You should check out Lewis' The Four Loves, great book! Also, his Till We Have Faces is great. The Four Loves is probably more dense in terms of style, but has some absolute gems talking about the various loves we can have (friendship, romance, familial, charity/agape). Till We Have Faces is fiction, and is incredibly deep, but is I would say still accesible simply because its not written at a super high level, its just got layers upon layers of meaning :). You should definitely read more Lewis, he's great! The Weight of Glory (a short sermon of his) has absolutely changed my life, truly wonderful stuff!! Also I believe the phrase you're looking for is "its an acquired taste", but maybe not 🙃
For Christmas I got a collection of CS Lewis’ classics and The Four Loves is included in that! I definitely need to read that one next!! I also have The Weight of Glory which I should also read! Thanks for commenting!! YES! “acquired taste” is the phrase!!!! THANK YOU!! 🙌💯
I’m rereading Mere Christianity right now. It’s timeless. Next up on your list should be Orthodoxy by GK Chesterton (the edition with Trevin Wax’s notes) and The Life of God in the Soul of Man by Henry Scougal. Old books are the way to go. And 9/10 times they are way more readable than you would think.
I love that! I’ll write down Orthodoxy and The Life of God in the Soul of Man! I’ve heard of GK Chesterton! Definitely need to read those. Thanks for the recommendations! 💯
I second Till We Have Faces and Chesterton's Orthodoxy. You should also check out Lewis's The Screwtape Letters. It will make you much more aware of how we are tempted.
Grab a copy of Mere Christianity (affiliate link)! amzn.to/4bEKstX
