  • Starting in Poughkeepsie, the Dutchess Rail Trail spans 13 miles through rural communities and rolling countryside. At trails end, be sure to visit the Hopewell Depot. Built in 1873 it offers a museum and photo gallery of the railroad age.
If you really want to make a ride of it, start at the western end of the Hudson Valley Rail Trail, ride the Walkway Over the Hudson, connect directly to the Dutchess Rail trail, which then connects to the Maybrook Trailway for a ride of approximately 45 miles one-way. This ride took place on May 14, 2022.
This trail is part of the 750 mile long Empire State Trail system, and was inducted into the Rail Trail Hall of Fame in 2016.

Been watching all of your videos and laughing with my wife. We had planned to do this exact style of channel on regular bikes, but searching out the great rail trails and biking them together. This is a great job you have done here.

Thanks for watching. We are really enjoying searching out trails. Gets us to places we would never go it if weren’t for our channel. So much more fun than sitting on a beach in FL!

Another great video. Thanks! I just did the part east of Hopewell last week and loved it. Do you know where you'll be biking next?

Hi. Thanks for watching and for your kind comments. We just finished biking the Niagara Peninsula in Canada. Next trip is the Cleveland/Columbus, Ohio area, and this fall we end our biking season in Virginia/West VA. Next week’s video will be the Allegheny River Trail north of Pittsburgh. We hope to “see” you on the next ride.

Did you guys get new bikes from Gazelle? I enjoy watching your videos. My wife and I ride the trails at Cape Cod every July but may try out some of your other rides in a few years after we retire. Thanks again. 🚴🏼‍♂️

HI. We bought new bikes last fall. They are Gazelle’s. We chose them because (1) there are enough dealers to service them across the country, (2) we needed more range and they can go up to 90 miles on a charge, and (3) we wanted to sit straighter. The drive on these bikes are cool because we don’t have derailed and gears, it is a hub with internal gears. Thanks for your kind words and we hope to “see” you on our next ride.
