    I've been following this channel since Modal Y came into sight. A 7 seater is perfect for our family in weekend trips with two daughters and grand-daughter in 2nd row, two son-in-laws in 1st row, wife and me in 3rd row. I’m 5’8 medium build, my wife is 5’5 and we are very comfortable in the third row. I even take off my shoes just to get an extra inch of space. On a hot summer day, we need the air fan at high speed since there is no outlet in the back. I also reduce tire pressure to 38 to deal with bumpy streets.

    Just picked-up my M3 almost exactly a month ago. When I went to the dealer for a test drive, the Tesla representative informed me about the Referral program, as well as explaining to me that finding a unit already built would net me ~$3,000 off the cost of ordering one. That was incredibly awesome of her to do that, and the purchase experience was simply the best I've experienced in 35 years of car buying. Great stuff!

    Well darn, I wish I had seen this video a week ago. My lease was up and I just picked up my 2nd Mdl Y last Wednesday. Had I known I could have used my own referral code and gotten points and 90 days FSD I would have. When the service rep called I said before I ordered I wanted to get someone’s referral code for the $500 bucks. He said no prob I’ll just give you the $500 off. No points or FSD for me. D’oh! No that I would have kept the FSD but like you said it would have been fun to try. May call Tesla and beg.
    Telsa did wave the $300+ disposition fee on the lease return as well as a $500 credit off any excess wear & tear.

    I think FSD is great on a subscription basis so that you can use it when you want a month at a time. Personally, I would use it for extended trips, so it would be cheap.

    Very good explanation of the process. Ryan let me ask you, if you have to buy a Y now, which one would you prefer. option 1: a used 2022 Y standard range with 4K miles with Full FSD. for 51K. Option2 Brand new 2023 with HW4 for 47k, use 3 months FSD trial when available and subscribe to FSD when needed. I liked the Idea of buying older Y with 15K FSD and just 4 K miles, but I will always have back in my mind I did not Y with Latest HW and camera and suspension improvement which is actually a very important thing to me, I drive Q7 which is super quite and extremely comfortable suspension, I recalled driving to KW non stop from Nashville, I absolutely have to fatigue at all. I hear many new Y owner say that new Y has much improved suspension and quite ride.

    FSD made me super anxious when I used it. Couldn’t imagine doing that on a regular basis. That’s a feature I can do without lol. I’m more stressed while the car drives itself than I would be if I just drove myself.

  • @6strings7fingers
    @6strings7fingers 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Could you please warn prospective buyers that, if you want the $500 off via a referral code, you must initiate the purchase with the referral code link. I found this out the hard way: I went to Tesla's website, ordered my car, and assumed I would have the opportunity to add the referral code much like I often add coupon codes on other websites. Not so. When I called Tesla about this, I was told there was no way to add the referral code after the order was initiated. I could only cancel the order and start again, which did no good since, by canceling the order, I lost the $250 order fee, and would get charged another $250 order fee on a second order, thus using up the benefit of the referral code. I'm still a little ticked off about this, but might feel better if I can prevent others from making the same mistake.

    You should really make sure to disclose that the referral is not available in all states. My brother bought a Tesla in state of Ohio. I used his referral code and expected a discount but in the end, I was told that Ohio is not eligible for referrals. Kind of sucks, but you should make sure folks know this in advance.

    Thanks Ryan, you always have good information to keep in mind when buying or configuring a Tesla. The one I appreciated the most was NOT to buy the upgraded larger rims/wheels because of the much rougher ride. I think people buy them thinking they look great and end up regretting it because the ride is not as good as the standard smaller diameter rims.

    • @chiplangowski3298
      @chiplangowski3298 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      This is very true. I am buying a MY right now. When test driving, they first put me into a MY Performance. I did not like that car at all. The ride was literally a deal breaker for me and had me thinking about buying something different like the Mach-e or the Ionic 5. Just to be sure, I set up another test drive and told them that I wanted to drive one with the 19" wheels. I told them I had no interest in the 20"ers, either. The Model Y with the 19" wheels rides so much better. Enough so that I completed the order.

      Tomayto tomahto. I have the 21’s on my Model S. Love the look, love the ride.
      Do I know I’ll get a quieter, less bumpy ride with smaller wheels? Yes. And am sacrificing some range? Yes. But I still prefer the 21’s.
      Wheels are like shoes, and humans will often choose style over comfort, beauty over convention, expensive over more affordable. And I’m glad Tesla offers the choice.

    I just bought a 2023 Model 3P and transferred the FSD from my 2018 Model 3LR. However, my 2018 was left with basic autopilot even though it was delivered in 2018 with enhanced autopilot, a $5000 upgrade at the time. When I first drove my 2018 after the transfer it said "Your vehicle no longer has FSD and has been restored to its original configuration". That's not true, of course. I have the original sticker to prove it. This was not disclosed before I purchased the 2023. However, during the week I was waiting for my 2023, I noticed they changed the FAQ on the website saying the transferring vehicle will be left with Basic. It seems like I lost $5k on the deal....

    While the Mobile Connector may be slower than the Wall Connector for some models another actor to consider is your home electrical supply. Going for a faster (and more expensive) wall connector may require electrical upgrades to handle the higher electrical load. Home electrical upgrades can soon get into the $1,000's of dollars.
    32 Amps is plenty for home charging, most vehicles will go from empty to full in around ten hours. Most EV drivers don't allow their cars to get down to empty anyway so daily charge times are often an hour or two and that's it. Why go for extra speed that may end up saving you maybe 30 minutes while you sleep and won't notice the difference anyway?

    • @Brian-rm8dn
      @Brian-rm8dn 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My house is only 22 yrs old so when I installed my wall connector no new panel required. I went w wall connector vs drier plug for faster charge. And I was lucky w that choice. My electrician told me when the drier plugs get hot in their garages they quit charging or drop charge rate significantly whereas not wall connector. I live in Texas. My install was $500. No complaints.

As we should keep in mind, not everyone can charge at home. But even if. Model Y claims "326 mile range" for the "long range" version of the car at $60,000. its REAL WORLD range is:
    best case = 252 miles in hot weather 22% less than claimed
    worse case = 118 miles in cold weather 62% less than claimed
    this assumes you dont use extra features like AC and that you drive conservatively.

      The Model Y Long Range sells for $50,490, not $60,000, and its claimed range is 330 miles, not 326 miles.

      Next to the word "Range" on every car manufacturers US website there are a few letters that say "EPA est." - What do we think does this "EPA est." mean?
      If you switch on the ordering website for the Model Y from US to UK version the range suddenly increases? - What could be the reason for this?
      Nobody is claiming "real world range" anywhere cause nobody could know how you are going to drive your car.
      I can recommend Björn Nyland's "1000km challenge" and his "sunday driving" reports to figure out the range of a Model Y in various scenarios. Your assumptions about real world range are simply ridiculous.
      You get 118miles of range if you drive 125mph on the Autobahn, not because of "cold weather" lol

      @mikereinhardt1244 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Highly unlikely unless you live at the top of a long steep hill. Just backing out of the driveway will give you some room in the battery for regenerative braking. All the rest of the driving will do the same thing. Also, and this I am not sure about, so it is worth looking into, just because the battery is full does not mean the regenerative braking can't be used, you just don't get the electricity from it (i.e. it is wasted). Not sure if the software works that way or not. My PHEV if the battery is full and I hit the brakes will use the engine as a brake, so I still don't wear the brakes, but I don't get any benefit from it.

      "The cheapskate ends up paying the most" It's already too late for free supercharging, free Teslas from points, and cheap $5k FSD. FSD is $15k today but will go even much higher in price when it's "finished". Already people lost $10k by "waiting". Teslas always go UP in price except for temporary incentives. No USA EV maker turns a DIME profit on their EVs and none can actually make any at numbers so "competition" is a moot point as well. Basically it always the 'best" time to buy a Tesla, just ask the hundreds of thousands that have free supercharging for life, that's not worth nothing !! The one caveat if you are late in buying a Tesla and want an M3 you MIGHT want to wait for the Highland update because at least it looks a lot cooler but again will it start at $40k like a current M3?👀

    I think you may have got two things slightly wrong about the model 3 in your recent video. One I am only pretty sure about, but not 100% sure, the other I am. First is that you mentioned with the LFP battery you can charge to 100% so you will get the full range every day. Though true the problem there is that for the majority of people they don't need much range daily when charging up at home. When they need longer range is a road trip, and for a road trip, though you can still charge to 100% the charging curve for the LFP batteries are not much different than they are for the NMC (traditional) batteries. So, unless you are stopped for lunch and can wait a long time for the charge you are still going to be limited when the range matters to 80-90% (maybe less if you are really in a hurry).
    Second thing you said (this is the one I am not 100% sure about) is that the long range model 3 does not have LFP batteries. I don't think this is true, in the US anyway. The older long range (2021 and older) used NCM cells (2170, I think). but when the new one arrived back on the website in the configurator there were 2 changes: first was that the EPA range dropped from 358 to 333 miles. Second, is that when it first came out, just like the standard range it didn't qualify for the full 7500 tax credit, only 3750. They both got updated to a full 7500, and I don't know why. But those 2 facts make me believe that the long range is also using the LFP cells. I can't be sure, they don't really tell you.
    Anyone that has a 2023 model 3 LR can you tell us if it recommends charging to 100% at least once a week? If so then we will know it is LFP for sure. Found this on the web too:
    Do I have LFP battery Model 3?
    To determine if your Tesla has an LFP battery, navigate to Controls > Software > Additional Vehicle Information on your Tesla's touchscreen. If you see “High Voltage Battery type: Lithium Iron Phosphate” listed, your Tesla has a LFP battery

    • @JeanPierreWhite
      @JeanPierreWhite 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The advantage of 100% daily charging for the LFP battery is that the car is always ready to go. You don't have to do a special 100% charge before a road trip. It requires little battery care, which for a new buyer who knows little about EV's is a good thing.

    • @mikereinhardt1244
      @mikereinhardt1244 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@JeanPierreWhite I didn't say that LFP has no advantages, and I personally would want an LFP version just for the safety, but I also want a LR version, so... matters to me if those are LFP or not.
      Point was that I don't want people watching this and thinking they will get 100% of the range on all their DC quick charges. Again, if they are willing to wait, they can, but it will take a while just like with the NMC batteries. Some road trippers may see that as a limitation. If you are normally charging at lunch it is an advantage because you won't get charged for idle time, or rather it will be charging the whole time you are eating and you don't have to go move your car.
      Not making a judgement call, just being more clear on where the advantages are for LFP. Quicker charging from 80%+ is not one of those advantages.

I want a vehicle that is made in the US with batteries made here as well, what particular chemistry the batteries use is of much less concern to me than where they are made.
    If anyone reading my comments is considering a vehicle with Chinese batteries, keep in mind that China's economy is currently imploding. The corruption and incompetence of the CCP is finally coming back on them. The possibility of revolution or worse, Xi starting a war in order to distract the people (like Galtieri in 1982), is extremely high right now.
