- This session I really wanted to catch something that would give me a good scrap and what better fish to target than the barbel. Arguably the hardest fishing freshwater fish in the UK. This time of year they can be pretty tricky to catch. Colder temperatures can make them quite lethargic and tricky to track down, but persistence pays off as I found out in this session.

I doubt there's enough anglers in the UK to make it worth their while mate, Not when the budget can go to another spin off of love island or a similar circus which will sell more adverts.

My family used to own all that land , the Browns . Used to fish that part where the willows ended . Caught loads of chub around the three pound mark with a nice chunk of luncheon meat !.

I have to admit I'm a very fairweather angler, I feel like I have a lot of theoretical knowledge of fishing but for the last 5 years I have barely been out on the bank due to one thing or another. And tbh back then drop shotting wasnt a thing, but this channel inspired me to give it a go and I had a 2lb perch on my first session on the canal by my house. More luck than anything I'm sure but thank you.

cracking winters day fishing. most of us would be happy with that in july
I hooked one in the Ribble on 4wt fly gear and 6x tippet was on a red squirmy worm fly. Thought I’d hooked the bottom for the first 15 seconds so was making preparations to yank the fly free or wade out and kick the fly off the snag. I basically yanked it to near the surface thinking it was a stick or something got a little glimpse of a massive fish by then it had realised something was up and it shot off down river, I panicked and upped my drag instantly snapping me off. Not something I expected at all a huge barbel on the fly and definitely my one that got away story.
Wish scandinavia had Barbel. Such cool fish. Not many large bottom feeders in our rivers for whatever reason.
Great video bud, outstanding fish! Been trying to get my first barbel but only chub at the moment. Still…..two 4lb fish and a 4lb 15 today so I’m still happy. Again, great video…enjoyed this one 👍

Spent over a 100 hours in a stretch like you last year to catch one barbel (12lb) and be snapped many times. But I started fishing the stretch around July August last year. But this year my aim is to walk the stretch every few days during close season to see where the fish hold and group up to spawn then pre bait a few areas for when the season opens it’s a very hard stretch due to being so high up the river. If you walk 2 miles up river you will catch trout after trout and The odd chub. Hopefully this year I will bag up
Chub and Barbel are really great In the Winter Chris. But You must go after that Big Girl You lost Dipping for Perch. Grab a load of Deadbaits. Soaked In Strawberry Oil, and then go get Her. Keep 'Em Coming.
You’re really giving fine quality production values here, so many differing camera angles. Your pieces to camera all look relaxed and natural. The drone shots really put the tin hat on it. Catching fish to order isn’t exactly my idea of fun, in my case if I tried it I’d surely blank…. anyway congratulations on your imaginative work, hope your viewership keeps growing!

Some nice fish there well done. Think about using a modern micro barbed hook, much less damage to the fishes mouth, as it won’t move around in the fishes mouth like a barbless hook. As highlighted around 11.50 in the video.

I used to fish the river Swale in North Yorkshire and I got some monster Barbel out of there on lunchen meat.
I must say Chris. That was some doorstop sandwich. A PB no doubt weighing in at least 2 pounds. 😂
