    Of all of the characters, this probably hit Frank the hardest. Dr. Pratt saved his life during his heart attack, and asked Dr. Pratt to stay with him in the cath lab. He said that Dr. Pratt reminded him a lot of some of the African-American soldiers he served with in Vietnam and what they could’ve been. That’s why his death was probably just so difficult for Frank. It’s only fitting that he had the opportunity to say “thank you” one last time before he went into the elevator.

      I stopped watching after the original cast left. It was never as good after that. That said, as an RN, while I loved this series, I also found so many of the things on this show so unrealistic that it was hard to watch at times. This scene is beyond ridiculous. No ER staff would ever have the expertise to continue treatment of a critical patient in a simple ER or even a trauma room. ER and trauma is for stabilization only. Then its up to the appropriate floor. That kind of monitoring and care is done by us up in a critical care unit. Also, if you’re transplanting organs, you wouldn’t be removing monitoring equipment because organ donors need to be meticulously monitored for appropriate treatment and lifesaving care even when brain dead until the organs are harvested.

    I think this was actually one of the saddest deaths in which Pratt was a character you were initially supposed to hate; he arrived and dismissed one of the most popular characters (Greene) and didn't think he had anything to learn, was cocky and arrogant initially. Then slowly but surely he got under your skin and became an excellent doctor and a loveable character. This is why the Frank scene is so moving, they went from animosity to a deep and compelling respect shown by a simple but moving touch of the shoulder as he goes into the lift.

    • @aaronburgin1442

I never thought the show could go on without Dr Greene ( whose death traumatized me ) but it managed to hold its own. Lucy Knight"s death, Dr Pratt's death and Ray losing both his legs were also heartbreaking. Although I did watch the first few years of Grey"s Anatomy it does not light a candle to ER. One of the most underrated relationships on the show was that between Pratt and Frank (the desk clerk).
    It was Pratt who stayed with Frank in the cath lab after his heart attack, where Frank told him about the black soldiers he befriended in Vietnam.

      he's going to have his organs removed for donation. The way they wheeled him around is called an honor walk or memory walk. It's done in many hospitals when a patient takes the journey to organ removal. Doctors, nurses and other staff along with family and friends line the hallways to say their final GOODBYE.

    I remember this episode when it first aired. I still to this day remember the name of the lump on his neck that crept up out of nowhere and started the downward spiral to his death… It was a pulsatile mass. They don’t show in this clip but I remember when they were trying to irrigate the blood from his mouth that was seeping from that mass and a lone tear flowed down his cheek. Mekhi Pfeiffer did a phenomenal job selling the emotions that this character was experiencing in that moment. When that tear came down his cheek it was like his character knew what was coming. This had to be one of the top five most emotional episodes of ER.

    • @sallyphillips9175

      @conni2you 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@sallyphillips9175 I do remember that he was involved in the ambulance explosion. I don’t know why but even all these years later I remember the other doctors seeing a mass form on his neck and calling it a pulsatile mass. I am assuming that pulsatile indicates that it has something to do with his pulse or blood flow. I know when people hear the word mass they think cancer or tumor but that was not the case for this. This was a mass filled with blood. They had to clamp off his jugular to repair it and unfortunately the amount of time needed to do that repair meant almost certain brain death. Obviously that was the case for him.

    My husband, daughter and sister died in 2008 in a tragic accident. My husband was the only one who made it to the hospital but he died in the ER. Not hearing his heart beat was the loudest silence ever.
    I tried to stay away from sad stuff but ER was in its last season and I remember watching this and being blinded by tears because ER made everything so touching. It was all so close to home. His brother wanting the machines to stay on. That anguish, most of us have been there.
    DMX died on 4/9/21 and this is not a discussion about his character but for me it brought up memories of when my husband and I met, when we were young (I'm only 43 now) life was different then. I've been holding back tears because I didn't want to start crying for fear I'd never stop. It was National Siblings Day on 4/10 and TH-cam puts this in my recommends the very next day.
    Surprisingly the tears were a good release. Seeing Pratt lifeless is one thing, seeing the people around him that will mourn him is heartbreaking. That's the part that always makes me cry. I finally let everything out, took a breath, had a glass of water and feel calm.
    Amazing that TH-cam is better at this than my therapist.

    Pratt and Lucy Knight’s deaths made me understand even more how quickly life can be taken away. Both characters were awake and lucid one minute and the next they were gone. That’s how easy it was to leave this world and it doesn’t matter how young they were or how much potential they had. Just like that they were gone.

    This scene/episode gets me every time. It could've been him or Sam, and he wanted to protect Sam and have himself go, not knowing something like this would happen. He came from having and getting no respect, from having high respect for his team and him getting high respect from them. He went from the character you loved to hate to the one that everyone loved to love. From arrogant and cocky, to confident. Frank and him had a good relationship ever since he helped Frank when he had his heart attack. He became one of Morris' best friends. Him and Abby had a great bond. He was the one that people went to talk to about anything. Every single doctor and nurse in that emergency room loved him, as he earned their respect as a doctor and as a person. Chaz gained a great relationship with his brother. A respectable, honorable, and relatable doctor.
    I understand that TV series as long as this one did have to "k!ll" off characters, but this one probably hit the hardest, as this is one of my absolute favorite series. I was a kid when it was on, and I remember my grandma watching it. Now that I'm older and found it on Hulu, I got hooked on the show. There has not been a medical drama like this since then.
