Funny how people can have same experiences or how life is like a bell curve. However you do have a few unique items particular to your own history. David Goggins says, "The only comparison you should make, is with the person you were yesterday." I love that mindset and it helps me keep my eyes on my own goals. Any other comparison can be very toxic and not productive. Even if it drives you to excel, it will never be enough. If you put your head down and focus on your own goals, chances are, when you do finally look up and look back, you'll be amazed at how far you've come. You don't win the race by being preoccupied with the person next to you.

    Thank you for sharing this. I left my coding job three years ago to pursue my dream of starting an online fitness coaching business. While it’s steadily growing, I’m not yet earning what I used to in my previous role. This has meant cutting back on expenses-living in a rental, no car-while many of my friends seem to be thriving on a completely different level. I genuinely love what I’m doing, but sometimes I feel like I’m falling behind compared to them. Those comparisons can get in my head and momentarily throw me off track.

    Hi my Asian brother, I'm Chinese now living in CA. 100% same point of view like you, I think it's because we grew up in poor family, my mom's youth years was meatless, they can only afford rice and soy sauce to get through days. So my mom is extremely frugal and me too.
    Your friend was a good dancer, that's not the type of person to stay single and save money, dancer will have a fancy lifestyle no matter what. it's a miracle he can transition to software like that, it shows you how the tech world is going to have problems and mass layoffs now, people who shouldn't be in got in, in the end the personal skill speaks not the coding probably.
    When I was in my 20s, the anxiety of fit in the white people and look cool always bothered me, but after I hit 30s, failed some relationships and walking on the NYC streets on my business trip, so insignificant, I found peace. Every life, every mouse on the street, every bacteria, they are just surviving, why would human create all those social norms and discriminations to upset other lives. Investing brings your joy is the same as flashing brings others joy, there are people rock climbing and fall to death, but they were enjoying their entire life other than the last few minutes. Ya we can call them "stupid", but why bother to judge others, whatever makes them happy let them do it, as long as they don't drag you into it.
    Actually, those spenders are the ones kept the society running, right now in China everyone is fearmongered into society collapse, so most people are preserving their wealth and cut off spending, frugal after covid. It caused the econ crushed and all the shops are closed. No business, no jobs, people even have less money, nobody's gonna buy things, just save save survive, it a death spiral. So thank people who went in debt to keep the banks, the clothing store, the car dealers, the apple store booming, without them we won't have anything in the shopping mall and streets.
    The moment when everyone starts van life and minimalist, the society is getting close to collapse.

      Hahahaha. Thank you for sharing. Indeed, i don't talk about economics on this channel but I understand a lot of it. Stagflation and deflation is what we don't want. It's sad to see some people have to screw their lives for others to win and that boils down to choices. To get the tesla or to invest it in Tesla stock.
      My parents had the same life. Rice and soy sauce or hoisin sauce. Funny how similar many asian brothers and sisters' parents upbringing were.

    • @MarcoAshford
      @MarcoAshford 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@donaldkhlee Cheers with the soy sauce rice bro lol. Just think about it, the current minimal life we are having in LA, TX. Weather is nice, restaurant and buffet are everywhere, unlimited food next to your house, investments are growing and paying dividend, iPhone is Pro Max, Laptop is MacBookPro or some flagship, or even gaming desktop, have access to the entire database of human knowledge, have access to endless beautiful women (You know what I mean [-_-]), have access to all possible fiction books, have access to all possible fiction videos. You don't even need to lift iron in the fields to feed yourself, so people invented this "gym" to tired the muscle and release some physical energy to prevent their a$$ in the couch from going insane.
      !!The bare minimum is already 100x better than any King in the entire human history. Why would I care to flash some impulsive purchase to please other people, I'm not gonna out flash others. Why would anyone care about someone else flash things, I mean they can just watch Mr beast if craving for some flash content. When you look above the cloud and see the world in bird's eye, nothing is going to bother you any more.

    Peacocking attracts the wrong kind of partner. I earned almost twice as much as my husband when we started dating. We were both financially independent but I rented and he owned his home. My car was financed and his was paid off. I had savings and investments, he didn't. Together we make a great team! Education and experiences are the things I value most because those are the things you never lose. Your investments can depreciate depending on the economy. Sometimes being overly calculated doesn’t work out. This level of frugality and scarcity mindset is not attractive or healthy.
      Making copious amounts of money is hard. But it’s not impossible. You can invest a reasonable amount into index funds, work a decent paying job, find a partner to enjoy life with, set up a game plan to help grow your future together and suddenly you find yourself living a life of abundance.
      Finding a partner will take away from your mission? How old are you? If you’re above 30, finding a partner should be a part of the mission to get to your destination sooner.
