This is the first Famicom game I bought. I liked Star Force and was curious about its sequel. I was never able to get very far. It’s more interesting in concept than practice. I think they didn’t want to make the shooting sections as hard as the first game so the player can focus more on exploration. Not a bad idea but it ends up feeling bland as you say.
"That makes this the first Famicom game about time travel." My gosh! 'Lum no Wedding Bell' was so terrible RndStranger has suppressed the memory of ever playing it! Or it just doesn't really meet the proper definition of time travel. That could be it.

Would you say this game is difficult to figure out or overly cryptic without a guide? I just bought the game the other day

If you want a better shmup/adventure hybrid on the famicom, check out guardic gaiden aka the guardian legend
huh and I thought The Guardian Legend was the first to do the shmup/zelda combo. sounds like TGL was the better game, though.
