Yeah, I definitely prefer the approach of lumping certain games together to make for one big memorable video. You knocked it outta the park with this trilogy.
Fun fact: star soldier is one of the few famicom games that utilizes the mic. At certain points in the game power ups will appear if you yell into the mic. Not much but it’s something lol.
I love how casually you say "World War 3 wasn't so bad, so silver linings." I was caught off guard and laughed pretty hard! Keep up the great material, my NES Friend!
@@NESFriend Thank you! I only had Xevious as a kid so that came right to my mind. Been playing some of my old nessie games and I find that the "only" with many of them is difficulty :)
More than any other NES Friend, this one you chose to highlight clips that made you look like a gaming expert. This is the "surprisingly good haircut" of your videos.
At the very least, Starship Hector is close enough to Star Soldier that the first "history" theme also appears in Super Star Soldier. Then again, it also appears in Robowarrior/Bomber King, so maybe Hudson just really loved it. ;)
The Japanese versions of Star Force and Star Soldier were common in bootleg famiclone multicarts. As for Star Force which it's own series (by Tecmo, since the arcade version was from Tecmo predecessor Tehkan), that one got a sequel (Super Star Force) that was released only in Japan, but recently it has an English patch. So in turn, Tecmo published the NES Star Force in the USA, and decided to make their own Famicom sequel for Japan only, and later, Final Star Force came out for arcades. The arcade version of Star Force was re released in 2015 on PS4 under the Arcade Archives brand.
Soldier Blade is so good! The games in this video are definitely basic by today’s standards but they weren’t too bad at the time. I still think Life Force may be the best shooter on the NES though. Great video dude!
Believe it or not I first found out about Star Force at my local car wash. They had the cab in the back room for people to play while you wait. You got to play an awesome shooter and get a clean car. Heck ya. Takahashi Meijin, the person who Master Higgins is based off of still holds the record for firing 16 shots in 1 second for Star Soldier. I'm not a huge fan of the Xevious style shooters so I never spent much time with Hector. More games need a useless Title Screen option.
Super Star Soldier is so much better but it is nice that the first one is on NES Online for switch. I love that the caravan version was added as a secret on the TurboGrafx Mini.
I play Star Force so much on NES and Famicom Port I play Famicom Port of Star Force which is my first Tecmo Game when I was a 8 year old child since 2009. I'm really good at Star Force on Famicom my goal is to get 200,000 pts and 300,000 pts
So I was watching this on my smartphone a little bit ago and a advertisement, or two advertisements tried to play at the start of each game title screen / introduction of the three different Shmups.. a couple of those ads belongs to that fit looking guy that is alluding to being a healthy man and then doesn't tell you what he's even talking about and tells you to click the link.. an easy 8 minutes lost. Then a debate or something with Biden and this lady talking about finances or something... for 57 minutes. What the hell youtube, or monetization?! The "ads" combined easily multiply this videos length by 8x to 10x easily. Yes I know I can skip the ads after about 6 to 7 real-time seconds (even though it says 5), but it's still ridiculous people!

It's easy to dismiss these today but Star Force is pretty historically significant in the history of competitive gaming and shmup design.

Neat video! Love your channel. It's a great source for inspiration :)
Starship Hector seams a fusion between Xevious and Gradius...
Thanks Samuel! And yeah, I agree on Hector.
@@NESFriend Thank you!

Star Force was one of the first arcade games I remember playing at the youth center so many years ago. The cabinet was called Mega Force.

Just know I had to comb through 9 hours of footage for the perfect ten minutes to share
Great video about bad games! Happy you added that part about the Star Force progression!
Crabmaster everyone! ^^^
"Don't answer that" ...lol...good call

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's how I played those two. Never played Starship Hector though.

Hey thanks! Life Force is great. That and Gun Nac are probably my favorites.
I like watching NES game videos.
That's good news, Adrian! :)

I know that wasn't the intention but suddenly I have an urge to buy retro shoot 'em ups.
They also release 3 shooters on Super Famicom and GBA on Hudson Best Collection Vol.5
I played Soldier Blade a few weeks ago, that's a good one and it doesn't seem to have anything in common with these games other than its genre.

Oh I didn't realize that, that's interesting!
Confession - I like Star Force....!
I own this on my SNES multi cart your right it is kind on lack Luster. Your space ship kind of looks like the Galaga ship
What about the Hector controller for Famicom? (Made by Hudson) ;)
STAAAAAARS!
Happy Wednesday all!
I coulda sworn it was Thursday. Thanks u2
Look to Ego, The Living Planet from Marvel on how a planet can commit murder
Or Unicron ;)
The Japanese TV ads were more entertaining than the games themselves. lol

Ugh. Sorry
Those pesky computers. Always trying to take over the galaxy.
I played through Star Soldier recently. It sucked. Its so long.
Star Force is the first part of the "Force" trilogy of shmups on the NES. Star Force, Life Force, and Crisis Force.
Just kidding.
They really changed things up for Fighting Force.
@@NESFriend Yeah, then they totally lost me when Shining Force turned out to be nothing like the action-packed games of old.
