- Today the PlayStation 5 has now released and gamers everywhere are trying to get their hands on Sony's latest system after heavy traffic has made the online ordering a pain to deal with. I was able to get a hold of one and decided to take a look at what comes in the box, the stand and those side plates.

I can safely say. This is the first time I've seen a "generation" change and been so happy I own a switch.
Everytime I see that size, I just think "nah, I'll wait till the slim model"

I'm still playing my PS2 strong, but I do think I will get a PS5.

I'm hoping to pick up a disk based PS5 at the end of December/beginning of January. To those who already have one, I hope that you enjoy it. I'll be keen to hear how it runs in comparison to the PS4/PS4 pro and whether you picked up a disk based version or an all digital version of the console.
The PS4 and PS4 Pro are junk. Loud and the power supply coilwhining of the Pro is a bad joke. If the PS5 is worse they get it returned.

In Australia, there is no slip cover, the box has the decorations actually on it.
Plus, i couldn't be bothered to get a screwdriver out so i just used the power cable, worked like a charm.

Got mine delivered a few hours ago. So far it’s working great! Played some Miles Morales earlier, and loading a bunch of demanding PS4 games to revisit now.
FedEx man threw my ps5 a lil too hard at the door it gave me anxiety lol especially when I saw it’s just egg cartons protecting it

@Charles Szasz yeah they do well but from time to find you find one cracked egg. Its better than nothing. The plastic side panels protect the console as well.
That's why I don't order shit online. You can't trust delivery people and package handlers. Unfortunately you can't do anything about the handlers that load the store but if you order online, the most amount of hands will end up on your console before your own.
This packaging is pretty cheap compared to the xbox series-x, and even compared to the wii, i still have the original packaging for wii, that thing could probably be dropped out of a semi, and the wii would probably still work!

Xbox has set the standard for boxes at least. They're like a little treasure chest.
@@54356776 You can tell Microsoft budgeted the whole Xbox experience well. Sony put all their money into the Liquid Metal and the way it looks and forgot they still had to do packaging.

@@greenkidd529 nah they should have made them curbside only like the other box stores. it was pretty easy to get one at best buy if you checked when it dropped because it is pick up only so bots arent useful. Walmart Amazon and sony are shipping them so it makes botting easier.

For me I got a glass monitor stand on amazon to place it on the floor vertically (better air flow anyways) and it looks pretty good! Also, to anyone waiting to get theirs still, I highly recommend you grab a longer 2.1HDMI cord and of course, a longer USB C cable if you don't already have one.
Mine comes in on Monday, can't wait!

@@davidtmedia3866 Controller specs doesn't define a generation. A Nintendo Switch Pro Controller is part of the 8th gen.
@@davidtmedia3866 the haptic feedback on the dualsense is more advanced than the switch and don’t for get the adaptive triggers. Also, why do controllers dictate whether something is next-gen or not?
Man instinctively I would insert the disc with the data side facing left when it's standing but horizontally that direction would be upside down. I'm confused, enjoy the console :D

@Nicholas Bumgardner you would think retailers would want to build a customer base. I work at best buy and we don't make much money off of big hardware like this. Mostly accessories and services like protection plans, which you're not gonna get for a reseller. These consoles are going to sell anyways, whether bots or actual people, but with consumers youll also get protection/accessories.
They don’t care as long as the system is sold to someone.
@@lgkninja Yeah, but it's also giving them bad rep for allowing this to happen. It's in their best interest to prevent this. Bots or not, they're gonna sell systems, so they may as well be sold to actual consumers and not scalpers looking to rip people off.
If you think about it, Microsoft is actually losing money with this happening. Not all people want to buy marked up scalper systems from Ebay, so there are systems that aren't getting to consumers, so Microsoft isn't getting as many subscriptions and purchases.
If people can actually get their systems, Microsoft would be making more from sales on services and game purchases from new users. Nobody but the scalpers win in this situation.

The problem with "better" packaging is that it tends to be fairly environmentally unfriendly compared to, essentially, molded cardboard that is going to do _almost_ as good a job with a lot lower impact on disposal.

The console isn't designed to be thrown straight in the trash unlike the packaging. It's a "use for years" item not a "single use" item so your comparison is irrelevant.

@@rapmastac1362 Nintendo is notorious for not having regular sales or a price lowering long after release. My ps4 finally ran out of juice after having it for a long time, so it was time for an upgrade.

I was very picky with my choice of the Digital only version. I camped out for the second wave of pre-orders and there were no Digital Edition systems available, I figured I wouldn't get one until next year some time. Launch day we saw a few places have a final wave of pre-orders so I set up all my devices, ready to order as soon as it dropped, and I reloaded the BestBuy page a few min early by chance and saw that the "Out of Stock" button had changed to "Place Order". My heart started beating faster, my palms had become clammy. I had pr-entered all my cc & shipping info so it was confirmed in under 5 seconds. I checked on the other devices and it was already back to "Out of Stock". I feel very lucky to have gotten the system I am so excited for!

It seemed more wobbly with the stand than without it. I've always been a PS guy, but I seriously don't like this look.
I just think the white fins are a bit of an over-design. The PS5 looks better without them.

I kind of agree, it's very striking, but I have never had a centerpiece console. I like it under my entertainment stand hidden away. It is very cool but my console decision this generation won't be based on looks. I am going to pick up a PS4 Pro very soon and get into some PS gaming since most new Xbox games are cross generation. Will be interesting to see if the R and D put inside these consoles decided a winner for me?

You keep forgetting the world is currently dealing with a pandemic? Especially the land of the yanks? Sony even made an official statement about it, saying 'don't wait in lines, stay at home.' They don't want to endanger their customers, which is a good thing.

I'm super happy that my PS5 is also here as it got delivered around 5:30pm CST. I've taken it out of the box and oogled it a bit but I've not actually hooked it up yet as I was lazy and didn't make space for it and my PS4 to co-exist for the initial transfer. Oh well, I'm enjoying all of these unboxing videos while I eat dinner and mentally plan out how I'm going to do this.

My PS5 is updating right now. It's actually not as big in person as I thought it would be. It's also more light grey than I thought it would be.
I was able to get an invitation from Sony to preorder one. Was able to secure one and got it today. So hyped!
PS5:
- No 1440p
- No Dolby Vision
- No Dolby Atmos
- No VRR
- SDR games play incorrectly in HDR container
- No 4:4:4: Chroma Subsampling
- No 8K
- No external PS5 game storage
- No storage expansion options
- No web browser
- Controller dead in 2-3 hours with haptic feedback intense games
Xbox:
- No games
And it still outsold xbox
The controller actually has better battery life so thats wrong

Astro's Playroom was a great idea to really get a feel for the controller and all it can do! The controller is everything I hoped it would be.
I got mine today as well. Kinda surprised that the plates aren't white, they're almost light grey in color.
Has no one tried putting the stand on vertically without the sides panels on ?
I hope they release the ssd upgrade... I have my ps4 games installed on the external hdd for the moment... But all in all, Im loving my ps5
Something weird was when i popped in Miles Morales the first time it bad a weird sound trying to read the disk, almost as if it was scratching the disk, but it didn't do it when i popped in ghost of tsushima ps4 disc into it. Eventually and after like 20 seconds the noise stopped and it was eventually gone after the game had fully installed. Another thing to note is yes while playing games the console was basically dead silent but installing games was a little bit loud, not ps4 pro jet engine loud, but still loud. I dont know if anyone else had that experience but i did, but overall im glad everything worked out in the end and i didn't have a defective unit.
Watching it without the “wings” I was wondering if we could get some minimalistic plastic covers

I was somehow able to snag one today from Costco's website. My co-worker (who just got the series x from Costco as well) were jumping up and down once I got that order confirmation. Good stuff
