that bit at the beginning where he tests out putting his shotgun in the anti gravity field is legitimately one of the most humanizing things I've ever seen a generic war shooter do for its characters
"Guys we got to make a shooter everyone will love, what can we take notes from" "Gamers like Gears, Dead Space, Quake, Doom..." "GREAT, make that!" "But, what one?" "Yeah, exactly"
For all the crap Gears of War gets for being grey and brown, it genuinely has a distinct visual style. Like any Gears character is clearly a Gears character.
Starting your game with a turret section is pretty ballsy move. Like, you probably know that this would alienate 80% of auditory by virtue of it's sheer boredness, but you're a chad and you don't care.
@Nasser1973 Who exactly am I parroting here? I didn't see anyone else say this game is mediocre and generic and those are the exact type of games Oboe plays. Feel free to explain how I used these words wrong
I like how the bad guys are sophisticated enough to create simulated environments for humanity without anyone noticing, but they are also just shirtless dudes with bayonets on their rifles
Ya know what was a fun 3rd person shooter that may or may not have aged terribly (I can't say because I haven't played it in ages)? *Fracture* . Oboe should play and make a video on Fracture sometime.
That would complete the trilogy of mediocre 3rd person shooters of the 7th gen: Dark void, Fracture and Inversion. Brink and Dark sector comes close although they are ok.
To be fair, Inversion looks and plays really great in today's bad games standards, it would be a really good one if it doesn't just copies shit from all other games and mash it into one. That plot twist in the end is also really good too despite the cutscenes just cutting off and teleporting characters to places they weren't there before.
damn i remember watching Jerma play this a long time ago when he did youtube and the only thing i remember from the game is “SHIT! THE GROUND IS SHAKIN’”
You should try a game called -Rupture (I think is the name),- its actually called Fracture. Its a 2000s 3rd person shooter, the main gimmick is you can raise/lower the terrain. Maybe because I was a child but I recall the shooting range being like, the most fun part of the game.
I remember seeing footage for this game at E3 07 or something, and then never hearing about it again. Could never remember the name to check if it actually existed. Thanks for solving that mystery.
I don't care what people say , I always loved and will love this game , it was so cool , it could run on my shitty desktop at max res with high framerate
The handful of good story beats this game has suggests either the Devs were really invested in this game story or it was a rejected HBO drama turned into a gears clone
Holy shit, this game. I didn't think anyone else knew about this one lol. Fun game i knocked out in a single day but i never heard anyone else talk about it.
Yo Oboe, you think Inversion is a bad Gears of War knock off? Try playing Mindjack or Quantum Theory for Xbox 360 or PS3. If you want a good Gears knock off? Play Binary Domain. It's available on Steam and backwards compatible on Xbox One X and Xbox Series X.
the game isn't bad, sure its a quite "budget look" to it, but the actual tech behind i t and the idea is incredible which very little studios ever tried to do. and you complaining about the "turret section" on the beggining the devs were actually trying to showcase their destruction tech.
Let me break down your comment for you my friend. First, pass a middle school language arts class so that whatever verbal diarrhea you just spilled out can make sense. Second were you a developer on this game? It's literally just jokes about a game that's like 15 years old. You don't need to take it so seriously. I hope those tips helped, have a great day!!! :)
I played this one like 10 or so years ago, and randomly remember its name today I don't remember if I enjoyed it, but I must have, since I played it to the end

oboe is satisfying my mild curiosity as a kid with no money staring at video game shelves in 2008.
"Guys we got to make a shooter everyone will love, what can we take notes from"

"GREAT, make that!"
"But, what one?"
"Yeah, exactly"
Watching oboe play a mediocre or terrible game and listening to him make fun of it with his deadpan delivery never ceases to make my day better
his deliveries are not deadpan at all lol
This game is nowhere near terrible or mediocre..
Considering the state of the games released nowadays, it's a good game.
For all the crap Gears of War gets for being grey and brown, it genuinely has a distinct visual style. Like any Gears character is clearly a Gears character.
I played it blind and that final twist made it worth it. The game was fun.
God the ending in this game is by far the most saddening thing as a kid

Spec Ops The Line moment
Oh damn! This takes me back, to when I was in high school. Depressed, working a shitty job spending my money on shitty games.
Love it.
shitty games have a charm when they're all you know
This ain't a shitty game thooo.

@@Merlaut715 It seems incredibly mediocre and generic.

2:36 was fucking hilarious. I thought it would be like a cliff edge.
I played this game and it glitched out to where I could fly around infinitely and could fly through walls
Not gonna lie, i like this 7 out of 10 mid xbox 360 era grey shooters videos. It somehow give nostalgia

Mom can we get Gears of War?
No honey we have Gears of War at home
Gears of War at home:
This is more like Gears of War at the discount videogame store.
I enjoyed this much more than Gears, gameplay-wise. I mainly play Gears for the story and characters.
Interesting game. I don't think I've heard of this, but maybe I just don't remember.
I remember GameStop selling them for 1$ each. I bought 20 for some reason 🤷🏼
One thing about this game is the absolutely amazing plot reveal and then twist at the end. Sure gameplay is Gears copy paste but I think it's worth it
the plot twist that it takes place on a space ship blew my mind back in the day i never saw it coming. its one twist i remember to this day.
To be fair, Inversion looks and plays really great in today's bad games standards, it would be a really good one if it doesn't just copies shit from all other games and mash it into one.
That plot twist in the end is also really good too despite the cutscenes just cutting off and teleporting characters to places they weren't there before.
you clearly don't play many games today. and the twist is some disney pixar style of lazy writing

Would've been interesting to learn more about the ship they were on and who built it. Shame the PC port is shite.
At this point, my guess is that it's a generational colony ship gonne bad. Science fiction is rife with those.
My boy better be playing some Battle: Los Angeles and a fresh Timeshift soon
*dead wife any percent speed run*

Such destructible environments, much wow.

I thought the gears of wars series already did that to itself.
First there were CoD clones.
Then there were GoW clones.

If you want a good Gears knock off? Play Binary Domain. It's available on Steam and backwards compatible on Xbox One X and Xbox Series X.
forgot to mention that binary domain is the *other game* the incredibly competent Yakuza dev team made back in that time.
Quantum Theory is definitely the biggest Gears ripoff. It was basically Japan's attempt to capitalize on the Gears hype.
Hope he plays Binary Domain for how crazy it is. Super fond memories of it as a kid

I loved this game.
You know? Tom Ska made publicity for the game but i think that video would be more remember than the game
Woah the multiplayer in inversion looked like if you were playing gears of war 3 and using the character Minh but if he let himself go.
When I was first playing this game, it felt so much like Gears of war that I was actively tapping the reload button.
I’ve been thinking about this game recently. Forgot what the fuck it was so…I can die happy now
Wait wait wait... Inversion, time travel, war from the future... Did Christopher Nolan base Tenet on this game?
