would be throwing/flipping your trail wrist the most and too early...which moves the low point the most back and causes fat shots.
The trail wrist DOES need to throw/release in a standard swing/shot...I talk through the timing in this video:
      th-cam.com/video/HapUqIlV_MI/w-d-xo.html

What isn’t commonly understood or explained well is the desired interaction between club, ball and turf in an iron shot. What creates added compression and spin loft in iron shots is a downward blow of the club actually pressing the ball down into the turf creating resistance which is what creates the added compression and spin loft as the ball releases compared with a flat sweeping stroke which is how most beginners swing.

Having just watched Brian Menzella on Be better Golf. His take is that "shaft lean" is a recipe for disaster especially with long irons unless you have a 95+ swing speed. He also said the majority of decent amateurs have zero or very little shaft lean on impact. Wonder what your take is on this?
I am having this issue myself since introducing right hand flex, whereby my PW to 7 irons are compressed really nicely, but i struggle to get 6-4 in the air. I also find i now miss left with the occasional starts left and goes left shapped shot.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely it depends on speed
More speed------you can have MORE shaft lean (any club)
Less speed----you can have LESS shaft lean (any club)
When you have less speed you want less shaft lean to get the ball in the air....
      But want to be careful.....
If you have NO SHAFT LEAN at impact (like the guy in my lesson from the video) that isn't the goal. That will lead to low point issues (contact) most often. So you want SOME......how much....depends on speed.
ALSO.....perfectly good to have MORE with shorter clubs and LESS with longer clubs (that's normal)
But lets not get carried away......if you have TOO MUCH shaft lean.....you would be in the 1% of the golfing population. 99% I see have too little shaft lean for their speed (we do 1,000 online lessons per month so I see a lot of swings)
So if you get to the point of too much lean thats like you are a billionaire and have a big tax bill to handle. Good problem.
If thats true for you thats such an easy fix.....just throw sooner with the longer clubs!

GOOD players who do it too much just learn to get the shaft more forward at impact (DJ, Viktor Hovland, Brooks, etc)
But....if you dont want to do that/can't you could always lessen how much you do this yep! Will lose some distance but not the end of the world
