    I bought the Aventon bike for myself about a week ago, thanks to your review. My Christmas present just got here and delivered to Richmond Virginia put it together absolutely love it. Couple things to note with this bike when you put the battery in you got to close it hard or it does not snap in place I should say firm when you close it and you hear that snapping into place. Also this bike is a lot bigger than I thought it would be it looks like a vintage motorcycle. Everybody absolutely loves it. But it is a lot bigger than I thought however I love the bike its alot of fun.

      For a $200.00 difference, The Aventon blows Rad off the planet.... hands down. The current price-point for this bike is $1999.00. Still, hard for any Ebike to compete, much less beat when comparing comparably priced Ebikes.

    Ordered one 2 days ago. Before ordering, I tried calling customer support to confirm the model was in stock and would ship the next day. It was probably 3-4 minutes, but someone did pick up and confirm. Unfortunately, the bike didn't ship the next day and its now the weekend. Interestingly, I got a general email from their customer support saying they recognize support has been lacking and they are making efforts to do better. Keeping my fingers crossed.

    Great review!!! I totally agree with your assessment that this bike was built from the ground up to be an e-bike. So many awesome features on this bike that make my Rad5 look like an antique. But with all those great features, they went and ruined it all by putting the throttle on the left side! And a granny thumb throttle to boot. What the heck? As a life long motorcycle rider this is ridiculous. One would think with all the options available, they would offer one with a twist throttle on the correct side. :(

    Excellent vid, really like the comparison. Since I bought a Himiway Cruiser for myself, I have been looking for one my wife will fit on. So we need to see what your Misses thinks about the bike :) My wife has been stuck on the Himiway Escape as it would fit her (5’3”) and the other ebikes with multiple frame sizes just haven’t clicked with her. I’m going to show her this vid hoping it sparks an alternative thought because I really like the upgraded features on this bike and think it would be easy for her to use and ride (that computer setup screen is showing the bike companies are listening and the tech is evolving as it should). Keep up the great work

    The current ebike phenomenon is very similar to the automobile market in the early 1900s. RadPower Bikes has created the Ford Model T, a very popular bike, but limited it in the amount of options, colors, power etc. to keep the price down. Now the competition has upped the ante. Will RadPower respond and create an even better RadRover? Or will we look upon it with fondness because it was the first of the breed, but sadly no longer relevant.

    • @CitizenCycle925
      @CitizenCycle925  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      You know I almost put that exact comparison in my video. The rad bike made me think of Henry Ford saying customers can have any color they want as long as it's black.

    • @goobfilmcast4239
      @goobfilmcast4239 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You do know that Ford Motor Company has weathered the financial storms that rocked other US auto makers (and didn't need Gov't loans during the "great recession")..... and is really the last pure American Car Company....anyway, I am certain Rad will add some spit and polish to their next iteration of e-bikes but the overall style will likely change very little. Lots of smaller e-bike companies will likely fold (or revert back to their "Chinesium" origins) when supply chains open back up and the COVID-induced shortages (and price increases) clear. Mass Market companies like Rad will benefit from that.

    • @elevenAD

      Rad is NOTHING like the early car manufactuers or auto industry. They are merely an importer, riding the wave, and just importing 3rd part made chinesium bikes, from an obscure factory in Asia. Aventon owns its factory, does all its own design, engineering , and quality control. Rad has great marketing, and sucks a lot of people in with that marketing. But the Rad ebikes are very rough , and nearly crude JV builds compared to the very refined Aventon quality builds, made by who knows what, and you hope they hold up.

      Rad has zero dealers except a few company owned locations. They keep stumbling with the whole mobile thing, and badly burning a lot of that VC cash on trying to find a model that would bleed them dry. Every mobile bike service venture has hemorraged money, and that is with a gazzillion more bikes out there, than ebikes. Not enough ebike owner/rider density to make mobile work, and they will learn that the very hard way. The bike industry sells 20 million bikes a year, and there are hundreds of millions of bike owners. Whereas with ebikes, there are still only sales of around 750,000 annually, and maybe a population of 3 million total in the US by now. Mobile service for ebikes is a non-starter for most of the US, unless that mobile van can also do service for regular bikes. It would make zero sense to do that though, as regular bike owners are mostly too cheap and tightwadded, to pay what mobile really costs.

      My Adventure is at my local bike shop for assembly. This shop is not an Aventon dealer, but said they will honor warranty work on the bike if approved by Aventon. The bike shop did come up as a drop point for assembly thru Beeline. Not sure if the bike shop would perform "out-of-warranty" work on the bike though. Will ask them that question when I pick the bike up.

    For 2 weeks my wife and I have been researching for our first ebike and all of your comparison videos have been fantastic and extremely helpful. I enjoy how methodical you are while being honest, fair and neutral as possible, but willing to call a spade a spade as well. I have to say your Aventon Aventure Step Through comparison to RadRover 5 video had perfect timing. Literally today (May 2) we were about to pull the trigger between a (RadRover Step Through 1, not available until Sept 2021) or an (Espin Nesta, not available until June) when your video popped up. My wife is ~5’3” so the Aventure Step Through in the small/medium size frame appears to be well worth the extra $200 versus RR5. Furthermore, the Aventure website indicated, “ships in 24 hours”, however the order confirmation said: “…due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Holiday season. The lead time prior to shipping of in-stock items may be delayed up to 8-10 business days…” The fact that the shipping schedule changed the minute after we paid is a red flag. Hopefully the bike really does come in a reasonable amount of time and the shipping schedule does not slide further. Looking forward to e riding (soon?).

      I have a 20 inch CSC fat tire ebike and am thinking of adding a front hub motor for more torque--do you think that is something wise to do--i want the torque for trail and going uphill--not for speed.I just do not want to butcher the bike or make it unstable--I was going to use a throttle only setup.Just wondering if you had done anything similiar.The 750 motor on the bike is decent--but i like to trail ride and some are going uphill and I feel I am going to shorten the lif of the motor so i might as well spring for it now--that way both motors get used sparingly--there is no support from any bike shops that really repair these unless you bought them at the shop and i dread having a rear hub fail and trying to replace it in the near future--a front hub looks like something I could put in and then only use the stock motor for PAS pavement cruising to save its lifespan.

    Just purchased, the bike is at my local bike shop awaiting assembly. I have viewed a lot of comparison videos on this bike and realize I DID NOT make a mistake. The bike has a max weight payload of 400lbs, I weigh 270lbs and will be lugging a bunch of camera gear thru the National/state park trails. A lot of reviews of this bike complain about pedal strikes bc the crank is too low to the ground. There is an aftermarket shorter crank available. I am not riding aggressively, so I may not change the crank out..... will wait and see. I have back issues, so I will be changing the seat post out to one that has suspension. Also, there is a handlebar tube accessory that allows adjustment to the handlebars which affects posture while riding. I need to keep my back as straight as possible, so I will probably add this accessory. Great review, you touched on all the major points. This bike, at the current price-point ($1999.00, 2022 price) is very hard to compete with, much less beat.

    Like the step through and the thick gusset at the chain ring along with the solid head set prevents frame flex. Certainly a more advanced look then the Rad Rover step through. Too a beefy masculine yet refined stance. Solid axle front is totally cool. Understand things come up on you seemingly come nowhere. Boom! There it is and front wheel strength is king! Man that head set is solid, massive. Like this bike very well thought out. Nice review as always. Perfect details as to specific differences. I will say the dumbness of the Rad monitor simplifies problems that come with advanced circuitry. Yeah Rad motors are sadly comparison inadequate and more so with each passing year.

      You should have looked at CSC--their 20 inch and 26 inch have true 750 bafang motors (steep uphills--motor puts out 1300 to 1400 watts of power)--cost under 1700 dollars--are in stock in a warehouse with customer phone support. I got mine in one week and have put about 100 miles a week--I also got the 20 inch fat bike--very light--has 60 plus range on the battery with very light peddling--PAS 3--I even rode it 55 miles--had half the battery bar and did another 8 on throttle only and it was still charged halfway.All these bikes for the most part share 90% of the same parts if you look deep enough--I just wanted to be able to phone call a US based company if i had any problems and CSC is an established motorcycle company and they designed the bike--so it feels very very stable--already did 34 mph on a medium downhill and the bike looks like a big BMX bike and not only is fast and stable--but it can eat what I would call a stage 3 trail i rode the other day--I had to get off the bike once for an 80 degree uphill turn--but the 750 motor pretty much kept me riding on pretty rough terrain--and going uphill to boot.I plan on adding a front hub motor for more torque for trail riding at some point.

I would be intimate seeing how those tire perform off-roading. They look like they could puncture easier, but that impression is just from the look. It might be just as tough as the Rad tires. Pay attention to what they weigh, I saw on this past weekend and the guy who owns was about 60, bought an ebike because a regular bike was kicking his butt. He struggles to get the ~56lbs on the bike rack on his car which is only about ~2 ft from the ground. Make sure you know what you plan to do with any ebike and what it weighs before you buy it. Bike weight is an awkward weight to handle and although 56lbs may not seem like much, take into consideration what you have to do with it.

I am also 6 ft tall and the bike is plenty big--the 20 inch which looks like a big BMX bike is actually the same size as my old moutnainbike--the 26 inch bikes are monsters and many of those weigh over 90 lbs.I made a decision to also get the smalle rone when a yout uber actually hurt his back unboxing a 26 inch ebike to finish assembly.BTW on the 20 inch you can raise the seat and it is much easier to manage.I plan on trying to take mine into the city--but will have to drive it to pubilc transportation first--and the 20 inch seems like I can do it.If you are a woman--get a 20 inch regardless--or you might be on your very tippy toes a lot--plus I have not noticed any comfort--I go on plenty of offroad trails with no problem--and i can use PAS 3 and go 15 to 20 mph with light peddling and keep up with folks starining hard to keep that pace up on jst a pedal bike.I am an ex mountainbiker that quit biking cause getting worn out took the joy--these new ebikes are great.

      @khronin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      BTW the moped looking bikes like ariels--the seats do not raise up and most of those are 100lbs--yeah they are fast--but they are more emopeds then bikes--you can replace the seat like I did on mine if you want more comfort--just be aware to check weights cause these ebikes can look small--but some weigh a LOT

    I'm considering the Aventon Aventure for my first ebike purchase. I'm a heavier rider (300 lbs) and I needed a heavy duty bike to hold my weight. When I searched the Aventon website, I was glad to know that the Aventure model can carry up to 400 lbs. I would prefer a step over Aventure in large, but if I really want a Aventure, I would be willing to settle for a step thru. I do like the Electric Red color that they use for the step thru. Regardless of which frame I choose, both would be perfect for trail riding which is what I'd like my ebike for.

I do want to say your channel has become my go to youtube channel for ebike reviews. The content is always full of great information and insight to what questions we may have about a bike we are looking at. Also thank you for all the videos you are working your butt off to make great content and it's working. Also it is easy to tell you love what you do. With all that out of the way I am 6ft 4 and weigh 275 pounds so one of my concerns is mileage with this battery and frame (wanting step through age 63). Most of your range test's by you at 175 only gives me an idea of what would be possible. I am worried about my weight on this step through frame and mileage.I love the sleek look of this bike but I do ride 2x a week a regular bike so I am in decent shape. Thank you again!!

      I just purchased the Adventure step thru. I too am old and heavy, 270lbs. I asked the bike shop salesman what was the worse-case-scenario for mileage on this bike and he replied "20 miles". I am assuming that was a mileage figure with the motor doing all the work. That is why I will purchase a backup battery, when available, b4 treking 15-20 miles thru the National/State park bike trails.

The back part of the frames are extended by a couple of inches, where the Box housing the controller is. The other difference is most fat tire bikes come with 190 mm dropouts. E-bikes like the radrover have 170mm In the rear.

    Just had a question Citizen. On some of the other Aventon model reviews I've seen online, they incorporate a " safety mechanism" where the throttle doesn't work until the bike is pedaled to 3-5? MPH. Did your throttle engage from a stopped position or did you have to get it moving first? A definite bummer to get that beast rolling on a hill from pedaling alone if Aventon has not changed that.

    • @kenrichmond6906
      @kenrichmond6906 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's not the case on the new models. You do have to be in at least pedal assist 1, but it's throttle on demand from stop.

    good review, as usual for CitzenCycle. I prefer your reviews over the so called experts. keep up the good work man. You mention the tail light. Coming from a Rad owner, I love the Aventure overall but the deal breaker for me is that low frame set tail light. Thanks, I have seen bunch of your reviews and I really like them.
    This new bike really looks good. I really like that they have a dealer network. Can you set the pedal assist per setting like you can on the Himiway? I am worried that from a stop, that without down throttling the Himiway the bike could get away from you. I don't think this is an issue with the mid-drive bikes like say a Trek. Speaking of Trek, why are these rear hub bikes about 1/2 of say a Trek bike, with no suspension and what I would assume are more expensive (for the fat tire bikes) tires?

    • @CitizenCycle925
      @CitizenCycle925  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Lee, I have not discovered any way to adjust the pedal assist settings, I think they're locked in. My best guess regarding the trek bikes would be that you're paying for the name a little bit and I would guess that they probably have some higher quality components shifters brakes suspension forks etc. plus mid drive motors tend to be more expensive, they're more powerful.
