Eric, I'm a 26 handicap who started golfing 2 years ago. I watched this video earlier today and immediately took it to the range this evening after work. Best I've felt after a range session in a long time. Absolute stripe show. A few hooks but mostly draws with no slices whatsoever. This did more for me than any instructional video on TH-cam has to date. THANK YOU.
@@CogornoGolf Do you have a drill similar for someone who wants to a hit a consistent power fade? I like the fade more as to me it's more forgiving. When I play a draw a miss can be a big hook left.
I gotta say after listening to this it makes so much more sense. I want to go the range but currently nursing an upper back from my bad over the top swing, that I’ve managed into a strong fade.. now I have something new to try because that motion felt more natural after I pulled this damn muscle doing my old natural 😅
13:00 to 13:37 Holy smokes! The clouds part, the light breaks through...THAT's why I'm hitting to the right even though I'm not coming over the top. I have never heard anyone else explain this before. Wonderful point. Worth the whole video. One of those insights that is thunderingly obvious once it is pointed out.
BEST TIP EVER!! I went from hitting inconsistent weak fades to making consistent square face contact and hitting compressed straight lasers. This is a true game changer. Thanks Eric for sharing your knowledge- keep it up, I'm subscribed for life!
This video came along at the exact right time for me. I've been struggling with my game for the past 18 months and I played yesterday and wanted to quit. I came across this yesterday afternoon and watched around 5 times. I went to the range this morning and just concentrated on this alone with an 8 iron. Although i didnt see any draws, my ball flight was holding up against a 2 club left to right cross wind, so I'm positive. By the end of the session i was smoothing 7 irons to a 160 target, so noticed an increase in distance. Like many people i am guilty of watching TH-cam golf tips and trying new things almost weekly, and this has really made my game suffer. Like the man says in the video, concentrate on this for the next 6, 12, 18 24 months. And that is exactly what i plan to do.
I’ve been golfing for a little over a year now. I have watched a ton of videos (including yours) and I have never been able to hit a draw. I always fade the ball and my miss is a big ol’ slice from right to left (left handed). I saw this video, I just went to the range, and I focused on strong grip, club face down in the takeaway with wrist angles, and arm rotation on the way through. Wow, Eric. I didn’t hit one single fade. Majority were draws with a few hooks and pushes. I’m shocked. Thank you so much, I really appreciate your help. I currently shoot in the 90’s, but I have a good feeling I’m about to break 90 real soon now.
Hands down my favorite YT instructor. I feel like every drill he gives is helping my swing. Shooting in low 80’s hoping to break into the 70’s this year.
Eric, the timing of this video was perfect for me. I have been struggling with my scoring and consistancy this year. I went from an 11 to 13.8. I have increased practicing but struggled with what to focus on. Also been pulling the ball and fading it when I was a drawer of the ball. Now with this video, in one short practice session then off to the course, my draw was back and I was so much more consistant. I shot my lowest round in over a month all from this simple method. But now I know what to work on, during my practice sessions. Thanks so much.
I’m an 8-10 handicap and I agree with everything in the video. It is great advice. I’m blessed to be able to shape my shots exceptionally well and it is my short game and sometimes putting that gets me! I don’t love tip 2 about the flattening the wrists to close the club face to the line. I have always found thinking about wrists is tough in the golf swing. I had a pro friend of mine give me a great tip to accomplish the same thing but easier to execute. “Knuckles down” He called it. Take the club away with the handle of the club facing the target as it comes back (that insures you don’t take it to the inside and open the club face) and as you get back past the right foot get the feeling of turning knuckles (left knuckle for right handed golfer) downward just a bit. The handle pointing at the target and the slight knuckles down keeps everything on line as long as the first two tips Eric mentions are strictly adhered to, proper grip and rotating the arms. I’ve found I automatically rotate my arms if I just finish like Eric does or the top of my right hand over my left and wrapped around my shoulders so I know I finish my swing with belt buckle left of target. “Hold it like a pro” On the finish!
This is a superb video! Probably all we all need to work on as a long term project. The point at the end about the effect of body rotation really resonates with me - timing is still so important. You're a legend Eric!
I’m scratch now, but I went through the same “progression” as everyone else. I naturally started off slicing. Horrible grip. Horrible path. Lots of things wrong. I gradually got my scores down into the eighties, by just simply getting better with “strike”, and with my chipping n putting. However, this was pretty much a dead end road, until I learned how to draw the ball. I changed my grip, and path, and at first, I actually fought a hook. I could occasionally shoot in the seventies on a good day, if I sorta tamed the hook a little. I started to then understand more about path, and face. I learned to work the ball either direction, and with a solid short game, started shooting seventies pretty often. It was when I could hit a 10 yard draw, OR a 10 yard fade, and “strike” was almost a non-issue, when my game changed forever. He’s so correct about “grip” being a VERY key factor. Listen to this man. He will get you there. I shot even par 72 yesterday, with a very average approach shot day. The key to scratch is STRIKE. I only hit 3-4 slightly thin irons shots, and only 1 low runner with driver. However, all of them was within 80% of my intended distance(very playable). Everything else was pretty solid. To me…. Strike is king! You absolutely can’t chunk, or skull your way around the golf course.
This is where I'm at, stuck in the mid-high 70s - low 80s mostly because of short game and occasional high 80s because of inconsistency off the tee with a hook. Normal flight is a slight 3 yard draw but when I lose control of it it's gone left. I can't even think about hitting a ball left to right anymore. What changes did you make to control your draw so you wouldn't hook and could actually hit a fade when necessary? Thanks.
@@Fab5foLyfe I will tell you how I work the ball left to right now…. I set up a little closer to the ball. This steepens my swing some, and let’s me swing slightly out to in. I’ll turn my hips, and shoulders a little harder from the top. This kicks the club out a little, so I don’t get stuck. But, the key for me is right side bend through impact. This stabilizes the face. The face has to be slightly open to the path to produce a left to right shape. Face controls start direction, and path controls side spin.
I have gotten caught up in the hold-off, body turn thing and I went from being able to draw the ball to missing right. This video speaks volumes to me!! Thanks for clearing this up. I now have a game plan as to going back to releasing the arms!!
I just started playing summer before last. I have a friend who is pretty good at golf and last weekend he got me doing the keeping the wrist hinged and rotating body until I hit the ball. When I went to the other evening to hit. I was jacked up. Thanks guys for bringing this up. I’m going to get that out of my head and go with your teaching. Thanks.
Eric, I've been watching your videos (from afar) for a year or so. This one finally hit home. Had to watch this video at least 3-4 times, before I finally got it. I'm almost 69, been a mid to low 20 handicapper for all too long, have physical issues (2 knee replacements, arthritis, neuropathy in my feet)...yeah I'm a bit of a hot mess. Ha. Long story short...I took your 3 principles out to the driving range today and worked on them through my basket of 100 golf balls. Don't think I've ever hit the golf ball as well in my entire life. Didn't hit a slice or even a remote fade the entire bucket. All were draws and some big hooks 20 yards left...but you said that was a good "miss" and so I was cool with it. This tended to disappear as I hit my way through the bucket...must have been self adjusting in a good way. In general, my shots had good power behind them and unlike anything I've ever hit recently. My normal 7 iron is a 140 yd shot...today more like 165 which is great for my age bracket and handicap range. I even tried to use these same principals (strong grip, closing the club face on the way back, and releasing the club face coming through the ball) with my driver with impressive results. Mostly straight to drawing drives in the 230-250 yd range. On the white tees, this will really work well for me. Thanks for you great presentations, clear descriptions of what you are trying to accomplish, and practice drills. You are a great teacher and great fun to watch and listen too. BTW...wish I had such a balanced and beautiful swing as yours. I'll just have to be happy with the difference you've already made in mine.
Hi Eric - wanted to say i have been watching your videos for many years and thank you so much for providing high quality content:) much appreciated. and yes i have subscribed to your website in the past.
I just appreciate the education. Action/reaction, how the body works in the golf swing. Been golfing 30 years and love learning why and how stuff happens when watching your vids. Thanks!
Thank you, Eric! I've been regressing for awhile. I am a single digit - but only because I have a good short game. It's time to turn this around and gain some distance and consistency! I play twice a week with not a lot of range time. This will get back on track.
Hey Eric Just stumbled on your channel and the iron swing , closed to path I’ve been playing regularly for 30 years Constantly searching for a repeatable trustworthy swing Endless TH-cam ing Hundreds of range buckets One on one lessons And that three step process never came up Not once I think even without trying it yet It will be the holy grail I’ve been searching for I can’t wait to get to the course tomorrow Thank you
Eric, the way you articulate everything about the golf swing is so smooth. So easy to grasp. Thanks for all of your tips. This one I needed big time! 👍
Excellent lesson on a method to consistently draw the ball with a strong grip, with wrist movement closing the clubface during the backswing, in coordination with proper arm rotation after the clubface release during the downswing.
12:16 😂too true. Great video, I was working on these exact things with my swing coach last lesson and have been exaggerating these things every morning when I go to the range with great results.
Eric, I am an 10 handicap, and this video is literally a game changer. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to play a lot with it due to all the rain, but I at the range, I am hitting the ball solidly and compressing the ball more than I have. I have to finish high to avoid hooking it, but I am amazed at what the counterclockwise left wrist during the back swing is doing to my consistency. My miss is a push right, but so far, that is not an issue with this change. Did I read that you are in FL this winter (2024)? Id love to get an in person tune up. Thanks much! BIll
Great to hear it, Bill! My in-person lesson schedule is completely booked in Pompano Beach, FL at this time, but please email service@cogornogolf.com with the subject "lessons" and we'll add you to the email list/notify you of any new openings👍 Thank you!
Excellent!! This is what I do already and this video confirms I’m doing the right thing. It took me 4 months to get where every swing can be a draw. Thank you Eric you are an amazing resource I watch all your stuff - very high quality. Perhaps I’ll get an in person swing lesson one day at your location. Cheers!
I find the best place to work on this, is on the trackman at an indoor golf centre. It's easy to hit it left curving left, and right curving right. But right curving left is harder, and I find requires an enhanced sense of timing and softer arms. Helps I think to aim the clubface straight and swing on a line slightly right of the target. This is the lesson we should all aspire to!
Eric, thanks again for this super straightforward, actionable advice. I've commented before and I'm sure you read and recall every post :), but I'm a recovering baseball player who has only been committed to golf for a couple of years now. Struggling to train my body to swing in to out instead of the disastrous over the top I started with. This kind of drill and explanation is so helpful for someone like me, and I've been working on it for several weeks. I'm having success with my short to mid-irons, but still struggling with hybrids and definitely driver. I'm wondering if you could show us a similar or even the same drill but using a driver instead. The difference in setup and attack angle screw me up big time. I know it's the same concept, but I think the driver swing is more difficult to deal with for an amateur like me. If not, no worries. I just feel like a driver-focused video would be helpful to your fans out there. Thanks much! BTW - I'll be signing up for your online site soon.
Thanks Matthew! For sure----it is the same concept like you mention but due to the angle of attack/setup some pieces do have to change. 1. I will link some resources below that may help 2. Of course we would need to see your swing to say FOR SURE what exactly YOU need to do to help with the driver. Once we can diagnose the root issues we can get to fixing it! Hi Eric. Excellent video as always! This great drill has turn my slice into a draw by implementing this over the last 3 months (along with your over shallowing alignment stick stations). I’ve now started to overdraw/high hook. You mention fine tuning with body rotation but I’m worried about rotating too much or using drills that have me swinging more left given I’ve worked hard to get rid of the slice and over the top move recently.
Hey Nick! Yeah thats NORMAL and GOOD! 1. You can REDUCE the amount you are doing the things to make it draw (less path in to out, less closing face) OR 2. Add something else to even it out (body rotation like you mention, more shaft lean at impact, etc) I would need to see your swing to say for sure which FOR YOU is best. IF you dont sort it send vids to www.cogornogolf.com/freetrial and I can help!
Excellent content, Eric. I have a strong grip and try to keep my wrist flat/slight bow but that feels like it closes the face too much. If I full release I hook it. So I try to hold off the face and then come the inconsistent shots, draw, hook, push.
Thank you, Mark! I'd need to see your swing to give you the best advice here! Send us your swings at www.cogornogolf.com 👊 Would love to work together!
Tigers go to shot under pressure is 100% a fade. I think the key isn’t to always hit the picture perfect draw, but to have a shape you can hit consistently and under pressure.
right......but thats tiger----a pro........they learn to hit draw first tho Usually a player will go 1. start golfing......stink......hit slice 2. Continue playing.....learn to hit draw.....get better (break 90, break 80) Keep in mind this is a video about breaking 80.....not shooting under :) 3. Once they own the draw they get into 70's par.....then learn to neutralize draw/hit slight fade to sheet under par
Greetings from South Africa, from a long time subscriber. A really useful video Eric, thanks for this. I couldn't understand why the more I worked on body rotation, the further right I hit it. I'm such a dumb-ass, it turns out 🙈 This all makes perfect sense now. You have a real gift for simplifying and explaining what can be a very complex sport. Keep them coming, this is such a great channel.
This video hits different, your straight to the point (no pun intended) with clear instructions. Still waiting for my Straight Stix… at this rate I might get so good hitting baby draws I won’t need it!
Another piece not mentioned in this video is angle of attack. A flatter plane in your delivery will also produce a draw bias due to the loft of the club being turned. I recommend feeling like you are hitting a baseball with your driver, a horizontal feeling swing, around your body, rather than a vertical swing thought.
Absolutely right about the body. Some of my hits are very ungraceful but that ball was going straight down the middle. My handicap I can tell is going down. I need to work on my irons. This will help! Thank you!
Glad you mentioned the trainer at the end. I was a personal trainer and athletic performance coach for over 20 years. Athletes always got it and PT clients needed a lot of persuading…Athletes didn’t care if I NEVER changed anything-they knew it was what they needed and we only changed protocol when it was necessary to do so. PT clients we had to “keep them interested” and constantly change things. Annoying. Anyways, i think golfers have the same short attention span as the soccer moms and change drills and techniques long before the drill had a chance to imprint anything meaningful. tiger, Rory, Rham…all STILL do the same drills they did 5, even 10 years ago. YOU don’t need variety. It’s a myth.
Great video Eric. I have never heard anyone say that good body rotation and tilt actually open the face. I can't wait to get out of this boot and get back to work on these ideas and use my Straight Stick.
I have arthritis in my hands and difficulty holding on to the club with a strong swing. This video looks amazing and going to try it today to see if it helps. Thank you so much
Hey Eric I've struggled with everything you mentioned in this video. I've been taking lessons lately but my golf coach told me he didn't want me to develop flipping my wrist as that can cause more problems down the road.
Great video explaining the 3 things to close the face, but please do a video specifically on how to get the in to out swing path. AMG golf has some great videos on that, but most online instructors just say "swing in to out" with no drills or in depth explanation. That is the Achilles heel of 95% of amateur golfers. For the many people that watch your channel, that would be a big help to them. Thanks!
Thank you! Here are a few videos to help with the shallowing/in to out path👊 th-cam.com/video/w9WhdAGwv6c/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/PjUCfzMmM48/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/J91dDYfIEJs/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/VWXiaem09Co/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps!
This was an honest video of cause and effect bc Eric being in the field along with doing videos. Extreme opposite. 10 swing thoughts that don’t even matter, that’s funny!
This was the video I needed. I have a consistent weak fade or strong fade with the lingers irons and I’m going to start trying this at the range next session because I notice I have a tendency to have a open club face
I bought one of the straight sticks. It "shipped" 5/18 and is supposed to be delivered today again; (FedEx told me delivery Sunday before the package took a grand tour of the US)
It's a FedEx mixup. Performance Golf has been superb. Even called my cell two days ago to follow-up. I love your content bro. One of these days I'm going to come see you in PA for a face to face lesson. My buddy lives in Hazelton. I'll work that into a visit some day soon.
I love your videos! I wish you had some with left handed players or lessons so I didn’t have to constantly try to imagine it for me (lefty golfer here).
"Your timing stinks already." 😂 unfortunately true. Last year, I struggled with the overdraw, or a small pull hook at times. Worked hard to correct-weakened the grip slightly, held off the release a bit. Now I struggle with a bit of a right miss...a small push with a bit of a fade bias. One of these days I'll land in the middle...feels like I'm one small tweak away.
Eric, why don't you just start off with a weak/flat wrist, if that's what you like, and keep it there ala Spieth? Why add more moving parts? I don't think Zinger, Duval, Zack Johnson were bowing their strong grips in the middle of their swings. Set it strong, keep it strong.
Hey Tom! Yep that's ONE option. Lots of great ball strikers with weaker grip and more bow Lots of great ball strikers with neutral grips and neutral wrist Lots of great ball strikers with stronger grips and some extension in wrist For me I like to live in a neutral to strong grip and FLATTISH lead wrist But the point is....do most golfers have too much bow? Or too much cup? So they (and me) need to FEEEEEEL......some bow....just to get to FLAT (because our normal is too cupped)
Hi Eric, great video and watched at a really good time for me. I agree with what you say most low handicaps i have played with do have a draw. Does these same 3 principles you’ve spoke about also apply for the driver? And any videos on how to stop coming over the top on the downswing? Thanks
Hey Paul! Thank you! 1. Yes for driver 2. Yes for over the top....best drills linked below: I would do this: th-cam.com/video/qOQebVaJmOg/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUaRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIG92ZXIgdGhlIHRvcCA%3D Or this one for 20-30 reps daily next 3-6 months: th-cam.com/video/APsIJ4M2oSY/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUhRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIGJlc3QgZHJpbGwgZXZlcnl0aW1l
Can you point out videos or tips from your library for the person who does the three moves you just discussed and who has developed a playable but frustrating slight pull draw or baby push with a slight over draw? Great video. Thank you.
Hey John! Unfortunately I cannot---there could be several things causing that I would need to see your swing on video to identify the root issue causing that to suggest videos to fix. Could be 5+ things off top of my head. If you dont get sorted come see me in person or online www.cogornogolf.com
A question for you would be why do most tour players favor a fade over a draw. Now I know they can bend it both ways on command but a lot of them prefer a fade over a draw and it’s typically because it will generate more spin and more control. I know they are elite level golfers so comparing to a mature golfers is like apples to oranges but why don’t more coaches teach students to play that pull cut or small fade. Appreciate your videos man thanks for all u do.
For sure! Most golfers at the Elite level follow a similar process/learning curve They first start playing and hit a slice As they get better they learn to fix slice and hit a draw As they get GREAt they learn to ease down the draw and hit it pretty straight or slight cut. Thats also why this videos was about my getting into 70s and not pro level....as you know most players in 80s and 90s need this first (learn to draw) Once you get to that elite level the baby cut usually produces the best results....the MISSES are much better. The slight adjustments in swing mechanics needed to produce that are in line with more consistent strikes, better face control, smaller misses etc. Perhaps a full video to explain HOW and WHY in the future
Thank you Eric, started to follow your videos recently and learned a lot. One thing I'm afraid to try is to rotate the arms as it seems timing sensitive to me, any recommendations on drill to get over it?
Hey Michael! I would just give up that fear :) But if you want to square the face other ways I go through that in detail in video below. Just have stronger grip or more flexed lead wrist....those options require less arm rotation. th-cam.com/video/fCW9W_lGQtM/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUfRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vICMxIHNraWxsIGNsdWIgZmFjZQ%3D%3D
Hi Eric, thanks for the great video! I have a question I was hoping you could help me with. I can do this drill but find my contact is still inconsistent, especially when I hit off the turf. I can get the ball to start right and curve back but still hitting it fat and thin. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Hey Paul! Yep agreed you will need to fix that......but to fix that.....you first have to identify WHY its happening....the root issues causing it. That could be 100 different things...I would need to see your swing on video to identify why its happen to show you how to fix. Send swings to www.cogornogolf.com we can fix that up for you
Very good lesson. The biggest mistake I see beginners make is conceptual, thinking the goal is hitting dead straight shots and to do that they to aim at the center of the ball + relative to ball-target line with a square face. That is very difficult because the club head swings on an arc and because of that the result of a swing where the club face stays square to the swing arc is impact of a slightly open club face striking the ball slightly inside of center. I find that once I explain that aiming inside of center >+ not dead center is the goal that starts to eliminate their tendency to slice because the reflexive brain and hand eye coordination is pretty good at figuring out how to hit a target and aiming inside of center keeps the face square to the swing arc. What causes the ball to draw or fade is a tilting of the ball’s spin axis by hitting inside or outside of center on the ball. Because of the dimples on the ball tilt acts on airflow, lift and drag similar to an airplane wing in a banked turn occurs. For that reason it you keep impact on the inside of the ball you will not slice the ball you will hit a draw. So why do better golfers who understand the need to swing inside-out and aim slightly inside still hit slices and miss to the right? They either let the club force pull them off balance on their toes at impact, and or pull the hands out towards the ball, both of which will cause the club to strike outside of center relative to target on a outside-in path. When I worked as a course starter I’d see even the better golfers fall off balance without realizing it was happening, but as an external observer it was easy to see. It made me realize I was slicing for the same reason - letting the club force pull me off balance and club outside of target line especially on other than flat lies, why full to finish practice swings to check balance in the finish will result in better shots.
Hey Eric, been using the hangar training and that’s helped with the wrist positions, I struggle with the rotating the arms, I feel like I’m flipping. Do you have a video on that?
Eric when I golf lately I’ve been hitting everything basically off where the shaft meets the club head pretty sure I’m way too laid off with my swing for that to happen any advice I can take to the range tomorrow and try and get my swing honed back in to be able to shoot back in the 80s
Hey! For sure but I don't feel comfortable giving advice without seeing your swing I would just be guessing too much....send swings to www.cogornogolf.com we will get that fixed
2 questions…1) can i practice this drill with half shots or does it need to be full shots for best effect? and 2) how long would you estimate it took you to sort this out once you started and how much practice time did you need? Im pull hooking irons now so need to start it right and im not but feel this drill may help.
Hey! 1. Yes you can start with shorter swings 2. Will be different for everyone....could do it on first ball or could take awhile. I would continue to do it for like 12 months when in doubt.....no rush.....you want things that WORK and you can KEEP WORKING for a long time
Hi Eric. I have noticed in Viktor Hovland and even more so in John Rahm that their wrists are bin their downswings. Yet with both of these players their "go-to" shot, especially with driver, is a power fade. How are they accomplishing this with such bowed wrist positions?
Hey Stephen! 1. They get their path LEFT enough of the club face at impact to create the right curve 2. They do this with A LOT of ROTATION and SIDE BEND of their body 3. Both ROTATION and SIDE BEND make the path more left 4. They also have a quite "passive" release pattern to not get the face closed to path
Another brilliant video. However, I've noticed that John Rahm draws every club in his bag apart from the driver, is this because it's harder to draw the driver, or is it easier to control a fade with the driver?
IMO, trying to rotate your arms, and close the club face, will get you into massive trouble. I tried that a few years back and I became the worst pull hooker of the golf ball on the planet. The ball WILL GO where the club it is pointing.. No getting away from that fact. If you close the club enough you will be hitting 4 or 5 balls out of bounds every round, like I did. One other thing: It will encourage more arm swing, and less body rotation. The best advice for someone who plays badly, is to rotate their body all the way through the ball... Glad it worked for you, though...
Started doing this last year and ended up shooting pull hook 30 yard from the green. How can i adjust the release to make sure i dont over do it and lose my ball with a massive pull? Been going back to basic and now scared of drawing the ball since i can't control the draw so i started slicing my long irons once again! Need help on how to control the draw!
Hey Samuel! Send us your swings at www.cogornogolf.com so we can do a full analysis and build you a personal practice plan. Would love to help and work together!

Like many people i am guilty of watching TH-cam golf tips and trying new things almost weekly, and this has really made my game suffer. Like the man says in the video, concentrate on this for the next 6, 12, 18 24 months. And that is exactly what i plan to do.
Love to hear that----right time right place :) Hope this continues to serve you well!
@@CogornoGolfwould love to see a version of this specific to driver
This applies to all clubs my friend!👊
Fantastic to hear! Glad this one is helping!
Hands down my favorite YT instructor. I feel like every drill he gives is helping my swing. Shooting in low 80’s hoping to break into the 70’s this year.
Thanks for the support! Appreciate you being here with us👊
Eric, the timing of this video was perfect for me.
Hell yeah love to hear that! My pleasure!
Appreciate the feedback and support!
This is a superb video! Probably all we all need to work on as a long term project. The point at the end about the effect of body rotation really resonates with me - timing is still so important. You're a legend Eric!
Thanks Mike! Appreciate your support!!
Love it
This is where I'm at, stuck in the mid-high 70s - low 80s mostly because of short game and occasional high 80s because of inconsistency off the tee with a hook.
@@jamiesloan7259 Gotcha thanks for the reply, that all makes sense I'll mess with it at the range
The face sends it and the path bends it.
I have gotten caught up in the hold-off, body turn thing and I went from being able to draw the ball to missing right. This video speaks volumes to me!! Thanks for clearing this up. I now have a game plan as to going back to releasing the arms!!
Love it Perry--you got it :)
Love to hear that Doug---heading in the right direction!!
Hi Eric - wanted to say i have been watching your videos for many years and thank you so much for providing high quality content:) much appreciated. and yes i have subscribed to your website in the past.
Thank you! My pleasure !
I just appreciate the education. Action/reaction, how the body works in the golf swing. Been golfing 30 years and love learning why and how stuff happens when watching your vids. Thanks!
Our pleasure my friend! Thank you for watching!
Thank you, Eric! I've been regressing for awhile. I am a single digit - but only because I have a good short game. It's time to turn this around and gain some distance and consistency! I play twice a week with not a lot of range time. This will get back on track.
Hope it serves you well, Joe!
Hey Eric
Just stumbled on your channel and the iron swing , closed to path
I’ve been playing regularly for 30 years
Constantly searching for a repeatable trustworthy swing
Endless TH-cam ing
Hundreds of range buckets
One on one lessons
And that three step process never came up
Not once
I think even without trying it yet
It will be the holy grail I’ve been searching for
I can’t wait to get to the course tomorrow
Thank you
Better late than never right Marc :) Hope this serves you well!
So how did this drill work out for you? Did your ball striking improve?
Eric, the way you articulate everything about the golf swing is so smooth. So easy to grasp.
Thanks for all of your tips. This one I needed big time! 👍
Appreciate that :)
Great video. Eric is the best. No one explains the drills and shows you how to do it in plain English like Eric does.
Thanks Frank!👊
Great tips Eric and confirmed by Paddy Harrington- 'most need to focus on hands & arms which is 85% of clubhead speed'.
Thanks Steven!
Excellent lesson on a method to consistently draw the ball with a strong grip, with wrist movement closing the clubface during the backswing, in coordination with proper arm rotation after the clubface release during the downswing.
Thank you John! Hope it helps!
Eric thank you, I started doing this for my last three rounds, has helped me beyond belief.
My pleasure---love to hear that!
12:16 😂too true. Great video, I was working on these exact things with my swing coach last lesson and have been exaggerating these things every morning when I go to the range with great results.
Love it!
My in-person lesson schedule is completely booked in Pompano Beach, FL at this time, but please email service@cogornogolf.com with the subject "lessons" and we'll add you to the email list/notify you of any new openings👍
Thank you!
Excellent!! This is what I do already and this video confirms I’m doing the right thing. It took me 4 months to get where every swing can be a draw. Thank you Eric you are an amazing resource I watch all your stuff - very high quality. Perhaps I’ll get an in person swing lesson one day at your location. Cheers!
Appreciate that Larry!
👊
Thanks for being here with us, Mike! Hope this one helps your game!
@CogornoGolf thanks Eric. It's reverse engineering. Persevering with the intent of this, makes good things happen in the swing for free!
1. I will link some resources below that may help

1. You can REDUCE the amount you are doing the things to make it draw (less path in to out, less closing face)
OR
2. Add something else to even it out (body rotation like you mention, more shaft lean at impact, etc) I would need to see your swing to say for sure which FOR YOU is best.
IF you dont sort it send vids to www.cogornogolf.com/freetrial and I can help!
Thanks so much for this video! I haven’t been able to find a video that explains all the steps this easily. Thank you
Hope it serves you well, Ross!
Very helpful discussion of what you see in your lessons. Thank you!
Appreciate it!
Send us your swings at www.cogornogolf.com 👊
Would love to work together!
I saw people doing this drill and it really works! Highly recommend
:) Hope it continues to serve you well!
Tigers go to shot under pressure is 100% a fade.
I think the key isn’t to always hit the picture perfect draw, but to have a shape you can hit consistently and under pressure.
right......but thats tiger----a pro........they learn to hit draw first tho
Usually a player will go
1. start golfing......stink......hit slice
2. Continue playing.....learn to hit draw.....get better (break 90, break 80)
Keep in mind this is a video about breaking 80.....not shooting under :)
3. Once they own the draw they get into 70's par.....then learn to neutralize draw/hit slight fade to sheet under par
I watched a lot of golf videos on TH-cam. Eric, your stuff is the best. Thank you.
Thank you Jerry! Appreciate that!
Greetings from South Africa, from a long time subscriber.
A really useful video Eric, thanks for this.
I couldn't understand why the more I worked on body rotation, the further right I hit it.
I'm such a dumb-ass, it turns out 🙈
This all makes perfect sense now.
You have a real gift for simplifying and explaining what can be a very complex sport.
Keep them coming, this is such a great channel.
Thanks for your support!👊
This video hits different, your straight to the point (no pun intended) with clear instructions. Still waiting for my Straight Stix… at this rate I might get so good hitting baby draws I won’t need it!
:) Appreciate it!
👊
Appreciate you watching!
Absolutely right about the body. Some of my hits are very ungraceful but that ball was going straight down the middle. My handicap I can tell is going down. I need to work on my irons. This will help! Thank you!

Love to hear this, Stan!
Brilliant. My path was +1 to +2 but now I have my face closed to the path by a few degrees I have managed to hit some really consistent pull hooks.
Hope this one serves you well, Steve! Appreciate you watching!
100%----great points Brian!
Great video Eric. I have never heard anyone say that good body rotation and tilt actually open the face. I can't wait to get out of this boot and get back to work on these ideas and use my Straight Stick.
100%! Appreciate it Bruce!

Hey Eric I've struggled with everything you mentioned in this video. I've been taking lessons lately but my golf coach told me he didn't want me to develop flipping my wrist as that can cause more problems down the road.
Hope you get it sorted Marvin.....if you watch our videos you know how I would handle this :)
Awesome video, I'm shooting low 80s so definitely going to try this. Thanks
Thanks Harry! Hope it serves you well!
Arm rotation on the way through really was an eye opener for me. Thanks for this😊
Our pleasure, Sheila! Hope it serves you well!
Thanks!

Another great tip from Eric, thank you!
Thanks Keith!
I have faith in ya :)
Lots of great ball strikers with weaker grip and more bow
Lots of great ball strikers with neutral grips and neutral wrist
Lots of great ball strikers with stronger grips and some extension in wrist
For me I like to live in a neutral to strong grip and FLATTISH lead wrist
But the point is....do most golfers have too much bow? Or too much cup?
So they (and me) need to FEEEEEEL......some bow....just to get to FLAT (because our normal is too cupped)
This is Thee lesson of all time!
:) Such important big picture concepts here!
Hi Eric, great video and watched at a really good time for me. I agree with what you say most low handicaps i have played with do have a draw. Does these same 3 principles you’ve spoke about also apply for the driver? And any videos on how to stop coming over the top on the downswing? Thanks

Thank you!
1. Yes for driver
2. Yes for over the top....best drills linked below:

Hey John! Unfortunately I cannot---there could be several things causing that I would need to see your swing on video to identify the root issue causing that to suggest videos to fix. Could be 5+ things off top of my head. If you dont get sorted come see me in person or online www.cogornogolf.com
@@CogornoGolf Thank you
Well done Eric as always
Appreciate your support, Eric!
For sure!
Most golfers at the Elite level follow a similar process/learning curve
They first start playing and hit a slice
As they get better they learn to fix slice and hit a draw
As they get GREAt they learn to ease down the draw and hit it pretty straight or slight cut.
Thats also why this videos was about my getting into 70s and not pro level....as you know most players in 80s and 90s need this first (learn to draw)
Once you get to that elite level the baby cut usually produces the best results....the MISSES are much better. The slight adjustments in swing mechanics needed to produce that are in line with more consistent strikes, better face control, smaller misses etc.
Perhaps a full video to explain HOW and WHY in the future
This videos on point 👌 I used to play some great golf with an upper body swing 😂
👊
Thanks for watching!
Great tips Eric and thanks for sharing.
My pleasure Al----appreciate the support!
I will try this tips today and keep you posted.
Thank you Eric, started to follow your videos recently and learned a lot. One thing I'm afraid to try is to rotate the arms as it seems timing sensitive to me, any recommendations on drill to get over it?
Hey Michael! I would just give up that fear :)
But if you want to square the face other ways I go through that in detail in video below. Just have stronger grip or more flexed lead wrist....those options require less arm rotation.

Thank you for the support!
Most of PGA top players hit shots with fade balls.
For sure.....but not on their way there. Most all of them LEARNED to draw first!
Love it Teddy
Hey Eric, been using the hangar training and that’s helped with the wrist positions, I struggle with the rotating the arms, I feel like I’m flipping. Do you have a video on that?
Hey Ryan!
This video will help a lot with the flipping/early release:
th-cam.com/video/odSKa4DY4SA/w-d-xo.html
Also.....just because you FEEEEL like its flipping.....doesnt make it WRONG. Check on video to confirm.
Well done, Eric.
Thank you!
Just bought the straight stick gonna put it together with this video and see if we can’t fix my iron game
Love it Jamey!
2 questions…1) can i practice this drill with half shots or does it need to be full shots for best effect? and 2) how long would you estimate it took you to sort this out once you started and how much practice time did you need? Im pull hooking irons now so need to start it right and im not but feel this drill may help.
Hey!
1. Yes you can start with shorter swings
2. Will be different for everyone....could do it on first ball or could take awhile. I would continue to do it for like 12 months when in doubt.....no rush.....you want things that WORK and you can KEEP WORKING for a long time
@@CogornoGolf appreciate you; wish i was 10 years old again and had all day to practice!! ⛳️
Hi Eric. I have noticed in Viktor Hovland and even more so in John Rahm that their wrists are bin their downswings. Yet with both of these players their "go-to" shot, especially with driver, is a power fade. How are they accomplishing this with such bowed wrist positions?
Hey Stephen!
1. They get their path LEFT enough of the club face at impact to create the right curve
2. They do this with A LOT of ROTATION and SIDE BEND of their body
3. Both ROTATION and SIDE BEND make the path more left
4. They also have a quite "passive" release pattern to not get the face closed to path
Good info. Appreciate the response.
Thank you
Our pleasure, Christopher!
dam he's good eh. love his communication style, super clear for me.
Thank you!
Another brilliant video.
However, I've noticed that John Rahm draws every club in his bag apart from the driver, is this because it's harder to draw the driver, or is it easier to control a fade with the driver?
Definitely
Excellent video. I’m using this technique with all my clubs and made me consistently hit a draw.
Love it Danny!
I also use the the hanger when I’m practicing. This is a great investment!
Outstanding video!
thanks Jack!
That's about as good as you can hit a 7 iron...Thanks Eric! Great stuff as always
:) Thanks Jack!
Does this also extend to the driver since the action is to hit up on the ball with the shoulder tilted lower?
All clubs for this one!
"Most players I see have ten swing thoughts and none are relevent to their issue" ....This is def me, LOL. Trying this later today!
:) Hope this one helps!
Appreciate the feedback Charlie!
Agreed Charlie. Encouraging this is a really bad idea. The worst shot on a golf course is a rope hook.
13:01. 🤯, why did I not know this.
:)
Hey Samuel!

Thanks Anthony! Perhaps---havent tried one yet....precision impact works so well for me with my coaching
Needed this one.
