    The trail is family-friendly, but it's not uncommon to encounter riders speeding downhill as if they have something to prove. On one occasion, we paused to snap some photos, only to be shouted at by a passing cyclist who claimed we were disrupting his Garmin-recorded times by slowing him down.

    I was introduced to your channel today, and have watched a few of your videos. I like and use TrailLink as well. However, compared to my real favorite bike-trail-related app/site - AllTrails - there are a couple of detractors that TrailLink should improve. While it is possible to save "Completed Trails", that is the only option. In AllTrails it is possible to create multiple lists of trails and to add trails to one or more of those lists. This allows you to have, for example, a Wishlist of trails, as well as Completed, Partially completed, or any other grouping you may wish (I create a new wish list for each of our cross-country road trips, and then add those trails we actually complete to the Completed list).

      Thanks for watching. You never know what a trail is like if you don’t ride it. And we agreed when we started our channel that we were going to show all the trails we ride, not just the ones that we think are great. We love the fact that we are out on our bikes, and trying riding new trails gets us to parts of the country we might not have given any thought to. One thing we hope to accomplish is to give viewers a realistic picture of what the trail is like so they can make their own decision on whether or not they want to ride it. We appreciate your support.

    I spent many summers in Kennebunkport and are somewhat familiar with the area. I REALLY want to like this trail, particularly after all the hype it gets. However, it’s FAR too fragmented with on-road riding. I can handle “through neighborhoods” but route 1, no thanks. I’m going to check further, but I THINK one can ride northward on trails from the Bug Light area to the Portland waterfront and then onto the Eastern Promenade and around the Back Bay. Thank you for your honest reviews.

    • @Adventuresonebikes
      @Adventuresonebikes 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I really wanted to love this trail, but too many road crossings - and some where 4 lane highways - for my taste. I think you may be on to something regarding hitting the Eastern Promenade. We wish we had another day to ride around downtown because when we passed through in the car it looked like they had a cool waterfront area. Thanks for taking a minute to share your thoughts and for your support of our channel.

    If you ever get the urge to check out the Down East Sunrise trail on your bikes, don't bother. It is a multi user trail (read lots of motorized 4 wheelers), deep sand, railroad ballast and acceleration bumps from the motor vehicles. We rode about 5 miles of it a few years ago and had to bail out and ride the road. And the road out to Machias doesn't really have much if any shoulder. Felt good to put that one behind us.

    Thank you, very entertaining! There are two historic USGS topographic maps that show the locations of the trestles. Look up USGS Historical Topographic Maps Oregon for the TNM downloader. The two sheets that you are looking for are Gales Creek (1941) and Vernonia (1940), both are 15" (1:62,500) scale. A little hard to read, but they show the location of the trestles. There might be other historical maps out there at a better scale. I suspect that they removed them for safety reasons as timber doesn't last forever that near to the coast.

      Thanks for your suggestion. We were riding in the lowest assist level available because we want to make sure we are getting exercise and also conserve battery life for the unknown. So the grade made it take a little more energy than if we were on flat; and it appeared that we were on that grade for a while. It's an interesting question as to whether our bikes in the lowest assist level would provide any more or less help than any other ebike under the same circumstances -- but we ride Gazelle Ultimate C8's. I'll try to remember to include these little details in the future. Thanks for watching.

    Fun Video. As a side note - there are some other features on this trail that would have been worth adding video. As I recall, there were several campsites along the trail between Hyak & your starting place. The resort was a great add in that vein. Thank you! - as a side note: as I get older, the notation of the vault toilets are good to see.

    It sounds like you added a throttle to a mid drive e-bike, is that right? Can you tell me which mid drive motor you have and how you added a throttle to it?. I have an older bike with a conversion kit with hub motor, from before e-bikes were easy to buy pre-made. I consider a throttle A essential safety feature, but very few pre-built e-bikes in the US come with a throttle. Would love to know how to get and off the shelf mid drive e-bike, and add a throttle to it. Thank you very much. I'm considering an e-bike with a mid-drive to make tire changes easier, and for more torque for steep hills. The other thing I like about my conversion kit (Grin Tech) is that the electric assist curves are very tunable. For example, I can set it up to have very little assist in the beginning until I hit a certain level of horsepower input, and then the assist ramps up very quickly, and have 9 levels of assit that i can change with a thumb switch without moving my hand from the grip. I'm not sure if any of the commercial bikes allow this level of adjustability yet.

      Great questions. Unfortunately I don't know the answer to any of them. We had the throttle added at the dealer and we don't own those bikes any longer because they were class 3's and we wanted new bikes for other reasons.

      @@marklong8608our current bikes are Gazelle Ultimate C8s. They are Class 1 so no throttle. It’s our understanding we can’t add one. We bought them for a couple of reasons: we wanted a battery that let us go more miles on a charge and wanted a more upright riding experience. Our bikes can get up to 90 miles on a charge and are more of a touring bike. Also has a belt drive so no messing with a greasy chain falling off the sprocket. We are very happy with them. They state they only allow Class 1 ebikes. But I've never seen anyone in "authority" out policing anything related to the types of bikes people ride on any of the trails we've been on. When you think about it, it's pretty impractical, and a huge waste of resources. Someone would have to pull the bike over to even figure out what it was I would think. So I wouldn't worry about it. Thanks for watching and happy trails.

    How do you handle these long trails? Only in sections or do you have two cars and park one on the other end? Just curious. I'd love to take on the Rio Grande trail but 84 miles in one day seems a bit much. I suppose I could park or stay half-way and only do the half-way to Aspen one day and then half-way to Glenwood Springs the next day.

    • @Adventuresonebikes
      @Adventuresonebikes 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The trail is 42 miles long as you know, so yes it's a long ride in a day if you had to go up and back. We usually ride a trail in sections -- so there are many times we can't actually ride the entire trail -- but we try to get enough to give viewers an idea of what to expect. On the Rio Grande Trail I know I read that the bus will take you and your bike from one end to the other, but not ebikes. So you could ride one way and take the bus back if you were riding a regular bike. Sometimes we've done what you mentioned -- park/stay in the middle and go one way one day up and back, other direction the next. I think that's how we'll do the Greenbrier Trail whenever we can fit that in. We did hire someone on the Elroy Sparta Trail in Wisconsin who took us to the end of the trail in our car and then went and parked it where we would end up. We would love to find that type of service more (because ebikes need a special carrier), and I can't find a lot of services that do that when I search for many of these trails. I know there are also trains that allow bikes, but we haven't had the chance to see if they would handle ebikes (the Katy Trail comes to mind). Great question. Thanks for watching.

    • @JasonTaylor-po5xc
      @JasonTaylor-po5xc 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Adventuresonebikes Yeah, I think longer trails are hard to do. At least there are several towns that someone could stay in along the way. Even so, it is hard to coordinate with a family as much e-bike carriers only support 2 bikes, so we are looking at multiple cars. Or, the expense of renting.

    In 2019 we rented an Airbnb in Sequim for a few nights and rode towards Port Townsend one day and towards Port Angeles on another day on regular bikes, but an ebike would have been much better as it was hilly on the ride toward Port Angeles. Now we have e-bikes and want to ride from Port Angeles to the coast over 3 days and another 3 or 4 days back. Biggest challenge is finding availability in motel or cabin with electricity to recharge batteries each night. It’s helpful to see where you park your RV and get your review of riding conditions!😊

      Thanks for the feedback on our addition of where we camp. I'm thinking the only way you may be able to handle a multi day trip on the Olympic Peninsula is to carry a spare battery? I know our bikes will accommodate a second, but we haven't every tried because I always want to camp where I have access to electricity 🔌 Thanks for watching.

    Maybe 5 years ago, I rode this trail. I started out at Emlenton. When I arrived at the first tunnel, I was really skeptical about riding through it. I did have a light but it was big time insignificant. Plus, my equilibrium is lousy without visual references. I decided not to be stupid and turned around. But a large group of bikers arrived so I decided to follow them using them as the reference. Haha, didn't work. They peddled much faster than I did and soon I was in pitch black and no sighting of either end. I fell. It was a nasty fall but thankfully nothing broken. I walked the rest of the way out. I was in too much pain to keep going, so I walked around a little bit and noticed the sun was setting and pointing directly down the tunnel. I took advantage of that. But soon after, I entered the darkness again and hit the brakes before I lose my balance. Because I hit the brakes so hard, the bike came to a stop but unfortunately I kept going with the bike landing on me. Hahaha I walked out again. If you don't have REALLY bright lights or have a balance problem, WALK through the tunnel. I also felt that the roadway reflective markers were insufficient even with my small light. There was no reflection from them. Maybe they've been replaced since I was there. I rode the trail again the following year but during the Fall. I actually enjoyed the trail without all the foliage because I could see the river most of the time along with the setting sun. I felt it was far more scenic than during the summer. I didn't go into the tunnel. When I invest in proper lighting, I'll return. Thanks for video.

      WOW! We really appreciate your sharing your experience -- but it sounds like it was hairy and scary.
